Based on YT videos I've seen on stops, I recommend that as soon as you put your car in Park, and before you open your window, hit your door lock button. Many cars, Hyundais and Kias in particular, automatically unlock all doors as soon as you put em in Park. And, several times in videos, I've seen a cop open an unlocked door without warning. Of course, follow his instructions, and if told to step out of the car, do so. But don't give the police an opportunity to open the door without warning. You may get one who's gone into a rage because you went one block and pulled over in a store parking lot instead of stopping immediately. With the door locked, he can't open it without warning, and yank you out without even announcing himself first.
You are spot on. I tell everyone when they are stopped by police to lock your doors and only crack one window at a time. If cop at passenger door, roll up the drive window b4 lowing the passenger window thus not creating a cross draft to prevent the 'I smell marijuana.' Stay safe.
What a load of crap. When you refuse the FST's, it becomes prima facie evidence for the officer that you are inebriated. Notice that the Barrister here didn't address the Breathalyzer test that will be requested after the arrest? Finally - Your antennas should go up whenever someone offers advice while standing in front of a bookcase, as if that is some indication of their superior knowledge.
Actually, refusing sfst's is not prima facie evidence that someone is intoxicated. An officer can use the refusal as part of their decision to arrest you, but it's easier to get a good result on someone's case with no test instead of a bad test.
