crazy part about zizek interviews is that watching him speak in slovenian, he has none of the ticks that he has when talking in english-he doesnt sniff almost at all, doesnt pull on his shirt, still says insane shit
Regarding the Zizek clip, there's a famous sci fi bit (story/joke, idk) out there of this couple who have robotic clones that have sex on their behalf when they aren't feeling up to it, and then one time both partners find each other downstairs whilst their robotic clones are just going to town on one another, which they have a good laugh about.
The best frozen dinners are the vacuum-packed ones that cook with the steam so you don't have to poke holes, open a corner or stir halfway through. You just throw that in and cook for 5-6 minutes. Genius packaging technology, the greatest invention since semi-reflective crisping surfaces.
The microwave discourse has me genuinely worried about some people's ability to function. "Waah i'm tired so suddenly i don't know what 'Microwave for 2 minutes' means!"
Curious. I've never seen The Librarian and NL in the same room together. If he wasn't so lazy I'd think he's been playing us. Requires further reading. Curious
i just got into NL very recently and i just wanted to say that as somebody who isn’t on any social media i appreciate you adding the tweets and context for the stuff he talks about because it really heightens an already enjoyable experience
Same here, second this! I been on YT forever, could never hop in the streaming wave, but been binging NL content all week. The editing, the clips selected, even the thumbnails; all elite. These vids revived what felt like a dead site for finding new content and creators. Big ups Librarian
I know xqc is famously bad with words, but I felt like he at least used to understand more things than he does now, the amount of streaming has truly rot his brain.
It's SO funny, like he has three completely separate concepts melded together in his head. He thinks the big bang is the meteor hitting and creating the continents?????
The best thing about that clip is that xQc is actually like 93% accurate except for the meteor thing. The buttered bread analogy is a pretty good counter to the question.
It’s incredible that in the xqc clip, he somehow seems like the smarter person in the room despite also being really fucking stupid. Like the buttered bread part he kinda cooked.
Fake modern day Socrates: "yo bro you know like pangrea right? Like the big bang and stuff?" Actual modern day Socrates: "my perfect date is when the girl has an auto-dildo to fuck her and i have an auto-fleshlight to suck me off"
i dont necesarrily think zizek is a genius or anything but he is endlessly entertaining and makes me think about things in a different way so i like reading/listening to what he has to say, even if i disagree.
and that unironically makes him a good philosopher, or at least better than the self-important rich kids who majored in it and try telling the rest of us how to live correctly when theyve never had a real job
He is right about sex being first and foremost a way to feed the ego for a lot of people. In the end we seek validation and we see intercourse as one of it's most sincere forms.
bro the BwO is a deleuzian concept and zizek is famously a lacanian you hates deleuze and guattari. bro your lack of knowledge of 20th century psychoanalysis is showing
Librarian I just want to say I don't have the time to watch streams, and honestly I don't even use twitch. But I watch a good 3 or 4 of your clips a week and I really appreciate all of your work. Thanks lad.
The thing that's get me is their defensiveness. They want to act like other people are being privileged by suggesting that they do anything other than order doordash for every meal, but like the point is that doing that is so expensive??? I'm someone who has been depressed and ordered ubereats or skip at least once every single day for like a month. I always come out of it like I have to cut that shit out because it's not financially sustainable
@@PinkCatsy Honestly seems like they have severe mental issues. Like severely on the spectrum, depression, anxiety, etc. But maybe they've just created these little cocoons of similar people surrounding them, so they don't realize how abnormal it is to be ordering food every single day or meal.
I understand the miscommunication in the xqc clip. The guy asks him if he believes in the Big Bang or Pangea (which he calls Pangrea). xQc interprets this as a "you can only pick one" type question and gets confused. So when the other guy badly explains Pangea as "it was all one thing, and then it split apart", xQc asks "the whole world (meaning the universe) or our planet". Because "it was all one, and then it split apart" when applied to the universe is like a simplified version of Big Bang theory, but when applied to our planet it's a simplified explanation of Pangea.
But he literally asks him "which one do you believe in" xQc seems to know what both of them are though, except the meteor thing but that's understandable
Basically, his point was to critique the perception of racist jokes in public but went a bit too Zizek with it. I won't tell you you shouldn't have an issue with it but he's obviously making a critique of how racist jokes are used in public by going with an exaggeration. For Zizek, who isn't afraid to offend, to first put it in a hypothetical of a hypothetical, it's very clear he isn't racially abusing anyone, he doesn't take its use lightly, and isn't just saying it to say it.
I work at a small brewery in vancouver and can confirm every name is just meant to make people over the age of 30-40 go "thats kinda funny", half of them are just bad puns lmao.
can't stop laughing at that r/adultery post where the guy claims his wife was a bigger liar for knowing about his cheating for months and saying nothing before she left, than he was for actually doing the cheating
8:32 the bridge is insured though 😂😂😂. Somebody has still got to pay for a new one. Also the cost of the bridge isn’t the only cost. The Baltimore port is closed right now. That is also really expensive.
