Truly brilliant content and high quality production on this channel! When starting a family 20 years ago my focus was on other things and I lost my interest in watches. Subscribing to your videos has relighted my passion. I can only imagine the work that goes into each episode! Outstanding. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Sweden.

Teddy, great video! I love the inclusion of the Grand Seiko SBGW231 - it is a tremendous and classy piece in my opinion with a great dial that really works well as a dressier watch but could be a bit causual as well. I always thought a prefect two or three watch collection could include this piece as the GS contributor and be supported by Tudor BB58 or BB GMT. My "poor mans" alternative to that GS 231 is a Nomos Club Campus white dial with a dressy strap for dress occasions. Also pretty incredible to be able to get a Spring Drive for $3800 US. I learned something there!

These are some of the best videos Teddy offers for those ready to jump with both feet into the rabbit hole. There is just something about purchasing that first watch in excess of $1k that fills you with an odd combination of excitement and apprehension. And you know that once you have crossed that threshold, there is no turning back!

Teddy, I agree with your stance on saving up for the watch you want and not compromising getting a similar watch at a cheaper price point. But I would like to see a video or blog about watches with original designs. Is the omega aqua-terra influenced by rolex oyster perpetual, or is the oyster perpetual also influenced by another? That type of stuff.

This is a really nice video and fits what I am considering for a “step-up” in quality watch that is not outrageous in price. I would be curious how you (and others) feel the Tag Heuer Carrera compares to some of these offerings. It is 39 mm and $2700, with a variety of face colors. So, seems to fit into the sweet spot of quality and potential affordability.

Right, the SBGX261 retails at $2200, not a bad price to get into the GS quality case and finishing plus the best in class quartz movement. Plus it seems like they recently took away some of the entry level automatic heritage models, but until recently you had an excellent option in the SBGR251, retails $3800 with all the amazing GS finishing and featuring a 9S65 movement (the regular 8bps automatic movement is awesome but often forgotten next to hi-beat and spring drive.) I really hope to see options like this come back in the future but may not be the case as GS tries to move their offerings upmarket…

Alas, Grand Seiko discontinued those $3,800 Spring Drives. The replacements now start at $4,800 (and they're a millimeter bigger, which doesn't make me happy). Which is a hell of a jump, and a crying shame. They're moving Seiko upmarket, and they're moving Grand Seiko to match. Those cheaper Spring Drives should be available on the secondary market for quite a while though.

Great video. Can you do a list of the 'attainable' from the trinity, Patek, AP, Vacheron. I've always been curious as to what their entry-level offerings are like in terms of price, attainability and availability. Speaking of availability, you did touch upon the OPs but right now it is an absolute nightmare with the Rolex situation being able to obtain even a humble OP!

Another good video. We all have our favourite brands and it’s good to see how if you ignore the big hitters in the line up, you can still buy into that brand. I’d be interested in another one like this but even higher up the horological tree. I’m thinking VC, Patek, ALS, etc. OK I still couldn’t justify the spend on any of those brands but it would be fun to see how much cheaper the entry pieces are compared to the more celebrated watches.

I have the Mark 18 petite prince. A tip for anyone considering - get the bracelet (it’s too plain on strap and bracelet is awesome). Wears smaller than the lug to lug suggests. Disagree with those who say overpriced - IWC has the movement running chronometer spec and decorates it too - much prettier than a Rolex or Tudor in house (which also cost very little to make, Tudor movements are really ETA/Selita alternatives now with various watches using).

No to mention service cost - unless it's quartz ofc. Service for Tissot/Longines will be cheaper than Omega or Grand Seiko where afaik watch is send back to Japan for service. Many people forget about this that mechanical watches are like cars - can go for many years but need good care or even the most high end werk will fail :)
@arunashamal

Aren't we all buy watches because we chase clout? So the best option is to buy the most affordable to you from the most prestiges brand to you. otherwise a cheap casio is all you need. Vanity is the goal with watches like these so embrace it and ride the train. Buy the cheapest Patek, instead of most expensive citizen.

Re. the Tudor 1926, the SW200 makes it entry level and at $2k, it's a crowded field. I have a similar looking Longines Record with a better movement, that's just one of a dozen options and though I love mine, it won't hold value (and that's cool). Equally, I can't see the 1926 holding value just for the badge.

The Tudor T600 movement is based on a Sellita. It is very well decorated and is regulated by Tudor within COSC tolerances without certification. The service interval recommended by Tudor is ten years. An excellent movement, reliable, accurate, easy and inexpensive to service.

Thanks for putting this list together. I'm glad to see that the Tudor 1926 is on this list b/c I've been eyeing this one for a while now. Specifically the model M91650-0008. It's a classic look, nothing "over the top" but elegant and good price point for what it offers. Yes, that white dial looks fantastic with the splash of blue and would start conversations more than the 0008 version but I'm not convinced it's that versatile of a look. But that's just me, right? Thanks for sharing.
