As Kass explains in his final song to Link it was Zelda's love for Link that awakened her sealing power, not so much her desire to protect Hyrule. "The princess's love for her fallen knight awakens her power." With Link about to die, that was when her love for him was strongest. Anyways, love this new series!

Many said botw doesn't have a good story. I disagree. The story just isn't obvious at first and is scattered across the game making the players connect the pieces themselves. This way of presenting the story of a game is also used in Hollow Knight, a masterpiece itself too. And just like that game, botw was destined to have a huge amount of DLCs which in the end became the sequel.
@Flaris
@Flaris 4 года назад
I tend to agree. Going into playing this I heard a lot about how the story wasn't good. But I had a blast seeing the story be pieced together bit by bit, and uncovering things myself. If you don't care to dig then you won't discover anything. But if you really dig into it then you can find an excellent story.

Never thought giant robots would belong in a Zelda game, but in hindsight they fit into the lore surprisingly well. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to fight giant robots while riding on a motorcycle...in a Zelda game. Gosh, that still sounds like I'm joking.
@CharlesFerraro
@CharlesFerraro 5 лет назад
Well there were the Eyegores, Beamos, and Eye Beam in LttP... that's when I first started noticing robot-like things in a Zelda game. Then of course there are tons of robots in Skyward Sword. I do think Zelda is better off without robots but they've definitely been a part of the series lore for awhile. Not to mention, the game was conceived as the triforce being a computer or something... I don't remember or feel like looking it up.

The Power of the Goddess seems to come from hope and love. Every prior Zelda used it to protect their people out of hope and love. The same goes from Hylia, who loved the races of the planet so much she was willing to fight to the death to save them from Demise. BotW's Zelda was put in a position where everything was technical. No one truly cared about her struggle from an empathetic and emotional standpoint. Her own Father, even after reading his journal, only ever cares about her needing to live up to a role. All they fostered in her was despair, and that makes it hard to love the people around you. It was only during the final days of Hyrule's existence that she began to have the bonds necessary to feel love for her kingdom that showed her none. The friendship she built up with the Champions and the budding relationship she built up with Link unlocked the power, and in the moment the person she cared about most was about to die, it was unleashed as her emotions poured out. She went from despairing, to having hope, because she needed to have hope. Link HAD to live, she couldn't let him die there. So she didn't.
@lucasstrople4767
@lucasstrople4767 3 года назад
Everyone says love, which makes sense, but it’s really the Triforce: Power/Wisdom/Courage. Ocarina of Time goes into it more, the Triforce (Power of the Godess) is granted to chosen ones who have those three forces in balance.

I think that Snowpeak Ruins served as a fortress for the Royal family of Hyrule. It is hinted that an order of knights once guarded the fortress, and their emblem can be seen in Hyrule castle. It is likely that the Fortress was constructed by the Royal family as a sort of safe house during times of conflict. For example, the war that would seal Ganondorf into the Twilight Realm. This theory makes the most sense, Snowpeak ruins is isolated from the rest of Hyrule, hidden away within the barren tundra of Snowpeak. The Fort seems to be well defended, as there is only one way to it and the arsenal kept inside would have been used to bombard enemies from the cliffs. While the war between Hyrule and the Guerodo raged, the Royal family and maybe some key political and military figures would take refuge in this isolated Fortress. Safe from the grueling battles of the war.

@ThisCatIsBored

I'd say it's reasonable to assume there's so many monsters in the area because the Coliseum held some kind of monster-fight event. After the calamity, the Hylians all either died or fled the area, and the monsters were empowered by the malice and broke free, taking complete control of the building and making it a sort of settlement for them.

This is what i love about games like BOTW and Dark Souls. Their subtle way of expressing a story through showing instead of just telling what happened. It's top class world building by utilizing the games environment to show it's story. A much better method of story telling IMHO than a character simply rambling on through expository dialogue. I find people often overlook just how much story is told through Hyrule's environment which ultimately makes the world fell alive, and further beckons you to explore what else could be lying around the next corner. So often i hear people say that "BOTW has an underwhelming story", which in part is true as the character building could be better. Story wise however; there is a rich and interesting tale lying under almost ever nook and cranny. Unfortunately many people just don't take the time appreciate why things are laid out in such a way to make you contemplate what may have occurred in the past. BOTW gives you just enough information to grasp the key points through memories, and by showing you the end results 100 years later it allows your mind to fill in the blanks of what happened. Call me pretentious for looking at things in such a way, but regardless great video Zelink. Your video perfectly epitomizes how great this subtle method of story telling can actually be.

