@@SkyCloudSilence Well they did approve of the overall quality comparatively to what other productions did. And that's what matters in my opinion, making the act more realistic so we are not pulled away from the movie by wacky imitations. There will always be *something* off because it's an act, but if you need to pause to catch it, then they're doing a good job.

Please allow me a comment that doesn't directly have something to do with this particular video: As a retired musician (first trumpet player, then bass trombone player, mostly in orchestras) I REALLY appreciated your professional comments about violin playing, and music making. It shows you have a great love and appreciation of the art as well as an understanding about how it's done. And of course your quick demonstrations show, you have the expertise to back up your talk. Plus your humor is golden. Keep up the great work!

Let's put it this way: No actor or actress will be able to learn an instrument in that short amount of time that you get before or while filming. So you should get as close as possible, but they will never be able to look legit. Either the producers have to get real musicians who can act or they'll have to get doubles for the playing part ...

@TheAskald

@@nattuesday994 I still think it would be really hard to fake that with special effects. Because the movie industry has very little experience with that (compared to explosions, monsters, etc). When the conductor sucks and the orchestra can't stay with me as a soloist, I pretty much stare down the conductor the whole concert and rock back and forth in rhythm hoping to hell someone will figure out the right beat. I had one concert where the dress was nearly perfect and the concert was a disaster because the conductor lost control of the orchestra. With a good conductor, the occasional glance, usually during tempo changes, is all you need.

The thing is, they don't go to more trouble when making music movies because nobody cares. Apaert from two guys on RU-vid, none of us would have watched that film and noticed any guffaw-producing errors, be honest. Three fine-tuners! Good God, sir! Music starting before the downbeat? Take that man out and flog 'im! Film directors don't care that much because audiences don't care at all. By the same token, if a studio gave Brett and Eddy 200 million to make a film, and they got every details exactly right, audiences wouldn't realise the difference there either.

@@AlanHope2013 while it is sad that people don't care much about the accuracy of the acting when it comes to music, I'm pretty sure the very bad ones like I Hear You makes the fake playing highly noticeable, especially considering the plot revolving around the theme

@miloradowicz 5 лет назад
@@AlanHope2013 you picked not the best example for critique. I mean, if everything's done perfectly, you _aren't_ supposed to notice anything. There wouldn't be anything to notice in fact. And this movie did by far not the worst job at depicting musicians. Consider also, that only half the roast is actually applicable (well, may be three fourth), since the other part brought up what was intentional. But you are right. Movie makers won't bothrr, since putting in additional money and effort most likely wouldn't bring them extra profit.

When I first watched this movie (a few years ago) I was very impressed with her violin acting actually, so I went and did research, and I remember that she was coached by a violinist really well. But she doesn't play violin! So, really impressive amount of work. She said she really tried to mimic what her violin coach did when playing the actual concerto. I find it pretty fascinating how well she captured it. I was the coach for the two cellists in “Le Concert”. The big bearded cellist from the orchestra was very funny when I tried to teach him the moves and shifts on cello but he couldn’t remember so well. The other guy (the rich bald one) he managed to learn to play all the parts like a first grader. He wasn’t supposed to make “sounds” on cello because the soundtrack was to be added afterwards. But he told me he wanted to learn to play the parts in the hope that the film director choose his playing instead of the audio recording. Sadly, the film director added the prerecorded sound to his playing. I was present the day they filmed the scene you presented. 70% of the orchestra was a real symphony orchestra from Romania. The “ concert maestro” was a virtuoso gypsy violinist. The scene is filmed on the stage of the Romanian Opera from Bucharest between 18:00 and 4:00 the next morning. I had to coach the two actors for almost a month prior to the filmed scenes. It was a nice experience. 2 SET, thank you for the memories!

I LOVE Le Concert. I really think that is one in a few movies that treat music seriously. The storyline is all focused in a situation that occurred during a Tchaikovsky violin concerto presentation in the past, and those events lead to the final scene (that one two set are showing in the video). It's kinda weird in some scene, like the chaotic begining when everyone is out of time and not together. In the begining all orchestra is out and a chaos because EVERYONE is a retired musician, and they went to play this last concerto after so much (you'll need to watch to know!). The went to another country and everyone was more concerned to do a tour than playing. This lead out to a concern to the maestro who is trying to make this happen because of the soloist. Her is very upset because there isn't a rehearsal and a lot of unprofessionalism. The chaos in the scene stops when she started to play the solo and everyone remembered her mom that one day played with them in the past, and the real scene begins. There is a lot of little details that make this scene incredible, on music technique and plotpoints. Her acting is really good for someone that doesn't play the violin and is good to know that there is some actors who cares about doing the right stuff. I really recommend the movie, it's funny and have a cool story around this amazing concerto that I love so much ♥ Thanks for this funny review Twoset. Love you!

@johningram2153

A lot of this is just the unavoidable problem of making a film, particularly when the actors are playing music. You MUST have an audio track that provides more continuity than you can get from the multiple takes that are required for film, and generally NONE of that actual audio is going to come from the filmed performances. So the different bow-hold from one take to the next is not at all surprising. Also, the editor of the film has to piece all of these camera angles together, and it's safe to assume the editor is not a violinist (nor are they really making the film for violinists), so it's not surprising that some angles show the soloist playing a different phrase than the audio being played at that time.

I think they intended it to be bad because they said like "dear God if there's a miracle give it now" or something like that
@miloradowicz
@miloradowicz 5 лет назад
@@harmonydew6486 it was supposed to be bad, because the orchestra musicians, according to the plot, were unemployed for 20 years since the USSR's collapse. Some of them did cleaning, some of them did scamming, some were driving taxis and some were even voicing over porn as a side job (didn't know such a thing even existed, though perhaps it actually didn't). And then they skipped the practice altogether because they are stereotypical Russians and just had to go see Louvre/Notre Dame de Paris/get a taste of local gastronomy/do merchandise (those late arrivals with the infamous checkered bags)/attend a meeting of the local Communist Party and so on. So the first minute was supposed to sound trashy. But then they have a collective flashback (there's a tragic incident in the past involved, of which the violin soloist is a reminder to them), and supposedly get their shit together, so all the roast after that is spot on. And while the main body of musicians I believe were real-life musicians, the main actors are all actors. They did a decent job though, the main actress is not a stranger to music after all.

@annabelleb3572
@annabelleb3572 4 года назад
@@andrewdevine3920 Yeah, it's title is literally "The Concert". It's a very good story. Basically, it's about a former russian orchestra conductor at the Bolshoi who lost his job and reputation because he protected the jews under the oppressive government. Many many years later, while he is cleaning the theatre director's desk, he finds a fax from a french theatre director asking for the Bolshoi's orchestra to come to Paris and play. He sees an opportunity to get his career back, and also say "screw you" to the old government. So he goes to find all his ancient orchestra members, and they get ready to impersonate the Bolshoi in Paris. There's another secondary plot in this movie wich is very emotional, I won't get into it to avoid spoilers, but honestly, go watch Le Concert!
