Yet another one of Gaijin's infamous crafting events is ongoing, and that means there's probably a gimmicky top tier tank that's going to be ruining the matchmaker for a while. The top reward for the Battle for Arachis event is the T-72M2 Moderna, a Slovakian retrofit of the ubiquitous Soviet T-72 main battle tank. I think another top tier MBT is the last thing the Russian tech tree needed, but Gaijin will be Gaijin. The Moderna sports a fair number of new bells and whistles, but how does it actually play?

Ukraine and other events took away attention from something that, while still dangerous, is not novel enough to demand the public’s attention on late night news and get them to panic. Fun fact: it should have a also different gunner optics. It should have a same optics as a Leceerch (4x-12x or 14x) but Gaijin for some reason decided to give it the Russian standard T-72 optics (8x)

@@profpanky5664 I don't think it's exactly the same one as the Leclerc, but similar. Everything I can find seems to point to it being a SFIM MVS 580 (which I believe is French and can also be found on the Challenger 2E). From everything that I could dig up, it seems the TPD-K1 sight (8x zoom with 9 degrees FOV) was kept and updated while the secondary night sight (the TPN-1 which sits to the rear left of the TPD-K1) was replaced with a thermal imaging sight, though I can find very little about the specifics of said thermal imager itself. I did find a few that mentioned there were plans to use the Sagem SAVAN 15T gunners sight which is a variant of the Leclercs gunners sight, but it seems that it was never adopted for the M2 Moderna.

From what I understand the TAPNA is a really light round for 120/125mm (3.4kg compared to DM53 5kg, while 105mm M900 is 3.7kg) and War Thunder models a lot of post-pen damage on shell weight, so with it being so light it has good penetration but the spalling similar to that of a 105mm round.

That is actually historically incorrect. The TAPNA APSFDS projectile weights 7.15 KG and should be able to penetrate at least 550mm of RHA over the distance of 2000 meters with muzzle velocity of 1690ms according to multiple official sources.

Honestly this video was quite boring in terms of commentary, so I will disagree. In terms of gameplay, it was still well-cut. Though, I will make an exception since he was trying to be quiet. I'd prefer to see his scripted content.

The purpose of the video was to showcase the experience one may have with said AFV and was demonstrated to even someone like me whose never played WarThunder, Just a fan of watching someone good do their thing.

Pretty much all War Thunder maps are bad. The game has some of the most consistently bad maps of any multiplayer game I've ever played, the team involved should be ashamed and or fired. The spawn camping could easily be fixed by adding a no fire protection zone, but as long as people keep buying over priced vehicles and premiums then Gaijin has no reason to actually fix anything.

@@soji4601 i disagree, planes need some skill to do well consistenly, i almost never miss a bomb but i remember when i was starting back in the day, i almost never hit anyone, that being said AA do exist and they get better and better with the aircrafts they face, also they cost a lot of spawn points, you sounds like (correct me if i'm wrong) someone that doesn't really plays with aircrafts and just sees the good

This thing, as of now, is really the end-all be-all for the T-72 MBT. It’s got so much modern tech crammed into such an old frame, the fact that it plays as well as it does is incredible. Right now on Marketplace these things cost like $70. If they go below 40 like most event top rewards do I’m definitely getting one

Craft event rewards never sold that low. That is a common price for star event vehicles when they are tradeable since a few months.

@@loganwalker8537 No but it is old - just look at the price development of the strategist event frigate - increased by 4 times because it was launched 2020. Star event top rewards usually launch between 25 and 30 GJN and craft between 55 and 75 GJN. After a few years or when the match making or vehicle itself got buffed the prices rise. Just look at the Merkavas. 3D was sold for 65 GJN when a lot of them cane to market, now it is 150 GJN. Just usual economics.

I’d say it’s worth it if it drops to $50 or low. Outside of that just get the TURMS. You get GE, Premium time, and premium grinding bonuses.

1. Tapna is light, 3.4kg from 125mm cannon is some 105 performance. It helps that its fast. 2. NVD is just night in green. It improves if you play ULQ, and I think it has not been changed since old, old, old renderer.

I’ve had this tank for a litle bit now but I have learned that the auto cannon is mostly used for killing tanks from the side and it’s only used to snipe barrels if it’s needed but that is just for me

2:20 that's why I like the "tank commander sights" on some tanks such as the m60. If I'm not mistaken they have more zoom then the regular gun sight and it can go into an extremely wide fov 1 times mode and sometimes they're on their own little mount so u can shoot the machine gun from them witch is really helpful to trick things out into the open that u can kill with a 50. Cal. Because they dont look at ur commanders sight they look at ur main gun

one thing ive noticed from using this thing is its pretty good for hill peaking, of course the gun depression kinda hurts it a bit, but ive found spots on quite a few maps where I can make it work. The commander having such a high sight with thermals and a better zoom then the gunner makes it great for spotting targets. And with all the IFVs running around the 30mm does come in handy even without a top ap round.

For the record, You can ping on the minimap to tell Your teammates where the enemy is. Through, that relies on the teammates having the brain capacity to understand. Furthermore, even when the chat existed - I never once saw a teammate follow instructions or use it at all.

It's a really cool tank imo, the 30mm is definitely useful even against other MBTs but mostly from the sides and the TAPNA round is really powerful for 10.0!

The damage model for the tapna round may be flawed/ bugged, but either way the lower pen apfsdssdssds will have more spalling vs thiner armor. Also you can use the 30mm gunsight to aim better, and it is high enough you can shoot it behind cover.

The armor on the turret actually chews rounds so if you can hide your hull you can survive some shots to the turret.

The moderna irl is actually a really useful idea, the thing about tanks is that a lot of the time they don't fight other tanks, and since the T-72 doesn't have room for a CROW system without extensive modifications and a lot of money it's rather genius, being able to defend itself from infantry in high up buildings effectively, take out cars and LAVs without wasting a shell or the commander popping his head out to use the HMG

it may just be me but i used to play russia alot and well top tier usually consists of either getting clubbed or capping all the points then realizing your entire teams dead and your one of the last ones and the entire enemy team has like 10 respawns

That will be the area dimming on your screen causing the pixels. You are likely seeing the lighting zones. That's not a feature I would leave on tbh. Either go whole hog OLED or accept a constant backlight brightness.

TAPNA is currently using the steel rod modifiers meaning it spalls like BM22, that is to say, it doesn't.

Since you mentioned up tiers and down tiers, this is a good time for my usual statement: Even though Gaijin thinks it will increase the time spent waiting for battles, the up/down tier system should be revamped from plus/minus one whole BR to instead being plus/minus a single decimal shift to keep fights on more equal footing. For example, a BR 3.3 lineup can only face opponents up to a BR 3.7 lineup, down to a BR 3.0 lineup or stay equal and fight a BR 3.3 lineup.
