Not awkward at all, seeing a man who appears to not have much money just found out he was holding onto a small ring with a lot of money. Humble man who finally got a break in life.
It's a ring ffs. What else can be done with it other than 'this man' getting some stability with it. He obviously deserved it. Should it of been in the hands of a rich person?
This mans reaction was one of a humble man who just made his and possibly his families future a whole lot more comfortable. At no point did anyone appear awkward and he certainly didn't. Its not often I get genuinely happy for other people but this was a moment of pure joy and it made me smile.
You're 100% correct in that his reaction and his emotional outpouring isn't awkward in the least. What is awkward is the complete lack of empathy or acknowledgement from the assessor. Imagine you're in that man's position and you have a group of people just staring at you, and on camera no less, as you get so overcome with emotion. I'm sure it was all in the name of "good TV."
This isn't "awkward", it's beautiful! It's extremely rare to see such a genuine and touching happy-moment in someone's life on the television screen. What a lovely man - it's lovely to see someone so modest having such a great piece of luck in their life. Seeing this has cheered me up immensely!
It's very awkward, these two are lovers and turned up to the show with their respective spouses which neither knew of. We're actually witnessing the end of their relationship on-screen without a single word being said.
@@flyingpenandpaper6119 You would think all the words we have they would of picked another word like delightfully shocked or astounded. Good for the man I am glad he has something worth of value. 😉🤗
Absolutely, that’s exactly what l thought. The man wasn’t used to cameras, crowds of people looking at him. I thought he did well to get through that unaided
Exactly. On the American version, the appraisers are always ready to jump in and save awkward moments because they know its bad for tv. This bloke just stood there staring at the poor guy😒
Exactly that was my thinking and I hope he got it auctioned off before one of his family and or friends tried to commandeer it and he looked like he wanted to cry I’m so glad he got a break
Disagree. Remaining silent was the best thing to do; the ring owner was processing all kinds of emotions, no words were necessary. Why steal his moment with some smartarse quip or condescension? It was HIS moment, not the appraiser's.
I was expecting some pompous guy to claim he's holding a Picasso or a Renoir only to find out it's a bargain shop painting. Or a guy holding an item that was stolen just a few days prior. This was quite nice and wholesome. The only thing awkward was the editing.
The ring slipped of the finger hundreds of years ago. As Geoffrey Munn, is a sweet Gentleman , and he always puts People at ease. I believe that the owner wanted to keep the ring for his wife. If I remember correctly.
Yeah, a poor person catching a break is so awkward, whoever edited this video had shit parents or something man. Good for this chap. All us peasants hope for something like this to happen to us, nice to see it happened for him. He looked truly excited for the future in that moment, a feeling I'm sure many of us could use right now.
Isn’t it nice to see a humble guy getting a break for a change. If that’s awkward then let’s hope he has another historical day like that , well done fella .
@@vTempaaahNo source but he has 3 options(roughly): Pay off some of your mortgage, get a new car (20 is fine for new and especially 5+ years ago) or go on a lavish holiday. That or buy your wife what makes her happy or even keep it. Investment is a risk so he won't do that and unless ye likes his toy trains, he's likely to spend it on something more life evolving such as a car. It was just an educated guess.
@@ltipst2962 He might not have a mortgage. Spunking 20k on a new car leaves you with nothing for insurance or fuel to drive it. Does he look like he would go on a lavish holiday? No. A trinket for the wife? Dumb. None of what you said was really an educated guess.
Editing but also lavishing in sheer enjoyment. Let's rather believe he left there very very happy and only has fond memories and got even more than 20k! :)
Yeah, so did I, especially when I saw the word "awkward". There HAVE been moments though on AR where the object has quickly been appraised as less than worthless.
The guy was speechless. You know something is extremely exciting or extremely horrifying if you’re left speechless like this! He looks so happy in this moment and that’s so nice to see.
The only thing awkward here is the misuse of the English language. I note also online that many do not know the actual meaning of some words: “Ridiculous”, “Weird,” “Ironic.” Just three that come to mind as used wrongly time and again. This scene is not remotely awkward for anyone involved.
Not remotely awkward. I was starting to tear up seeing this genuine reaction. What a lovely surprise. Being close to totally broke my entire life,i could more than relate to his response.