I still can't get over the DoorDash vs frozen food discourse, but maybe it's fueled by the fact that I can't tell where the line blurs between actual discourse (if there even can be such a thing lol) and trolling/memeing. There's no shot that someone under the weight of depression/anxiety/etc. thinks it's easier to figure out which business they want food from and which delivery service to use, go through all the menus selecting their order, decide a tip (and in general, swallow the financial cost of the delivery), wait there in suspension while their order can be delivered anywhere within an uncertain 60 minute window, and meet the person at their door (this part alone, the awkward social interaction, makes it unfathomable that people find this easier). Compared to: grab food item from freezer, open box, put in microwave, know exactly when it'll be done, eat, back to bed cocoon. I honestly wonder how much the single piece of silverware that the frozen food uses is playing into that idea of it being more effort (dishes, for some reason, become a herculean task when depressed). If so, and I hate to say it, but just buy plastic utensils - they're cheap as hell.
Librarian the crazy thing is that I don’t think that’s the correct Zizek clip, bc the one I saw that was quoting the tweet was him talking about meeting two black fans. That being said both clips are so insane it didn’t matter which one you’d post 😂
I think the woman who healed her liver by positive thinking also comes from an insanely privileged background. Think trustfund baby. So maybe having access to good nutrition and medical care throughout childhood/youth has prepared her body to fight off such an infection on its own better than someone who's been born into poverty
The Zizek interview is so easy to explain. He would find ideal more nonsexual intimacy, so he'd wish there was a way to get past the sexual part to the actual fun part to him, which is getting to know a woman. Its a somewhat groteque metaphor, but he uses striking imagery to get his point across cuz he works under the assumption that the people listening to him can read between the lines, an assumption which is clearly wrong
I think Zizek is also making a point that (worrying about) sexual performance and the superego are negatives to the overall romantic and sexual experiance so getting that out of the way through his metaphor would make the eventual intercourse deeper and more intimate.
I agree. Obviously Zizek is a bit of a weird guy and he isn't really conveying his point well, but what he means is pretty clever and makes some sense. The sex toys represent the very primal and sensory aspects of sex, as they are what people use for self pleasure, so if a couple can let the sex toys take over that work, they can focus on the emotional and romantic aspects. At least, that's what I'm getting from it.
As a devils advocate I gotta say he's being too harsh on the doordashers. The histamine stuff? Mostly false. It's not nearly as common as they claim and ordering out offers far less control than making your own meals, but it IS true that microwaved meals contain a good amount of that stuff and are therefore not an option for those who have an intolerance and want a meal without cooking. The "some people have depression and anxiety" is also ridiculous when the task of microwaving the meal is framed as an insurmountable task that must be communally organized (though I am completely sure that some poor souls find even that an impossible effort, and they should not be further belittled for that). However, it makes more sense when you consider the nature of grocery shopping. To us? A place of vast wealth and serenity. To a person of terror? A trudge of social interaction and bright lights. A million judging eyes. [addendum due to the added representation of physical disability in the discussion:] some motherfuckers do not have hands. And yet they must live. And yet they must search on, as we all must, for yummy treats. Someone's lack of dexterity making microwave meals more difficult is not a wholly invalid concern. Honestly, this whole thing reeks of not understanding what disability is? Their abilities are lesser and therefore things that would be trivial for you are not trivial for them. That's the whole point dammnit! "bro, I get you're wheelchair bound but could you not like stand up? Shit's so easy." The cost/environmentalism? This one is tricky. However, I shall resort to the most barbarous method of investigation yet conceived: common sense. Is it really less efficient for one guy to deliver meals to 30 people in his car rather than have 30 people drive to the restaurant and and each get their meals? Have you never ridden on a school bus? While the cost is still almost certainly more than if you had cooked the food yourself, it's not inconceivable to me that someone with a large gas-guzzling truck would get a cheaper deal from doordash. Anyways.... what is the shame in a little treat? NL is enraged by urinal fans saying they're more efficient, saying that "north america has a problem where we can't have nice things"[not direct quote]. How is this any different? It seems a clear double standard. I've had this reaction a couple times now when I hear something he says and... it's fun! It somehow feels good to hear someone say something with absolute confidence, present the other side in the worst possible light and then.... actually investigate the issue. Make my own inferences. Oppose the common sentiment! Or at the very least, add a bit of context. [reposted from "The Doordash Discourse", with addendum]
Me watching the Zizek clip like "does he know you like dont have to have sex on a date" Its like when you see a post from a trans person who doesn't know it Watching Zizek like "my perfect date is where there isnt a social expectation to have sex i hate sex id much rather talk about movies" Im like bruh is this man asexual but hes so in the weeds about "identity politics" that he hasn't even considered his own sexuality
20:40 honestly i genuinely believe your posture is only bad if a doctor can notice it and tells you its a problem im pretty sure by all means people would think ive got some horrible shrimp posture from appearance, but i have literally talked to a doctor about my back problem and all i have is nonintrusive minor scoliosis that wont affect my life, so thats just more proof your posture isnt as big a deal people say it is
