Good video, but I have to say that Real Madrid was NOT Franco's team. It was Atlético Aviación (a combination between Atlético Madrid and the football team of the nationalist Air Force at the time). In fact, Real Madrid was a republican-leaning team during the Civil War, with one club president who was also a republican commander (Antonio Ortega) being killed by Franco's army and many of our players at the time fleeing. After the war, we almost went bankrupt, hence why we didn't win a single league title in 10+ years after it ended. After the team rebuilt thanks to the genius of Santiago Bernabéu, who was able to build a new stadium after issuing bonds that the working class of Madrid bought en masse (unlike our national rivals who built the Camp Nou thanks to Franco's grants), we were able to emerge once again as the most dominant team in Europe. Franco saw this, and used us to spread his propaganda, as at the time Spain was shunned by the rest of the continent. I could go on, but the point is that this lie has been going on for far too long and would have appreciated some bit of research beforehand. Cheers.

Thogden you got some facts wrong about Real Madrid, Franco used the club because it's victories to get a good image abroad and home, but in fact the clubs that he supported with real help were Atlético de Madrid and Barcelona. For instance, Franco ordered, when Barcelona was broke twice, to not to ask them to pay back it's huge debt by his direct command, and thanking that, Barcelona gave it's diamond badge to Franco TWICE, something that Real Madrid never did despite Franco craving for it. Then why you can hear the history that you were spreading? Because being the other way around. It was shameful to Barca fans to recall this fact while at the same time selling an image of going rogue against the opresor dictator Franco, which btw had the strongest opposition during the Civil War at Madrid like in no other place, and the city was sized and shelled like no other place during many years and the city was the only one place who kept fighting the whole war, in fact the war lasted as long as Madrid was able to hold, not Barcelona, Madrid, and Franco hated Madrid because of this like no other place. Talking about the political implications nowadays, Catalonian politics have been used Barcelona FC to make independent claims, and forgetting some facts about the past because they needed to create a narrative that doesn't always fit with reality. Mixing changing history, twisting it, and using football to get to people easily, just like Franco did. In response to that some other people (boosted by some other politics on the political right spectrum, use that back in they advantage). And many start to see Real Madrid as the opposite by comparation, to see Real Madrid as the team that wants a united country with no political separatist tensions. A fact that it is funny to see because Real Madrid as a club has not a political biased vision on the contrary of Barcelona. Was Franco a bastard fascist dictator that oppressed the country? Yes of course he was, that happened just in Catalonia? Of course not. Does it mean that Real Madrid fans are sided with the political right(our tories or UKIP like parties)? Of course not, but those politicians would love that to happen just like Barcelona fans are not all of them sided with independentist claims but independentist politicians use that illusion, and the club is very happy with that, to manipulate people's will to spread independentist thoughts as much as they can. Barcelona even gets money from the Catalonian actual government because of this, as it is managed by independentist parties.

Lol, the history of Franco and so on is the exact opposite! Real Madrid was demolished after the civil war and Franco saved Barcelona from bankruptcy. Barcelona gave Franco several decorations and medals. Real Madrid did not want to know anything about Franco and how Madrid revived after the war is an admirable story you need to learn about. As an Spanish, let me clear out the info you have said on min 2:35 . You should have included that Franco saved Barcelona from bankruptcy 55 years ago (even FC Barcelona gave him a golden medal as a recognition) Cataluña was as as any other region of Spain, in fact, these "extra" oppressed regions as País Vasco received way more money from Franco's government as an strategy to keep them closer to the dictatorship. Even nowadays this strategy is taken by our governments with the same objective, which means that a citizen of Cataluña recieves 297,45 euros whilst a citizen of Madrid receives 193,35 euros and a citizen from my region, Alicante (I'm sure you brits have heard Benidorm) we recieve 85 euros. You did a nice job by hearing the history, but here in Spain, sadly, you will always hear an alternated version of the history.
