Enough people need to say "I'm out. Not paying for that!" for them to change what they are doing. I sent an email letting them know the prices where too high and that is why I will not be buying. The Mint expects you to pay THREE Times the cost metal content. Leave it to the US Mint to both waste money and also be a waste of money!
That is how the market is suppose to work. Buuuut, the market is now world wide, not domestic exclusively and many foreign collectors buy having zero issue with the price🤷🏻♂️
I can guarantee that all inventory in hand was bought when silver was down. They’re just upping prices now to take advantage of a small windfall window.
I have finally reached my breaking point with the U.S. Mint. Price increase on top of price increase, continued billing errors, difficult customer service, lack luster packaging with little to no protection for the product inside..... I have cancelled many subscriptions this year.... Looks like I'll be cancelling the rest. If the mint decides to actually release something that wows me, a purchase might be considered. The secondary market has more than fulfilled my needs as a collector. I have even been able to grab mint products for less than original sale price. They have not done much to retain my loyalty, and they will have to work hard to ever get it back.
When the Mint first started hiking up their prices I always thought that it might have had something to do with them seeing how much money people were getting from buying them, and then flipping those coins on ebay. I don't know their reason but if no one buys them, the gov. has the money to where they'll just sit on them until someone wants them. Thanks for the info, buddy. Have a good one.✌️
The price increases make sense, they just suck. Protest with your wallet Minimum wage, shipping, cost, taxes and silver’s price and global interest has increased. Profit margins must increase by the standard percentage. Similarly-One milkshake at McDonald’s is now as much as a Big Mac meal was 4 years ago. In some places, the Big Mac meal is as much as an ounce of silver was 4 years ago. High inflation is real and it shows up everywhere.
I have a collection of Morgan dollars sets of different dates years ago around maybe 2010 when I bought my first American Gold buffalo proof set. It's been years since I bought from the US Mint. I am glad I bought my Morgan dollars back then.😀🎉🎉
I was planning on getting both, the Morgan and the Peace Dollar. Theyre gonna find themselves sitting on all those coins with no buyers. They should know the golden rule, "a coin is only worth what someone is willing to pay". And we not paying. Guess I'll keep stacking bars.
Do you think people that in the past have purchased and resold immediately after making 3x listing price are at fault? I hate the high prices too but as basic business principles dictate an after market party has for years been taking the margins for flipping. Mint is adjusting because of that issue. In my opinion
Power in numbers. Let's make a stance if all of us stop buying from US mint then no demand and mint would be forced to lower price. I'm done buying from US mint now enough is enough
The two takeaways. The prices were ALREADY overinflated before this latest increase. And the price gouging will now lead to lower mintages when coins are left unsold and end up getting sent back for melt.
Anyone buying silver from the US Mint will be stuck with a loss and the investment will never pay a return for profit. These price gouging idiots are insane and I’m sure there will be people who buy these over priced items but that’s on them. There is nothing special about these coins and there is no high demand for them.
A few questions for you as I have followed you for many years and do enjoy your content. Do you think people that flip coins have profited in the past from mint offerings and also taken advantage of hobbyists? Have you ever flipped recent purchases from the mint for profit? I.e say you plan on buying 2 and keeping one and selling the other? Do you think people that buy direct from the mint and flip in less than a week for 2x or 3x or sometimes more profit are contributing to this? I would love to hear your thoughts on all of this. I ask you this not confrontationally but in hopes you address. I think in the past mint products were under valued and after market people took advantage of this and consumed the margin. I don’t like how much they are either but if you miss a sale and in order to obtain you look online and it’s already 3 times listing price can you in good objective conscious blame the mint? If a company like a Tesla was selling cars 3x below market value and people were snatching them up and selling them for exponentially more after would Tesla be the ones responsible for the increase of 3x to obtain that lost margin? Even if you disagree with me I would love to hear your opinion.
It’s crazy! I’ll cancel my subscription for the reverse proof Morgan and peace set. Probably will sell cheaper on eBay after they come out like the 2023’s did lol
What is ridiculous about it and I think this sums up really the whole price increase is back in 2020 I was thinking about collecting the presidential silver medals because they were $39.95 each the following week after I made the decision to start collecting them, they went from $39.95 to $65 each and I immediately changed my decision and did not purchase any of them.
Yeah Shawn, you know that the last couple of years have been extremely hard on me financially and the government is just raking people like me over the coals! I'm out!
