This is the consequence of "oh muh rights" crybabies. Problem is that the right to demonstrate is really important in US. Like even more importan that guns or oil. So there is a lot of laws that allows it. And at the same time if anyone tries to pass a law that would restrict rights to demonstrate, he is called fascist, comunist, liberal and/or dictator who wants to silence voice of the people. As consequence of this, laws in place allow even such miniscule group to block entire road due to their "rights". Police are doing exactly what you as a voter ensured that they have to do. If those cops touched them, there would be immidietaly a huge call about police brutality, police getting high on their power, corrupted cops etc. And tons of lawsuits that cops would probably lose. The next time you will vote, check their opinion on changing laws about demonstrations. Only after laws change can cops deal with nuisances like these.