@@ltipst2962 My daughter found a clay pipe, Sally Morgan predicted it once had been in a man's mouth, the audience was stunned, how could Sally have known this obscure fact? Absolutely stunned the audience was, totally amazing ability, you could have heard a pin drop in the theatre, this revalation that the pipe had been in a man's mouth literally left the attendees gobsmacked!
The expert could have made that exchange much less awkward. I imagine he'd not have allowed the pregnant silence if the gentleman had appeared more well-heeled.
Far from awkward, that man was probably just so overwhelmed and could not believe his luck that he had something of such value and could change his life, pay off any debts he may have had and improve his life, good on him.
Beautiful right. You've got a good heart on you, these comments have given me faith in humanity in abundance. Some of us Brits just have it right. I love it, nice comment dude have the best year yet
Poor guys probably been thru some real hard times and that little nugget been laying in a drawer gathering dust the whole time...looks like a mixture relief and disbilief 😂❤❤❤
Really powerful release of emotions that for me as a viewer, saw a man who wasnt afraid to be shocked and dumb founded by the good news of being the owner of a object with a great value.

Nah, the most awkward Roadshow moment was when a clearly wealthy woman brought her collection of imported elephant ivory statuettes on to be valued, and she looked immensely pleased with them, until she was told that they were VERY illegal. She then remembered that they weren't really hers, and were just kinda family airelooms that she really wasn't too happy about. The Roadshow hung that woman out to dry, 8pm on Sunday night. Absolutely savage.
I think this is beautiful because it looks like a working class man getting some REALLY good news. Were he rich, you wouldn't get this genuine reaction! Even if the ring was worth a fraction, l'd still wear it, it's GORGEOUS! And good on you mate!!👍🏻🍻. Cheers! 🌈🇨🇦☮️
So where is the information ? Is it a Black Diamond ? Estimated Carat weight ? Metal Quality, i.e. Carat if it's gold ? Estimated Age ? Was there an estimated value of this ring ? One with a Tiny stone sold at aution for £20,000 so, comparative size would help ?
@@TonyEnglandUK Wrong. Wrong. Describing a moment as awkward and making it the title of a heartwarming video is hardly sparkling wit. It’s just stupid.
My Dad told me about a more "awkward situation" on ARS. This woman had brought in a piece of Colonial American furniture and the appraiser asked if this was the condition of the piece when they purchased it. The woman stated that her husband had refinished it a few years prior. The appraiser informed the woman, the piece, theoretically, could've been owned by one of the Founding Fathers, and was worth $17,000 USD, but had her husband not refinished it, it would have been worth $200,000 - $300,000 USD. Needless to say, she was quite disappointed with the husband.
The presenter just stayed painfully silent instead of continuing to explain, extol etc.. The owner was gobsmacked, so the awkwardness was certainly not his fault..
Yeah, I thought it was really sweet. He was all red and overwhelmed that he won the lotto. At first, when he said there was an almost identical ring, and thought it was stolen. THAT would have been awkward
I love jewellery expert Geoffrey Munn. Such love and knowledge of jewellery. When he does his appraisals he loves to tease the owner. Imagine him choosing a piece of jewellery for you; it would have exactly the right meaning. That gent with the ring was genuinely overcome. If that ring was mine, I'd have a copy made and sell the original.
I saw this exact episode recently. The man really was stunned, but the awkward moment wasn't as long as seen here with parts of it being looped a few extra times.
The MOST awkward moment was when someone was informed that a violin and a painting they had, were by Rembrandt & Stradivarius. Then they were told, "Unfortunately, Stradivarius was rubbish at painting, and Rembrandt...................."
Everything is so so cute! Glad you can enjoy buying those things, especially at such great discounts. You definitely have a good eye! Really needing that healing confirmation! ❤❤🙏🏽
I remember the American episode when a man had a Indian blanket that was proven a historical treasure and was worth several hundreds of thousands of dollars. He just started weeping from joy.
What made this awkward was the presenter obviously being told in his ear piece to stop talking and to stare at the man who didn’t quite know what to do. He’s been utterly manipulated there. Arrogant so and so’s.
@@annschurman4888 I think it was found in the earth..on in his garden or somewhere remember it from ages ago} It is Old English if I remember correctly. Might have been Anglo Saxon? Very early gold stuff looks like polished brass, but without tarnish.
