lack of HP love craft monster and cosmic horror in this show is disheartening.

They should haved named this The Magical Mist, because this has nothing to do with Stephen King's The Mist.

The way I see it, it plays on your fears and past and mentality. Lila- afraid of the dark = gets killed by darkness Deputy step on cockroach = and then gets devoured by them Big mouthed lady = gets jaw ripped off

as I've said before , it attacks their fears not their sins , so that's why the kid got killed by the darkness which looked like a dark entity which was formed through the mist , it avoided the other girl cuz she said her dad taught her not to be afraid of the darkness

I'm I the only one here that: 1. This series could be decent if it wasn't based on a good book 2. That natures wrath, haunting sins and lies and humanities fault are just getting boring and overall lame now

When I saw the Demeantor kill Lila and not Alex. I saw it as Lila dying because she was scared of dying and leaving her mother. Alex had accepted her fate and was numb of emotion as seen in this and previous episodes. Once she wasn't killed and knew Lila had been she felt responsible which is why she lied.

The mist was about how pointless and insignificant humanity was. How there was no divine being judging people or how some greater power has a plan for the entire world and for every human. The entire point of the behemoth was to show that very concept. This show for some reason is trying to say some message about humans being evil and how people are being judged by some power. Fucking what

I have a theory that "Mister Misty" is what controls the mist because when it got in the mist was so thick you could barely see the book shelves and when he got closer it seemed like he could control how the mist works when it swirled around his face. Also we know he has a solid body but he can dissipate into the like he doesn't have one. That's just what I think though.

The whole angry nature thing is such a terrible idea, it didn't work with 2008's The Happening and it's definitely not working with this. All hope for any HP Lovecraftian aliens from a parallel dimension is lost

the "Mr. Misty" as he calls it or as I call it the "Fear Reaper" doesn't drain the life positive life force but rather feasts on the fear of it's victims that they have for it explaining why it didn't kill Alex but it killed the guy and the child as they made it quite clear that they feared the mist and the creatures in it where as Alex feared other things far more than the fear reaper I also propose that it appears differently to other individuals praying on their fears and the way we see it is how Alex see's it; for how it truly is.

I think Mister Misty is the dark. Referring to earlier in the episode when Lyla was telling Alex that she's afraid of the dark.

Everyone hates this show because they don't see a physical monster rip people apart like so many other movies have done. I honestly didn't know in the first two episodes. But now I'm enjoying it as we learn more about the Mist. I like how they're going about it with this sorta psychological aspect instead of the same old _"the monster outside is scary and will rip you in half because it's a mean monster."_ or whatever shit we've seen a billion times. I like this so far.

I think it feeds on fear. Alex did not fear death... with nature being the central theme as a judge, jury and executioner, it would make since that the fearful die in the mist at the hands of nightmares. kinda in the same way wild animals attack the fearful... Maybe in a pre-emptive response to assault?

i dont understand why the security always involves the 16 yr old jay kid with them, like bringing down the ppl who killed themselves or flying the drone etc, theres clearly better options for their work n hes a minor so realistically they wouldnt pick him but they legit involve him everytime prolly jst cuz hes a main character,

In the episode Lila also says she's afraid of the dark, wich is why they go in the book store in the first place. Couldn't the dark monster be a representation of Lilas fear of the dark. That would also explain why Alex isn't killed by the monster, she overcame her fear of the dark by reading the book with the owl who says what instead of who.

The creator of the show said all the clues to who the smoke figure is are in that episode, I'm pretty sure the girl says she's afraid of the dark early in the episode and that's what kills her but Alex says she isn't afraid anymore which is why she still alive. The Mist kills using your memories and fears.

The show def has some good ideas, the pacing is just so slow, but i think it worth it to see what comes next.

Weirdly enough, I have a theory that the monsters are actually not a manifestation of sin, but the manifestation of the characters fears. Lila said that she didn't like the dark beforehand, and as soon as the mist entered the bookstore, it analyzed only Lila's fear of the dark, and took the shape of a human-like darkness. Now, considering that, this, to me, makes a fair amount of sense due to the fact that in the next episode, Mike is scared of how he'll die because of his infection. After his brother makes an attempt to save him, a swarm of leeches fall from the ceiling, onto Mike, which then, in turn, ends his life. This is just a theory, however. Side note: I actually almost cried for Lila's parents, because they had to watch their daughter get killed right in front of them, and I felt horrible to say the least.