I'll think of that scene every time I pass Fort Hateno, now! (Same goes for the Akala episode!) Thanks for your hard work! I really look forward to more!!

Great editing, my dude. Sound effects and music on point. Script writing was great as well! Looking forward to more of this series. Breath of the Wild really doesn't give you much out front, so having something like this not only consolidate it all, but tell it in a more cinematic fashion is great! Hoping you cover some things from older games too, maybe some of Skyward Sword's story bits since the rumored HD is coming up? Either way, keep it up, man!

Really nice video. Although it seems to be an unpopular opinion, Breath of the Wild's story is actually my favourite story in the entire series and this video really does a good job of capturing why. But it's true that they could have shown more, and some of it requires a bit of reading between the lines. I think it's a fantastic story nonetheless, and I'm actually curious whether Nintendo would ever shift their focus more to the storytelling side in future because I think there's a lot of potential there.

You know, if each location in BOTW tells a story, from Fort Hateno, to the garrisons, what does each settlement, ruined home, and region tell? Does this apply to all the other games? Like in Minish Cap, the Fortress of Winds, or in the First Legend of Zelda, the various dungeons. Good idea for a video? Or a series? An in-depth story of each region and sub region in each game could be quite interesting, if you are willing to try it.

Man, you really brought story to life in a way few “game theory” videos do. And all you did was give a representation of events as Nintendo implied they happened. Well done! My favorite Zelda video you or anyone has done.

You know what would be badass?? I imagine a Netflix series of Zelda to serve as a prequel to the breath of the wild game..animated and acted similarly to the Castlevania series, so we’d be able to see what happened before the calamity and the champions and maybe see more character development than was in the game. I loved BoTW, but the story and lack of dungeons was the only thing I felt it lacked...maybe this animated series would offer insight to what happened.. Zeltik, I’m a huge fan of your videos! Keep up the great work! I imagine this battle your talking about as being like the season finale in like a 2 part episode! Would be awesome I think!

@Zeltik I think that the corrupted guardians did not come through the Dueling Peak Pass. Instead they entered through the pass north of the Marble Ridge. The evidence? 1) The ruined bridge over Lake Siela and ruins near it (it is the path of an attack from this path, but out of the way if they had come by Dueling Peak Pass), 2) The two confused guardians in/near the pass, 3) the lack of guardians in the Dueling Peak Pass. Even more, it is likely that Link and Zelda used the pass also as it explains why they had a moment near the Hylia River. That spot is the midway point to Kakariko Village on a straight line path from Kakariko Village and the Castle. What I think happened is Link planed to go up Sahsara Slope to the village, but for some unknown reason bypassed it. But your idea he had refugees with him is and that is why he did not go directly to the village is clearly not true. They were clearly not in his memory. And there are no settlement he could have run into on the way there. And if he as so close to the village, why almost quintuple the distance he had to go buy going by that pass? A quick swim and some simple climbs with Zelda on his back or having her climb too and he would be there. Far quicker and off the the main roads. If I had to hazard a guess. As Link was starting to climb the last cliff, it started to rain. He had to divert south (sliding down a cliff is far easier than climbing one), but by then the two had been spotted by the guardians and they had to take Marble pass. And once through the pass they saw refugees fleeing the fort for a last stand. Between hoping for 11th hour miracle in Kakariko village or fighting to buy their people time, they picked the later. And realizing they would not make the fort, Link picked a high point with marsh to make a last stand. The guardians swarmed out of the pass behind them and spread out across the plain. This would also explain why Zelda confronted the guardians there. If they had come out Marble Pass, the last stand and the fort are about equal distant from Lake Siela. A fanning out invasion looking for targets would hit the fort about the same time Zelda and Link were making their last stand and Zelda sealed them. But if they had come out of Twin Peaks Pass, the entire guardian attack would have had to hit Zelda and Zelda's sealing would happened before they reached the fort.
