I really enjoyed your video, I have a pinhole camera on order and waiting for its delivery. I am sixty seven years old and have loved photography as far back as I can remember. Like most I dropped film and transitioned to digital. I retired a couple of years and one day opened a drawer and there was my old AE1 Canon. I did some research and found that film was still available. Now the digital cameras are the ones in the drawer. Started developing my own black & white film. I have been shooting 35mm and medium format. Been wanting to try large format and pinhole looks like a good place to start. Thanks for inspiring me !

Martin thank you so much for putting your videos up on RU-vid, I've now bought my first film camera after seeing your videos as I feel digital is too easy even though I've always shot in manual mode, somehow putting so much technology into a camera seems to remove the fun of actually taking a photograph. I'm looking forward to learning how to develope and print using chemicals.

No idea why RU-vid recommended this to me. Maybe it's because I translate for the Budapest Museum of Ethnography and lately I've been researching photography terminology for one of their new exhibitions. Anyway, whatever the Interwebs were thinking, I'm grateful, because this was immensely enjoyable. It was especially gratifying to witness the marriage of modern techology (phone apps, RU-vid content creation) with historical technology. I wonder if it would be hard to get a pinhole camera here in Italy? I made one once in elementary school out of a cardboard box and I might even still have the pictures I took with it. In any case, this has certainly got me thinking...

Nice pictures! As always! Thanks for all the effort you put in to let us learn from your large knowledge in analog photography. I specially like your episodes about pinhole as well as the very old cameras. In fact they arroused my interrest in this genre. Recently someone donated me an old Agfa Clack. I thought it was broken, as the lens was missing. Took me a moment to realise - its a converted pinhole camera. So cool. According to a pinhole calculator app, its focal distance is about 2mm short for optimal "sharpness", so I made a plan to extend it and as well added a holder to fit yellow filters. Eager to load my first film and take my first pinhole pictures, needless to talk about my first analog film development. :-). All this as a result of your very educational videos from which I learn a lot. Thank you!

Thanks again Martin for your expertise and insight. Love shooting film and own a few film cameras but also love the simplicity and freedom of a pinhole camera. I have a homemade one with 55mm focal length and 0.3mm PH. Works quite well. For exposure have you considered using the 'Pinhole Assist' app on the phone. It has 257 camera presets/110 film stocks loaded and calculates exposure with allowance for reciprocity all built in. Because its a phone app it only does reflective measurements but I've found it to be pretty spot-on for exposure (and I use Fomapan which is a bugger for reciprocity failure). Can't remember what it cost, if anything, but wouldn't be exorbitant. Cheers from Australia and keep up the good work.

Your channel is a marvel and always inspiring! Pinhole has perfect geometric projection, so straight lines *always* remain straight - without expensive and heavy glass 😁. And with a range of pinholes of optimized size I can use a wide variety of "focal" lengths in a very small and lightweight package (for me it is 65 to 150 mm on 4x5 with 6 pinholes).

Awesome results Martin, the first frame is a cracker. I'm seriously fancying a try at pinhole photography thanks for the inspiration. From what I understand, and I'm probably wrong here but even though you don't monetise your channel RU-vid does so they're making brass off your efforts, I didn't want to monetise my channel as I hate ads with a passion, but figured the coin is better in my pocket. To be fair I'd make more money selling my arse in Armley nick, but bugger that lark.

Agree, Martin. I started with experimenting pinhole photography last year and I enjoy it so much as a medium. I've used film for such a long time, but I always felt there was something visually I wasn't quite getting - pinhole photography filled that. One question I do have is on using red filters. That's the next one I want to use. Where should I start and how will that affect my exposure times?
@martinhensonphotography
@martinhensonphotography Год назад
You will need to know the filters filter factor, red filters are around 3 stops, so If your using a 400 film speed meter at 3 stops less say 50iso , it will of cause increase exposure times
@TahoeRealm
@TahoeRealm 6 месяцев назад
Just thinking about getting a pinhole camera. Is there a beginner option you'd recommend? Also, have you done video on developing and printing pinhole pictures. I developed/printed B&W film years ago in high school ('80), but I am a complete beginner to this pinhole camera realm. Thank you.
