I own a house there. The reason the average price is so high is because there are a handful of houses worth tens of millions that bring the average up. There are quite a few smaller family homes still on the island that were bought decades ago before the prices skyrocketed. It is a beautiful place and people walk up from the public beach to lay on the beachfront property of the residences all the time. I don't know of anyone who minds. I know I don't. Everyone should have a chance to visit this slice of paradise. On Sundays, there is a steady stream of cars and motorcycles going by the house as people enjoy driving the island to see the homes and the spectacular views. You drive around a corner and suddenly there is a beautiful view of the gulf, around the next corner is one of the bay, and the sunsets are stunning almost every day. Glad you got to spend some time on my favorite place on earth.
We here similar stories from folks on many of the barrier islands... that prices used to be affordable but have gone up 10 times or more over the last 20 years. We really do love the island and can understand why the extremely wealthy want to live there, and we're thankful that we are still able to visit and enjoy the islands amazing beaches!
We found this stretch of perfection unexpectedly last year. I said if i ever hit the lottery this is where I'll live! Thanks for the suggestion of Pops, looks cool!
Wow, what a great place to stumble upon. When you win the lottery and buy your beach-front Mansion on Casey Key, we hope you let us come film it for an episode on our channel 🤣
Wow, beautiful! My husband and I can't wait to get back to warm, sunny Florida....hopefully soon! Would love to spend a day here exploring. Thanks for the great video 👍👍
It really is a beautiful place. We'd highly recommend checking it out, even if it's just to drive down the island. It's probably the most beautiful drive we've ever experienced in Florida! Thanks for watching, as always, Ramune!
It's been so long, but so great to catch up with you guys on your beautiful day! Love the SCOOTER is so fun!! Too bad you couldn't paddle board but it is safe that you don't do it at night or it could be super dangerous! Love the full tour around and love the food at the final place! Salmon BLT!?!?!? Salmon Wrap!?!? All sounds amazing and ending with a stunning Drum Circle!
We've stayed on Casey Key, right next to Nokomis Beach, many times. The reason it was less crowded north of the main parking & beach entrance is because you were no longer on the public beach. We stay at A Beach Retreat, and their property is where it becomes private for all the little resorts along the beach. I didn't realize it myself until the sign was pointed out to me. Of course, any area below the mean high tide line is open to anyone.
Thanks so much for sharing, Karen! We knew it was legal to walk the beach up and down Casey Key provided you entered at the public access, but we didn't realize there was a certain point where you would have to stay below the mean high tide line.
Not sure when you visited Pop’s but they just opened a brand new kitchen just for serving breakfast and it is DELICIOUS!!! If you go, make sure you try the bacon and the cinnamon rolls!
Oh wow that sounds awesome. We were there within the last month, so I'd imagine the breakfast kitchen was open, but we had no idea about it! We will definitely check it out next time we are in the area in the a.m. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment, Tess!
Casey Key looks gorgeous! Definitely had never heard of it before this video, but we'll definitely add it to our Florida list now! And yes, we'd definitely spend a day on Nokomis Beach 👍
Yeah we figured you guys would be happy to spend a day there😄! It really is a gorgeous island, and the drive down Casey Key Rd alone is worth the trip!
Wow! Nokimis beach looks so perfect, especially the quieter North side. Perfect to relax or play - Craig is the same! 😂 Your scooters are so great for so many reasons but being able to keep your parking spot and enjoy scenery as you look for lunch is just awesome!
It really is the perfect beach in many ways! We do love our scooters. Not only are they a fun way to get around, but they are also save us so much time and energy trying to find parking for a normal sized vehicle!
Wow, this island looks beautiful! Imagine living in that 8mil house 🤩😅 Still can’t believe how blue the water is over there. Just love how you can use your scooters to get around. I think the spicy tuna wrap is the best food of the day 🤤
$8Mill is just the average. Some of the larger ones that overlook the beach go well above that. It's crazy! It would pretty amazing to live there, but I couldn't imagine paying the tax and insurance let alone affording to buy the house! On sunny days when the gulf is calm (especially late mornings), the Gulf really is beautiful. And we agree that the tuna wrap was the best meal of the day!
@@summerlinpublic5673 we ended up getting Glion Dolly scooters because they fold up easily and don't take up much space in our apartment. We love them! We can store and charge them behind our bedroom door 😁
@@atb1549 We have only spent a little bit of time in Tierra Verde in our Shell Key episode. We ate at two different places and had good experiences, but I dont think we have spent enough time there to have a good feel for it yet! Are you familiar with that area? Thanks so much for watching :)
Thanks, guys. Lots of sharks teeth wash up on Casey Key, but those generally come from miles out in the gulf. We have never seen a shark or heard of anyone seeing a shark on Casey Key, but I'm sure there are some (likely smaller ones) around.
I was planning to visit in the next few weeks but apparently all of America is thinking the same in April. I’ve never seen a time with no hotels available where I want to visit. But I do love a challenge. Maybe see you soon.
