Oh thanks for this! I was wondering why anybody won’t mention this in the comment section- just walk away, don’t make eye contact and don’t say anything other than firm NO. I had this kind of thing in Luxor, Egypt. It got so annoying that at one point I decided to count how many times people followed me and tried to sell me something. 12 times in 15 minutes. I was just walking along the street. As soon as one guy gave up, a new one would run across the street to take his place. Bizarrely, I never had this problem at all in India. I must have gotten lucky.

I just got back from India and man it sucks. There's no privacy and just a lot of annoying people keeps following and talking even if we ignore them they keep on following us. Bro I understand they need to earn money but being a nuisance to other people and making other people uncomfortable isn't cool. 100% not recommended to go visit India. Never coming back!

When I was in India, 2 days were enough for me to change all the plans to visit any touristic places, and I just went to Goa and spent several weeks there instead of travelling across the country. Only when I met foreign tourists, my trip became fun. So I only hanged out with tourists and only completely isolated any communication with locals. To this day, even after 10 years, I have a very bad reaction to India. Its kind of sad because before my visit I was curious about them, but now I have allergy to this culture, except for sitar.

I've lived in Inida for 29 years, traveled all over and am never bothered by touts. You engage them, encourage them, and then then put them down. Your approach needs refinement. Touts and beggars are a non-issue if you simply look away and ignore them.

I'm Australian and I don't even want to travel to these countries because in our culture it is rude to hassle someone on the street. I'd rather travel within my own country which is not polluted. The locals leave you alone or if you ask help you. Even though it is expensive you don't have to haggle for half an hour over every item you wish to purchase. You could be a Hollywood actor and eat in a local restaurant and no one will ask you for a photo, autograph, money or sell you something. The truly sad thing is there are now so many Indians and Chinese in the country who don't even speak English. You have no idea what the Australian Labor party is doing to destroy our culture. Look up the Uluru Voice if you wish to see how Australia is becoming the next Zimbabwe(Rhodesia) or South Africa.

My friend it's not only foreigners even me being native to Srinagar once a man approached to me and told me that you wanna come with me I'll give you free cigrate and all. And for shikara boats they are just hell of a annoying only some of them and they will charge you way more than what's actual price. It’s just like the phone scammers. If they didn’t get suckers who actually believe them and agree to what they want, they wouldn’t keep doing it. Remember that. Maybe you’re too smart for them, but others aren’t and are easily taken advantage of. Sad. It’s so unpleasant. They do this in Thailand too, but not quite as bad. Always with a big smile.

Marrakesh, Casablanca to Agadir whether coming out of a train station or in the streets there was always someone , often part of a group or gang targeting to scam. But this video puts me off travelling to India unless I was with a trusted local. It's not worth the stress.

I hardly ever speak until they give up themselves but it takes a lot of time and harassment to go through before they themselves eventually give in , often using the 'F' word in their language -in this case, in this video ,Hindi.. If they ask you where you come from , just make it up with something absurd -that sends a message right there.

When we were in India the second time, we pretended we didnt speak English, we are Aussies but my husband speaks french so he spoke in french to them , we then heard them telling the other "sales people" to leave us as we dont speak English.. worked a treat and I wish we had thought of it in our previous trip to India

honestly if you think about it, TV and using internet without adblock is exactly the same, they fcking harrass you with their ads, try to use a website on mobile, like in France any magazine website about cars or news, the most famous ones, you're harrassed by ads, everywhere on the screen like, I give up every single time, and every time there is an annoying ass ad on TV or on youtube I'm telling myself, yeah well you know what I'm specially not going to ever buy this because they're giving me cancer with their harrassing, and this street is like in real life popup awful website lmao what a nightmare I think I'd jump in the water and flee and even then I'm pretty sure people would harrass me to get me out of the water for some money XD

I'm an introvert and have a hard time saying "no". The way Karl deals with pushy salespeople without ever raising his voice is inspiring, and I can't help feeling that being exposed to this kind of situation repeatedly would train you to stand up for yourself, which is incredibly empowering. Ignoring certainly works, but we're all pressured at some point in our lives, and we can't always choose to ignore. The other person you're dealing with is another human being, after all. The best way to respond is to learn to respectfully say "no". Well I can't go to India, so watching these videos is the next best thing.

@@raknoknak They might not all be outright scamming, but they're often deceptive and these aggressive tactics scare off the tourists they all rely on for income. It's actually against the law in a lot of countries to follow someone down the street trying to solicit them like that one guy was doing. I do feel their desperation though and it's very depressing.
