In this video I show you just how awesome a micro-cut shredder is. I show what kind of materials you can put through a micro cut shredder and what the final product it.
Shredded paper and cardboard are the best free carbon sources in the world. Using them in your compost or vermicompost as bedding is amazing.
I am currently using my micro cut shredder to shred up newspaper cardboard and junk mail and put it into my backyard compost bin. I plan to use it in my worm bin once I build one.

I have been using the same Royal 1620mx crosscut shredder for over 6 years to process almost every piece of corrugated cardboard that our household of 4 has seen during that time. The shreds aren't micro, but my worms have never complained about it.

I love how glock makes its own bb guns and how they make them look so real ru-vid.comUgkxnX9wE_Q8zvF75Y5iWzTU3Q4FlrtyGApQ , the only thing is that the slide doesn't move back. The sights and the body structure is so similar to a real handgun, fits in my hand perfectly but I actually ordered it with the 40 pack of Co2 tanks and they never arrived even though it said that they handed It to me. Was not able to test the accuracy since I didn't get everything I purchased which is frustrating and that's the whole reason why I got the bundle so it arrives together. So the Co2 tank happens to be a third party so it makes no sense to put it in the bundle if it doesn't get shipped at the same time, the BB gun arrived first then the Co2 tanks were supposed to arrive someday later but didn't, which doesn't make sense. I recommend just ordering the gun itself so you don't get the same issue I ran into plus there's no option for a refund. How stupid.

Dude, this saved me so much time. It never occurred to me to try our shredder. We have an old 10 page Fellowes crosscut shredder that worked great, as long as I fed it 3-4" max strips. I reduced several boxes down to nice confetti for my nightcrawlers. Thanks!

Remember no glossy paper or photos. No glossy cardboard or cereal boxes and no labels or tape. I have a Royal Micro Cut 10sheet and it just loves Amazon boxes. (I do too!) My shredded stuff goes to the worm bin and the hot compost bins too.

@@Back2Organics i just did a short search and found GM soy and chlorine bleaches are a concern.
@SebastianFerenczy
@SebastianFerenczy Год назад
@@sbaxter4207 in most countries the use of chlorine gas for paper bleaching is prohibited. Instead, other chlorine compounds and other chemicals are used. They should not cause problems with toxic dioxins, which are otherwise a big problem with chlorine gas bleached paper. But of course, paper products often contain some small levels of environmental toxins. In particular, recycled fibers. The use of cardboard/paper in compost, cultivation and worm contexts seems to be so widespread and proven that I personally don't think it's anything to worry about.

Great video. My only issue with shredders is the pause time when they heat up. I'd be on a roll then the shredder would pause while the motor cooled down. Drove me mad lol. Great for very short periods of shredding but when I had several large cardboard boxes to shred the pause time was longer than the operating time lol. Now I just rip them by hand. Great video though and thanks for sharing as it's a great method for sure.

It would be nice to know how long one lasts using primarily for cardboard box shredding. All the available user manuals I found specifically list cardboard as something to not feed in. If there's a benefit that trumps voiding the warranty I guess there's no issue there.
@poosmate
@poosmate 7 лет назад
I wouldn't put too much paper/cardboard in the compost/worm bins because, as with anything, you get out what you put in. I saw a video where someone did an experiment feeding 2 bins (compost or worms), 1 with paper, 1 without. The produce from the paper fed bin looked great, till compared with the other, then it just looked like dirt compared to the rich dark compost from the non paper bin. Made a lot of sense, so I decided to use my scrap paper for briquettes instead.
@Back2Organics
@Back2Organics 7 лет назад
I don't put too much paper in I mainly just shred my sensitive documents and feed them to the worms (like to see an identity theif piece them together after that) But I also feed them yard clippings food scraps and leaves

This shredder looks awesome. I'm going to get one for shredding shipping boxes and cereal boxes for my compost. My other big source of paper waste, though, is Dixie paper plates and bowls. The Dixie website says they are compostable in 'commercial' facilities, presumably because high temp is needed to break down the non-shredded plates. But if I micro shred them first, I think my pile could probably handle it. If I wipe the food off first, do you think this shredder would work for wax coated paper plates?
@Back2Organics
@Back2Organics 5 лет назад
Oh yes this thing is a tank it will go through double thick cardboard so long as you keep the blades oiled. To oil them just spread some vegetable oil on a page of regular paper and shred then alternate the oiled side. And do it a few times and boom it's just like new!
@AtlantaTerry
@AtlantaTerry 4 года назад
Try this experiment: put some of those Dixie products into a compost pile and also half into your garden. Then see what time, weather and worms do.

Quick tip: You never want to put cardboard in your shredder. It doesn't matter what type of blade it is the shredder will dull faster and easier.
@Back2Organics
@Back2Organics 7 лет назад
Logan Wheeler this is true of any blade the thicker and tougher the material the more dull the blade becomes. I have kept the blades well lubricated but putting vegetable oil on sheets of paper and running them through my shredder. With that I have been able to run hundreds of boxes through my shredder without a single hickup.

I use a cheap blender I got at a yard sale for $3.00. You have to add some liquids to get it to blend well. Once I have my food scraps blended I add oatmeal, cornmeal, grass clippings, or whatever to soak up the excess moisture.

Most of the dye that they use now are soy based so they wont hurt the soil. However I always avoid the high gloss and the stuff that has metallic printing on it. These can contain stuff that in large quantities could harm your soil.

this machine has run like a champ I have shredded all of our moving boxes and more through this. hundreds of boxes. and the blades have never bent or clogged up. it is a little bit slow to tear all the boxes into bite size pieces but you quickly fill garbage bags full of the shreddings. I have never needed more then a small garbage bags or 2 so it has worked amazing for what I need it to.