Wow that's crazy. We are likely going to be booking some hotel stays further south in Florida over the next couple of months, sounds like we may have our work cut out for us!
My family spent summers on Casey key for several decades. Didn't have many homes on it . People gradually built houses as the years passed. We stayed at what is now called A Beach Retreat ,next to the public beach. We had so many seashells from there too. The water is such a beautiful blue too. My brothers and I were there about 20 years ago, some of the happiest days of my life were spent there. I truly miss it.
Guys, thank you so much for your always wonderful suggestions about places to visit. I got a question, would you consider this a nice place for paddle boarding?
Our pleasure, Leonardo. That's a great question about the paddleboarding. We've actually made several paddleboard trips from Turtle Beach (on the south side of Siesta Key) to the norther part of Casey Key. It's a really beautiful and fun paddle and good for beginners. You can also rent paddleboards right next to the Casey Key fishouse, and I would imagine that would be a really good paddleboarding spot as well! If you are more experienced, just launching off Nakomis Beach and paddling north up the beach would be a really fun paddle too!
Wow $8 million average price is pretty crazy - must be such a different life to be a multimillionaire!! The beach area looks really beautiful there and I'd love to stay by the water therefor the day. But there was also a lot of nice scenery in the area - and food is always important - and so are the beers!! Seems like you guys (and your scooters) had the perfect day exploring the beaches. And all your videos make me want to move to Florida 😂
Yeah, I don't think I could ever be rich enough to justify paying $8 million for a house. But if I did, it just might be on Casey Key 😄. With beautiful beaches, scenery, and weather and good food and beers, we really couldn't have asked for much of a better day!
If I remember correctly, the Sharktooth Cafe did do some rentals (their website lists having kayak and paddleboard rentals), but I'm not sure if they do chairs and umbrellas or not. Thanks so much for watching.
So which house was Stephen kings? LOL It's hard to pick between all the different beaches you have featured lately, but I do like the fact that's it's mostly residential and not a lot of tourists. Hands up for the calamari and shrimp too please !!! I love my seafood when I'm away - Matt doesn't like a lot of it and only seem to get it when I'm away..LOL. I would have gone with the salmon BLT too, but looked a little hard to get my mouth around HAHA That drum circle reminded me of Fiji, lots of lights and a beautiful sunset behind - IT's just amazing guys and a nice way to end the evening.
We are pretty sure we know which one is his, but didn't want to give that info away in the video! We really weren't that in to seafood either until we moved to Florida. But when you live close to the water and have access to so much delicious seafood, we couldn't help but grow to love it. On most days we prefer the non-touristy beaches as well, but every now and then we do like the more energetic and touristy spots. That salmon BLT really was quite hard to eat, but it was worth the difficulty. Seeing a drum circle in Fiji would be so cool. But I have a feeling that the drum circles here in the states would not seem too great after experiencing a Fiji drum circle!
Yeah we would have to agree. All the food we had that day was good, but the spicy tuna wrap was the best! It certainly is a nice area, and we can only dream of ever having the money to live there! I couldn't imagine the tax and insurance bills!
You're right, we have never heard of it before. We would totally spend a day (or 10) at Nokomis beach. Such a beautiful drive, and to end up at a fish house for lunch sounds perfect.
Average home is $8M? OMG, those people have zero sense of what other people in the world are facing thru in their lives whatsoever... Anyways.... Beautiful video as always, you are our true guide of Florida and we can't be more thankful. Nokomis beach is so dreamy and beautiful, thanks for introducing us. The lunch spot is amazing too! Love Spicy Tine wrap! Now I am hungry lol
Yeah, we were pretty surprised by that figure too. We figured homes would be well over $1 Million on average, but $8 Million is pretty crazy for Florida, and certainly more than we could ever dream of paying for a home. That spicy tuna wrap was soooo good! We actually just bought ingredients to try to make it at home. Wish us luck!!!
Lol, not even close. We own a house there. Not an 8 million dollar home, but a nice house which family and friends have enjoyed for years. My husband dug ditches and pulled cable for years until he built up his business while I raised four kids, worked from home, and survived two different kinds of cancer. We lived paycheck to paycheck for a lot of years before the business took off. Even now that we are comfortable, we don't live much differently except we don't have to worry about bills anymore. We still do repairs, laundry, cooking, gardening, cleaning, etc. just like everyone else. The best thing is we can help out family, friends, and charities to keep others from struggling. We drive a five year old Explorer. No yachts, not even a boat. Some people with money live the life you are imagining, but most don't. They are standing in line next to you at the grocery store or sitting next to you at your kid's school meeting and you would never know. They're just people.
We enjoy your videos! Do you lock your scooters to a bike rack when you eat? Where did you get them? We are 61, but think they may be good for us when we visit and / or move to The Gulf.
Thanks, Keith! We like them to bike racks when available, but other times we'll lock them to a fence post, sign post, or whatever is available. Other times we will just bring them into restaurants with us as they can be pulled behind you like a suitcase and will fit under the table. We really love them and would recommend them to anyone. They are made by a company called Glion. We purchased ours off their website.
