So interesting. I've been using a Mirena IUD since I was 36 and I just turned 57. My current one was inserted 2 years ago. I've had no period since I started using one. It's been a great decision for me. I just went for my yearly well female and my gynecologist said I should consider removing it and I said no. I dont understand that at all. It's doing no harm and I'm healthy. Isn’t it still protecting my uterus? I take an herbal supplement for hot flashes, which I rarely get since taking it. I feel like what I'm doing is working. I haven’t had any terrible menopause symptoms to speak of.
At the age of 57 you will most likely be post-menopause. As you are not using Estrogen replacement therapy the uterus doesn't need potecting, therefore the gynaecologist suggested removal. You are taking a herbal for hot flushes but this is not Estrogen and there are many reasons why replacing 'smaller' amouts of Estrogen is beneficial and important - then you will need the coil to protect your uterus - see my video called 'the future you without Estrogen' - studio.ru-vid.comLOrUJSQav8I/edit
I have one in but have been diagnosed with a couple of small fibroids and also possible Adenomyosis . I’m not sure whether or not to have mirena out or if it will help those 2 things. I’m 48 in October and wondering if it will mess up menopause if I keep it or if it will make it better less bleeding et. and pains. The period pains have got worse over the last couple of years and more bleeding. I had a new coil fitted in January and it hasn’t stopped my periods like it used to and pains still bad but they were not before when I used to have coil o would hardly notice i had one. Do you do personal consultations or help people ?
Sorry I didn't see your message - maybe too late now but I wouldn't recommend you removing the coil - chnage it for a new one - removing it will most likely cause heavier bleeds and a more challenging menopause
Thank u so much I’m on estrodial patches 3 months now abs Merina coil for progesterone in many ways I’m calm and no hot flushes at all sleep great yet I feel that’s the estrogen I also sense the merina is playing with me mentally as when a hard thing presents I get panic attacks cramping awful I can’t tolerate the progesterone pill at all so should I get hysterectomy I sense merina not ok for me either I’m 54 so maybe I just go off it all ?
Jamie - if you go off everything you may struggle as you will miss the estrogen. Hysterectomy is a soluton though doctors are reluctant to do this - especially as your uterus is 'healthy'. Not an easy one as you don't do well with progesterone / progestin
