I think it’s worth noting that Washington actually was raised to General of the Armies. This happened 20 years after the end date of the mod, but it is something that did happen. The rank itself basically just means 6 star general, though I think it would have been funnier if they dug him up and put a funny hat on him.
@warlordofbritannia possibly, although I've never personally heard of them getting that honor. I wouldn't doubt it. Especially for Pershing since he's like the the father of the modern American Army.
Once again the U.S. government fails to consider the consequences of their actions smh; the first necromancer will be able to immediately assume full control of the US army (legally speaking).
I think raising Washington to General of the armies was an actual thing they gave him a rank posthumulously and decided noone can ever get the same rank so he was the highest rank officer in America for all time.
@@legendphil6232 In WW1, General Pershing was given the rank General of the Armies. This was done so that he would be of equal rank with allied Field Marshalls. After the war, people who care about that sort of thing realized that Washington was only General of the Army, means he was of lesser rank. Congress posthumously promoted Washington to General of the Armies with a higher precedence than Pershing. While the President can appoint, and Congress can approve, a General of the Armies it will never happen.
And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. -Jeremiah 29:13 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. -John 3:16 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out. -Acts 3:19 Please go to a PCA Presbyterian or OPC Presbyterian church, or maybe a Rpcna/Rpc Presbyterian church If you can’t find one of the conservative presby churches then, maybe a Lcms or Wels Lutheran church
The lag problem is impossible to change unless you rewrite the entire cod, which is why I really hope paradox takes their time with hoi5 and fix the late game lag
Kairserreich is what kept me coming back in the early days. It provided an alternative to the regular world war 2 narrative where if things went one way or the other it wasn’t in line with any established historical event, just seemed to open the game up more.
0:55 I would say Kaiserreich and Great War Redux mod, I always loved the alternate history mods because playing the same countries in practically the same timeline for dozens of hours get boring at some point
-Acts 3:19 Please go to a PCA Presbyterian or OPC Presbyterian church, or maybe a Rpcna/Rpc Presbyterian church If you can’t find one of the conservative presby churches then, maybe a Lcms or Wels Lutheran church.
One of the mods ive always loved is Equstria At War the ammount of lore in the mod and creativity in the writing is incredible also love Kaiserreich because Ireland was one of the first nations to get a focus tree and its enjoyable to play and explore all the paths as someone from Ireland those two and RT56 (because it always like the default mod everyone plays espically back in the day when many nations didnt have a focus tree and did add a lot to the game and a lot options on what you could do) were always 3 main mods Ive always jumped between
In a live stream, he said he might never play EaW for a RU-vid video. Mister Gravy Daddy doesn't want to offend a fandom he's not familiar with (or something around thos lines)
@@edmundthespiffing2920 Are there even that many Bronies who also play Hoi4? I've always been under the impression that most people just play EaW because it's a great mod and don't really care about MLP.
@87axal I don't think there is a way to tell. But, knowing how fandoms are with their overzealousness, I think he just wants to preserve the 0.000000001% sanity he has left.
What I really enjoy about these mods are the leaders that get chosen in the alternate histories, like Charles Edward of Albany. You can really tell that the modders are true history buffs!
I figured everyone knew who he was. I guess he's not talked about a lot, but he was part of the English/German royal family Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and sided with the German Empire when WWI broke out then sided with the Third Reich
4:55 George Washington is actually a 6 star General of the Armies IRL, he's forever the highest ranking person in the US military, he's the American Kim Il Sung.
As someone who did some localization for RT56, id recommend checking out France and looking at its missile tech, theres a little easter egg thats been there for years.
I really miss the original HOI4: Zombies mod. It was really fun playing major nations with friends and setting the spawn to random and then the game would be either desperately trying to hold a line or helping out the person doing so. When La Resistance just came out one of my friends figured out you could steal the 'virus' tech and create zombies of your own which led to shenanigans. The mod was also really broken, like zombies had 10000 base HP or org or something, so you had to build insane divisions to counter that.
@@simonnachreiner8380 yeah exactly, but building divisions for destroying strength instead of breaking frontlines was really interesting. I remember pre-NSB the way military high command and division bonuses worked, Canada could create some monstrous heavy SPGs which was a really effective countermeasure against zombies. Fun times.
For the Wooden Teeth bit (I'm sure this has already been answered but here I go) George Washington had dentures where the frame was wooden, but the actual teeth were stolen from slaves (most likely his but there is a non-zero chance he bought some as well).
4:19 That was an actual claim argued by the German-American Bund. Even the image there, with the giant banner of Washington, is from the actual 1939 rally held at Madison Square Garden, in NYC
My go to would be TNO only because it shows just how far you can really push the base game in terms of modding and also i enjoyed the writing for a lot of the nations
The problem with TNO is that it's boring AS FUCK, most of the nations with focus trees need to sit around doing nothing for ~30 years until omsk reunifies Russia and starts nuclear war
I hate when November is over because that means that Nostalgia November is over too and one day we wont have it anymore. God I hate how the years have flown by! How is it December already!
Memes aside, the US did in fact raise Washington to general of the armies. They also just gave it to Grant too so giving promotions to dead president/generals is starting to become a thing I guess.