Because if you are Morgan dollar collector or a Peace dollar collector, you have to remember these are not commemoratives. They are an actual continuation of the original series for both of those coins. They passed a law to do this. Personally, I am very happy that they’re not commemoratives. I do think the price hike is way too much, but what am I going to do? Stop collecting coins? That’s not gonna happen. I don’t buy a whole lot from the mint…at least I don’t think it’s a whole lot. Most of my coin money is going to vintage coins that I’m currently working toward complete sets of. Most of what I collect are vintage silver dollars, silver eagle proofs, vintage half dollars, and Washington quarters. I’m going to buy my coins. Sitting and complaining about the price increase it’s not going to change things. I will make my displeasure known, but I’m too old to bust a vein over it.
Shaun, I'm aiming more towards Libertad's, Maples, Germania, Britannia, & Silver Rounds to spend my money!!!🤑🤑 The Mints New prices they just emailed is just Crazy IMO!!! 👊
well start buying from Canada I think the mint is noticing people grading them turning around and flipping them for tremendous sums of money like the 2019 American silver eagle I lost out on that one I just wanted to add that one for my collection😞
Not to sound redundant but I cancelled my Morgan and Peace dollars, 2024. Out, out, out. I so agree that they may be tiring of making coins and are taking care of that.
I am considering getting sets from Royal Mail since the prices are high but the mintages are very low - well below 5,000 and if you get one every few years it is a beautiful coin set with strong long-term probably of developing a good premium (mainly the silver and gold sets though).
Either they know silver is about to double or they are trying to make up for fewer people ordering and trying to put it on the customer to make up the difference. Either way, they lost me as a customer. They are not going to stop until we all stop accepting it. My guess is there just being greedy.
words from the wise should be sufficient.Thank You Shawn your coin knowledge is wicked but you also do the roadwork and bring the facts for us,Outstanding work Sir🤝
The US mint is a business; and like all other businesses prices went up. Heard of the $18 BigMac meal in Connecticut. So living in a capitalist society, I chose not to participate in this price increase. You can collect many other coins aside from the products of the US Mint. Just like McDonalds, I chose to eat at my small local family run restaurants.
Sean almost never make comments on anything but I do have to admit I enjoy your videos they're informative and educational now to get to the silver increases at the mint The only thing they can I can think of as they expect silver to go up to $50 an ounce before the end of the year whether or not that happens is another story but if they believe it it just might happen I personally hope it does I don't want to go to 100 that's just still too large to jump but 50 by December I think it's realistic and is this price increase that justifies to them the increase in price me I'm not buying any of it take care Good luck good success good health May God be with you
Have they raised the price like this on all their silver issues or just these two particular coins? They can get away with it due to the iconic nature of the coins. Otherwise it's a bust. They'll sell them all with many going overseas to avid collectors who care nothing about the price💯🙏🕉️🇺🇸👈🏻MAGA
I wouldn't mind the jacking up of the price if the US Mint restricted mintages greatly as the Royal Mint does and improve the quality. Why not raise the price to $125 but offer them as 2 ounce piedfort Morgans and Peace dollars with a mintage limit of 1,000. But the Mint would rather take the route the Franklin Mint did which resulted them in having decline in sales as buyers realized how they were being horrendously gouged (more so than the US Mint). The only strategy is to wait and see what sales are and then just before they are removd from sale then you buy if the sales are very low or check the secondary market.
I honestly blame the flippers more than the mint. So many people have profited from buying and reselling for years and the mint understandably wanted some of that margin. People doing it for immediate financial gain and not the hobby are just as guilty if not more. How many times have people bought something and immediately made exponential profit reselling? How often have people said they are going to buy one and sell the other? It’s crappy.
TY, man. This is some BS, ain't it?! I just got into numismatics well into the Statehood Quarters program, and I've bought a few mint sets and rolls or bags of quarters since then. I started with the, not so great Presidential Dollars set and I've got graded silver dollars (all 69's )from 1986-2018, or whenever (both not from the mint). I'm kind of poor, I can't work, and I'm on a fixed income. It's like a punch in the gut for me. Damn!
Shaun greatly indicated the comparison of a silver eagle next week versus when silver was 25% higher in 2011 the silver eagles were much cheaper then! What they need to have a pricing grid with silver as they do gold, so they don't infuriate their customers.

I was subbed to all premium eagle and Morgan and peace products since 2021. I canceled every thing, even non silver subs. The mint can kiss my ass. This was simply to far. I can't support this