Here's my take on what is going on in The Mist: I believe that the mist doesn't take people's past mistakes or regrets to get back at people. It uses people's fears to. Evident by the girl in the show being afraid of the dark and then having her soul sucked out by a creature of darkness. (Also this TV show is quite dump in how it strays from the amazing novel)

I believe it kills you simply based on fears and not sins. The creature looked like a collection of darkness and Lila was afraid of the dark but Alex isn't which is why I believe that dark form didn't attack alex.

I somewhat agree with the sentiment that everyone else is having. While it is interesting to see the Mist have a more "psychological" affect, this wasn't what the original story was about. This whole series has some sort of religious "atone for your sins" feel, with the monsters being manifestations of people's misdeeds and such. The original was about a strange, unearthly, and near unstoppable force weighing itself down on the town, with the other characters trying to figure out what to do in the midst of a chaotic and hopeless situation. The ideas of people being "evil" weren't tied to getting karmic punishments and needing to seek religious guidance, but where the result of people panicking and degrading down to primal and medieval thoughts, which were, in fact, exacerbated BY someone using old world religion as a tool of control, rather than as a tool of guidance and betterment as the show seems to imply. So instead of being a proper exploration of humanity with both alien monsters AND Mist induced hallucinations to pose as existential threats, the show comes off as being just a giant "be good" PSA using death and religious/anti-religious themes just to be edgy TL;DR This show sucks, it needs more monsters, less moping and obvious moral pushing.

I was some what pleased to see something rather than bugs but, it's looking like they'll finish off season one with teases of monsters here and there and then in season two if they get a larger budget will probably have more monsters. That's just how it seems like its going to go, but I'll keep watching to see what they do with this series

Maybe I'm a pleb, but I like the series so far. If I wanted a re-hashing of the book, I'd read the book. It's cool to take the general concept and tweak it. Plus, the human drama is interesting, wouldn't be nearly as fun if it was all CGI monsters ripping people apart. Monsters are great, but so much of King's work is psychological.

Not sure if you've already done it but can you do a breakdown of the mist movie.

I think the Black Monster is nothing more than the mist transforming into what Lila feared the most - darkness, something she states earlier on in the episode. Facing the mist is like facing your worst fears. It knows you, so it transforms accordingly. Early on in the series Mia encounters what we can assume is her dead mother. There are hints that something happened between the two, something that Mia is scared to face, so it makes sense that she fears confronting her past in the shape of her mother. Same goes for the policeman in the Pilot: he is killed by cockroaches and earlier on we see him being scared of them. It goes beyond sin and beyond repentance: it's about fear and fear is nothing more than lack of control. Mankind tries to control nature, to control fear, but neither of them can be controlled. Everybody is scared of something, that's why the children are killed too. One possible explanation on why Alex is spared by the mist may be in one of the earlier episodes when Alex tells Eve she doesn’t feel anything. If you don’t feel anything, you aren’t scared of anything, so the mist can’t take her (at least not yet). Hopefully I’m wrong, but yeah - from the way I see it, there are no monsters in the mist, or at least not the ones we want to see. It’s the mist itself (or nature or whatever) that creates them by judging you on your deepest secrets and fears.

this series doesn't deserve the title of the "The Mist", instead it should be called "Humanity's Sin" or "Natures Wrath" or "The Mist :no monsters but definitely some spooky spooks going on around here"

I don't think that the mist operates on sins, I think it operates based on the fears of the people it encounters. My sister pointed this out when we were watching this episode, the pitch black swirl creature that the mist regurgitated came for the little girl, whose primary fear was the dark. It would make sense that a monster entirely composed of dark matter came after her and her only, even after staring down Alex, it decides it's not interested in her. She described earlier that she hardly could feel anything. The mist isn't interested in her because she has no tangible fears, the thing she's scared of most is already trapped in the mall with her. The Mist operates on a karmic and fear-based system.
