Introducing Mark Reader as Jim McCartney/Uncle Stan/Musical Director in 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐎𝐆𝐒.
Mark Reader is a Musician, Actor, Presenter, Musical Director and Music Producer from Liverpool, and is currently fronting top Liverpool rock band ‘Strider’. He recently played the part of Klaus Shultz, an intimidating
Gestapo officer in the play ‘ Fighting For Life ’ by Karen Rachel Kennedy, in which he is speaking in a strong German accent, and also performing some of the songs. He has already been rebooked to revise the same character for part two of the play later this year.
He has not long arrived back from the Camden Fringe Festival in London, where he was Musical Director, Guitarist, Actor, and part of the production team for the play ‘This Girl - The Cynthia Lennon Story’ by Mike Howl. He and Frankie Connor from BBC Radio Merseyside, produced the music for the show, which has recently received four star reviews.
Mark played the part of Jim McCartney in not only ‘This Girl - The Cynthia Lennon Story’, but also in the musical play ‘The Moondogs’ by Ashley Ali, at the Epstein Theatre. This year, the show ‘The Moondogs’, will be staged at The Gladstone Theatre in Port Sunlight, with Mark not only taking on the roll of Musical Director and Jim McCartney, but also playing a new character called Uncle Stan.
Mark started his career, playing in bands from the age of 13, and toured extensively around the UK and Europe. In his early twenty’s, he stared working in television, and with the help of his fellow band mate Con O’Neil, he got the acting bug, and started working in TV and films. After many smaller rolls, including the BBC comedy series ‘Bread’, and the film ‘Business as Usual’, he passed an audition at the BBC for a main character called Arnold in a TV series called the Antics Roadshow. This lead to him becoming a Presenter and Session Musician on a BBC show called Bodytalk. Eventually, Mark became Musical Director on the series ‘Bitsa’, and can be heard singing and playing the theme tune, as well as writing the incidental music for the show, this also lead to an appearance in the BBC Broom-cupboard with Toby Anstis. He went on to write many pieces of music for the BBC, and opened up Tonewood Recording Studios in Liverpool, producing music and albums for local bands and songwriters, including Klezmer-ish from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, who’s album ‘Dusty Road’ has been distributed world wide, and received an excellent write up in the Times, praising Mark for the excellent sound quality of the album.
As a session musician, he has played guitar with: P.J Proby and Twopence to Cross the Mersey at the Liverpool Empire Theatre, worked with Alec Dankworth, Bill Le Sage, Dave Benson-Phillips, Derek Griffiths at the BBC. Has worked with members of The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Billy Kinsley (Liverpool Express, Merseybeats), Jackie Lomax and Brian Jones (The Undertakers) as well as numerous other musicians, too many to mention.
