This motorised slider has an incredible step resolution of 1.142 microns - put that another way 1000 microns = 1millimetre so you can see the scope of this slider for those high resolution shots requiring many images with very small steps between images.
Extremely well engineered to make these precise movements a reality and controlled by the MIOPS Mobile app which can be loaded onto either an IOS or Android smartphone/tablet.
Allowing full control of the slider allowing starting and ending points for total movement to be set, the distance travelled between each image captured, the exposure time and interval can be adjusted to suit the type of image being captured. This allows for setups using flash where flash recycle time may be needed to be considered. Other features of the app allow for basic video to be captured again being able to utilise the 30cms travel of the slider in either a single or double pass or continuous movement. The speed of the carriage can also be programmed with the option to change the acceleration and deceleration of the carriage.
The app supports timelapse, motion timelapse and ramping timelapse features.
With the addition of other capsules the slider+ can also use used for astro photography and multiple shot panoramas.

very nice device ! thanks . do you have any experience in putting the slider in vertical position as used in macrophotography in minerals ( micromounts). maybe the weight of lens and camera is too much for the motor… thanks 😊

Graham, the Miops looks a great piece of kit with the added usage factors, an excellent review and tutorial as usual. Could I ask, are you still using it or did you return it? I only ask to find out if there are any longer term issues after extended use?

Still using it. It has undergone a few firmware changes and also changes to the MIOPS app which have made it easier to set up the travel parameters etc.

Thanks for the detailed review. Does the miops slider have the ability to activate the shutter mechanism twice for each shot? - once to lock up mirror and the second to actually take the photo in a DSLR. How about the Wemacro? Thanks

If I were you I wouldn’t even consider this Miops rail. I’ve had the Wemacro rail for almost a year and absolutely love it. Not only is it FAR better built and much higher quality, it’s a great deal sturdier/more robust, the app is a great deal faster and easier to use than the Miops app and the rail itself is also cheaper than this one. In fact, I think I bought it for US$350 including postage! And to answer your question, yes, you can choose to fire the shutter as many times/step as you like. That’s how I use it with the mirror up mode on my D810 as it requires the shutter to be pressed once to raise the mirror and again to expose the frame. Anyway, get the WeMacro and I doubt you’ll regret it.

Looking at the MIOPS site it asks what camera you'll be using but quite a few of the choices have Focus Stacking built in so why would you need this rail system if Focus Stacking is already built in ? Also I'm curious how you could do star tracking with this as this is something that isn't a linear motion.
@GrahamHoughton12
@GrahamHoughton12 2 года назад
The star tracking requires an additional 360 degree pod which is used in conjunction with the linear slide to track the celestial object. I haven't seen this demonstrated anywhere so I can't see how it works. The camera with inbuilt post focus like a lot of the more recent Panasonic models are OK for general use but not for the very small slider movements needed for high magnification shots. Also a lot of macro lenses are manual focus only so any electronic method of focus shifting with cameras from Canon and Olympus cannot use that method.

Sometimes it is advantageous to use a lens that only offers manual focus.Which what is needed anyway for macro subjects. For instance the laowa 90mm f/2 8 2x ultra macro apo on a nikon can not utilize the built in stacking feature. Another example is the use of microscope lens for magnifications of 10x and greater. And these lens have fantastic image quality. So stacking tools are required for many applications.

where is a tutorial on the number of steps needed , how many MM to use , etc. Everyone glosses over this. So if I am taking an image of an insect, how many steps, what is the distance? or if I am taking a lego, how many steps, what is the distance, etc?
@aaronperelmuter8433
@aaronperelmuter8433 Год назад
At 18:28 you said that once you set the step size to 500 it gave you a camera movement of about 6mm per step. That is absolutely incorrect. As can be seen in the app, it clearly shows about 570 microns as the step distance and that is LESS THAN 1mm, it’s 0.57mm. A micron/micrometer is one millionth of a meter or one thousandth of a mm. I thought you would have known this. Also, your review was at times very annoying as you’re showing the app on screen but talking about the rail doing something. What’s the point if you’re not going to SHOW US what the rail is doing? Why do you keep the view on the app when you’re talking about hat the rail is doing? Very annoying. Also, when you’re explaining what’s happening on screen, don’t show us the flip out camera lcd! And especially when it’s upside down. Again, this is incredibly annoying as you can see it clearly and easily but many of us watch these vids on phones, etc and we can’t see a single bit of what you’re talking about. When you said you’re moving the rail to get one of the models in focus, I couldn’t see anything changing at all. Much better is to use the live view footage as it appears on your pc monitor and that way you can simply insert the video feed into your recording so that you can show us in FULL SCREEN whatever it is you’re talking about.
