His voice is just as good now as it was back then and he's in his 70s now. Justin (the lead singer) wrote Nights in White Satin when he was 19 years old after a breakup with a girlfriend who had given him a set of white satin bed sheets. The song was released in 1967. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

The first album I ever bought back in the 1960's was the first of several Moody Blues albums that I bought and love. I still remember the warmth of the sun as I walked out of the store, I loved how they could write for, and integrate the full orchestra as well as rock and roll instruments. Back then this was not usual. Even the Beatles, whose sound engineer would mix orchestra into their music weren't actually writing with the intent of integrating a full orchestra like the Moodies did. Back then there were plenty of people who said the Moodies were pretentious for aspiring to use such a wide range of instruments. I think it is sheer brilliance.

I grew up listening to this group & they are one of my favorites from the 60's-80's. They have had so many hit songs. Love their mix of rock with classical music. They have a sound like no other band. "Nights In White Satin" is their most famous song but they have so many other great songs such as "Go Now", "Tuesday Afternoon", "The Story In Your Eyes", "Question", "Ride My See-Saw", "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice", "Your Wildest Dreams". But all of their music is great. Many of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to all at once. Sadly their drummer Graeme Edge just passed away last year.

Dagmar, We completely agree with your comments. As 74 yr old senior citizens from southeast Arizona, USA, we remember fondly dancing to this song at school dances. We owned every one of their albums (vinyl) through 1982. For melodic, soothing musical compositions there was no band better than the Moodys. Great reaction by both of you. Love how you show genuine appreciation for this performance. Our second favorite song by the band is "Tuesday Afternoon", and we'd love to see your reaction it in this live performance. Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_kyvBFD2WQA.html Stay safe and happy.

This one is a classic, and this live version is special. OK, here's my story: Freshman year of college, fall of 1973, and my roommate always wanted to fall asleep to side 2 of their 'Days of Future Past' album. Of course, he fell asleep after the first song and there I was, staring at the ceiling, until the spoken word part after 'Nights in White Satin' concluded. So, to say I know every note is an understatement! Thanks for this one and the memories it triggered.

This group is wonderful.... Nights in White Satin was super big for the Moody Blues in the states. Justin, the guitar man and lead singer wrote this when he was 19 years old. I saw them in concert back in the mid 1980's. It was SO good! Like listening to an album or CD. The addition of the full orchestra makes this classic magical.... The last section is so powerful it makes some cry. The orchestra builds it up and up...!!!!! Wait a tad, and you two will hear & see what L'm talking about. One of the many things I like and enjoy about these older bands is how calm and smooth they are. No flash, just pure talent. This is the start of the section I referred to earlier. Lady I watched until the end. You do NOT need to say sorry. Feelings and memories are two of the ways we know we are still alive. Toy two take care & stay safe!!!!!!!! Bye for now.

Most consder this performance to be a Masterpiece. I bought there first album on LP when it first came out. And every one since. Saw them live at Indianapolis, not sure of the year now, but can look it up. Just almost as good then though a rain and windstorm at this outdoor theater messed with us and we all had to take cover for a bit. They came back of and did a great job. Then about 25 years ago, I converted all my CDs (bought them too) to MP3, and they are on my phone, PC, in my car, etc. I never get over this great music. Also a fan of Dire Straits (Mark Knopfler), Santana, and more. Also, I think Justin wrote this song when he was like, 19 or so. A forever song.

Have always been a fan of the Moody Blues - their lyrics and music together with Justin Hayward's voice are superlative. Have seen them many times in concert they are just as good live as on their recordings. RIP Ray Thomas (flute) and Graeme Edge (drummer) you are sorely missed.
@dianemiller3040
@dianemiller3040 4 дня назад
They likely skipped the orchestral arrangement in their regular concerts, but there is full orchestral accompaniment on their albums. And I believe Ray Thomas and the Moody Blues were the first rock group to regularly feature a flute in their music. And of course Ian Anderson and Jetjhro Tull is the only group that brought the flute out front and center.
