I like If only the enemy general had been as much of a boss as Iga, they could have duelled to the death and solved the issue right there without any further loss of life (In ancient times such as Rome and apparently Japan, it was common for the leaders of opposing armies to duke it out one on one, mano y mano to resolve a conflict, and spare their men. They of course had to both be badasses though which apparently sadly doesn't appear to be the case here - and look at that, history remembers Iga, and not the other guy...) On a random note, during my history studies I came across this very intriguing explanation for the kamikaze pilots in WW2, and why there were so many young men willing to undertake a suicide mission It turns out the Japanese government was like 'it's what a Samurai would do! What you waiting for' And the barely-adult guys were like 'f*ck yeah! I'll fly my plane into an enemy ship if it's what a samurai would do!' Yes, some of them weren't that enthusiastic but the age-old combination of propaganda, pressure, and shame made a lot of them climb into their cockpits anyway, trembling with fear about to go to their deaths in what was clearly by now an unwinnable fight and only prolong the inevitable loss of the war amid mounting casualties You have to applaud their bravery. They must have known this but were still loyal enough to go through with it to the end Anyway many +1 internets Linfamy dude, your content is awesome
Henry V, too. "And gentlemen in England now-a-bed shall think themselves accursed they were not here, and hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks that fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day!"
More badass samurai stories please! I'd love to learn more about Kawakami Gensai and the other members of the Bakumatsu. I've only heard bits about them. Heard this guy was the inspiration for Battousai.
bro xD the humor in your stories gets me everytime, and everytime I look in the comment for someone to quote them and I don't find any !! that's a shame ! anyway ! I love your humor
May I ask how you get interesting historical stories? Do you use books or you just search the internet? And do you speak Japanese since your videos are based on Japanese history?
this is f up man i was crying wtf ? i love him ❤️ he is awesome thank you so much for introducing me to my new hero....this man was a real man a real hero wow that's a sad 💔 story but one of strength and courage and awesomeness 🙏
Random idea. It would be really fun to see you break down the accuracies and inaccuracies of video games and animes that take place in Japan during historical periods/events. If you do decide to do this I'm putting my vote in for the Onimusha games!
I read a story about a samurai that got surrounded by his enemy. Not wanting to die by their hands, he cut his own head off with his short sword. The account says he made the cut, then his body held his head up by the hair for all to see and he glared at the enemy before collapsing.
Thanks for the video!!! I did not know about this samurai, too bad there is no portrait, no image of him, as if there are others included from the Kamakura period.
Mitsusue is a badass and all badasses end up on the throne of heroes (get on with it type-moon!!!) But again this story doesnt really seem modern japan friendly if you know what i mean
@@adzi6164 I am talking about the "Chrysanthemum Taboo" its basically an unofficial law that forbids you from making fun or portraying the emperor in a negative way Its unofficial because techinically the goverment has no such law but most japanese deeply respect the emperor (to an unhealthy degree if you ask me) this is the reason why you don't see the emperor in any anime
@@dirckthedork-knight1201 "the emperor" implies the current emperor. IDK if they look the same way at the old historical ones... after all, if they really did, then this story would've been most propably suppressed in the modern times.
@@adzi6164 Nope the taboo includes his family so his ancestors are defently in it Keep in mind that its *unoffical* there is no goverment backing about its just a popular belief to be honest i would not be suprised if this was actually suppressed during the imperial era when the emperor was actually in charge although the themes of better dying than surrendering would probably be very attractive to the imperial military
That must’ve actually hurt a bit - telling your son to jump in a fire only for him to turn to you and beg you to kill him first. Talk about a gut punch
i think the number of "stay" person will be ~80, like...samurai's honor turn out it's only 29. Well....another day, another hit to the samurai's figure in my mind lol
It's not me.....When are you doing to do a video about me ? You let me down once again, Linfamy. tsk tsk tsk. I am the most bad ass samurai no one has ever known.