This. It’s one of the few mods that really delves into the nation side of the game in a pretty unique way. Still kinda sad a lot of their content is getting gutted tho, the last update felt like a step back by removing Britain’s previous content and replacing it with content that isn’t as developed yet.
fun thing with the american civil war that you can do (if they haven't patched it): if you save up enough pp early on, you can actually get off of undisturbed isolation AND disarmed nation during the civil war super quickly. you just gotta save up a shitload of pp early on
My favorite more recent mod has been North America Divided, and it recently also got an updated giving a few more states and provinces expanded focus-trees!
Btw, a tip that helped me a lot when I had a potato laptop was using the command debug_smooth. It turns off frame smoothing, speeding up the game a lot (but at the cost of your frame rate). I always did everything when I was paused though, so it was fine for me.
@@ewenlau727 damnnn 😂, know how you feel. Used to have the same problem since I gamed on a $300 laptop, until I thankfully got a new job that paid me more, allowing me to buy a better computer. Best of the luck to your future financial success and HOI4 gaming experience
From the start in 2017 I've been looking at country specific flavour mods, and I immediately stumbled upon "Hungarian Flavour" which quickly became my favourite mod. Although the best path to take is obviously to form Austria Hungary, so it wouldn't feel very fresh to play, I just never get tired of it
Chaos mod and formible nations. Being able to make a world where nations are roughly equal in strength and can actually expand is my favorite. Sometimes you just get to watch a massive nation form and have to try to figure out how to beat them down but you never know who it will be.
Formable nations and road to 56 are staple mods of every run I do. In the middle of a run now as Latvia where I created the “Baltic Empire” as a formable, subjugated the Soviets, and created the “Global Alliance” to unite the world under one rule. Very fun!
General of the Armies is the highest possible rank in the US military. It’s only ever been achieved twice. Once was to John “Blackjack” Pershing during WW1, and then the title was given posthumously to George Washington in I wanna say the 90s.
something to note rt56 revamps xp. so theres more levels and soldiers can be released with better training depending how full the bar is. lvl 6 is normal training with extra training to level 7 post doployment.otherwise they can be released between lvl 1-5. EAW also uses this system aswell.
5:03 George Washington being posthumously promoted is an actual thing that happened, but I don’t know the year. He is always officially the highest ranking American Officer, which is why he is a Six Star General.
Hello, history man here. Washington being promoted to "General of the Armies" was a real thing done 1978. This is because the US didn't want anyone to be a higher rank then Washington as he was in charge of the nation's founding. Yet, in World War one, Pershing was promoted to 6-star general as a temporary position to coordinate US efforts in the war. several generals and admirals would occupy a similar position for the many fronts of WW2. In order to avoid the implication that these men would technically be higher in command than the man who (helped) win the Revolutionary war, he was promoted. it is largely meaningless beyond the scope of saving prestige.
Other mods i remember player led peace conferences, infection (zombies), iSorrowproductions mod, millennium dawn, big bite, ragnarok 1937, & Old World Blues
One of my favourite mods is The British Empire mod. They add new nations in the British Commonwealth and add updated focus trees to the majors dominions with special events. You can play as Hong Kong, Newfoundland, Egypt and many others.
I look back on millennium dawn rather fondly, it kinda ship of these theseus'd itself into becoming almost unrecognizable from the olden days. But it's the mod that got me to both buy hoi4 in the first place and subscribe to your channel.
American States Redux is fun, adds all the states without removing the rest of the world, and adds a ton of formable nation's, and a few custom focus trees
I remember being a little timmy, getting home at 17 from school and heading to bed to watch ISP and falling asleep by the end of the video, all the way back when the channel had the big push to get 100k subs, waking up at 6 PM and playing RT56 for 2 hours before going to do something else because I still hadn't reached 1938 on my slow ass PC. Good times. Highschool sucked but the videos were a pretty cool coping mechanism with the pressure.
Quick note about George Washington. Yes, he had wouldn't teeth, but that's when he was poor when he was a statesman. And a president he frequently used hippopotamus ivory as teeth
OWB Is by far my favorite because I'm a Fallout fan, but I also use Road to 56, admittedly though it DOES get extremely laggy and I rarely play long enough to use the namesake techs in the mod, because by 1945 my PC spits up coolant and starts to sound like a jet fighter.
8:28 In case you (or anyone else) want to do these focuses again in the future, I had a run similar to this in vanilla. I can't remember if it was Cuba in mine or Mexico, but I declared war on whichever it was who was a faction leader, then declared on everyone who refused me in South America as well as North. I was a bit worried about Brazil, but it was early enough that it didn't have enough factories to be considered a major. I only needed the one country to own both continents. Pretty much the same as you did, but it'll save you another war or two if you care about owning South America.
Ever play Old world blues? Definitely Our favorite Hoi4 mod of all time. Also try using the commands weather and debug_smooth in console, should speed things up a bit for you. Love your content! Hope you're well and taking it easy!
When I see a hoi4 vid, I base how soon I look for something else to watch on how fast I find out it has something to do with a mod. You gave it to me in the second word of the title.
Man, I remember being just a wee high school kid playing the shit outta R56 and Kaiserreich. To me, R56 kept HOI4 interesting between updates early on and Kaiserreich kept bringing me back
George Washington did have wooden teeth. In ye olde times before regular sugar consumption, most people would still only loose their teeth in old age even without modern dental hygiene but George started loosing his slightly earlier than normal. That’s why in most portraits he looks very stern because he had to strain to keep his mouth closed while posing or else his dentures would cause his mouth to hang open.
