Unluckily, Andy is met with a drain unblocking job in the worst circumstances. The blockage is as old as he is, and he is ankle deep in human waste. There's not much that can be done, but we do do our best, as ever, to leave the site better than how we found it. What would you do in these circumstances?

Unplugged the drain, proceeded with the clean then charged the for hazard materials cleaning AND the drain unblocking. Then fired them as a customer.

They need help for sure. Sometimes labor and sometimes financial. Other times it's a mental disorder. This looked more like a mess then a hoarder.

But when your drain is blocked and your yard is filling up, who keeps on using the damn thing and doesn't call the drain guys immediately? Did they think it was going to unblock itself?

It’s all too easy to make excuses for places in this state, even mentally ill people can pick up a phone or have friends that can help. 99% of the time I bet you this is lazy people who rent and expect a landlord to fix everything.

The sad thing is that prior to the sewage flood, that tiny yard could easily have been completely cleared with a couple of hours relatively easy labour. No excuse for living like that, Clearly the householder doesn't care.

Unless they are disabled and don’t get help they need. Thankfully I haven’t got rubbish scattered all over my garden, but I can’t mow my lawn and struggle to afford getting someone in to strim grass more than a couple times a year and if I can’t afford that there’s no way I can afford to have grass replaced with a no mow alternative. Some people are just lazy and before my health failed I actually did a massive clean up of similarly gross (minus sewage) garden at 1st shared house, as other tenants and landlord just didn’t care, so really bugs me that my garden looks so over grown. Granted a bit of long grass is nothing compared to this, but could be a similar issue with resident for all we know.

I don’t think many would chose for their yard to get in that state, there must be a reason, and beyond a certain point, it s more than one possibly ill/infirm person can manage. I hope they get help with this from some kind soul!

I'm Shocked the local Municipality wasn't called in? If the owner was disabled or old they would have done it for them or arranged someone else! I take it for granted it was an absentee landlord that put the call in after they got sued

It is like being an hoarder not only directly affects the person who suffers this, but indirectly the people around him, family, neighbors and in your case you had the opportunity to be in a place where it is difficult to work in this type of conditions, beyond the work itself, makes you think a lot and that mental health is important

Well fella, I'm full of admiration for you, you didn't judge the person, did what you had to do and as you intimated quoted the person for a full clean up job. Me if I was a neighbour I would have been onto public health as soon as it became apparent there was blockages as it seems the householder had been away a while. Perhaps they were in hospital etc. It would be interesting to know the outcome?

Needed more than the broom, it needed a jet washer, I wouldn't bother salvaging any of the rubbish so burn it all, like the kids lunch bag I wouldn't give that to anyone even once it's been deep cleaned, it's been soaking in dirty water.

Your commentary throughout the video was impressive. I don't know if I could have been so sensitive to the situation, or spoken so calmly about things. I don't know the homeowner's circumstances, but with such a mess, there must be something wrong if they couldn't deal with some of that on their own. Anyway, I respect your professionalism a lot.

I loved that show! Kim could be so brutal sometimes, she had a wicked tongue but you could tell they both had respect and compassion for the people they were helping. They also provided A lot of wonderful all natural cleaning tips too

You poor darling!! You were dealt a bad hand on tis job. So sorry you had to deal with the filth, stench, and unkempt yard messiness. Worst thing is when the blockage is so old, I was probably still in diapers when it happened (I'm over 50.. lol). Kudos to you for straightening that iron spine and soldiering through the job. Great job, done as well as can be expected and above the call of duty. This job reminds me of when I was a TV engineer with a rental company in the 80's and I had to visit a hoarders house to fix the TV. We just cancelled the contract and let the customer keep the TV. It was horrendous and what was worse the customer knew, had all his faculties and did not care.

because councils don't have the budget or manpower to deal with them. It's largely up to individuals how they wish to live, and prior to the blockage the yard might have been a mess, but wasn't really a hazard to anyone other than the occupier.

I live in the northern US. I've never seen a plumbing access port like this here. I just had tree roots cleared out of my sewer line. The access port is in my basement. I could never push stuff through with a broom unless the water was 6 inches high. Luckily I cought the problem before i had a big mess. I was tipped off because my sump pump was running continuously. The pump isn't directed out of the house yet, I have it feeding into a floor drain.

Probably the wrong place to ask and I'm a bit thick when it comes to this stuff, but a few years back the fire service hooked up to the stop stap outside our house and put a tap on it. Is this something that all outside stop taps can do? might be useful for you?

:51 That is the worst looking property I've ever seen! 😲 My next door neighbor is a backyard horder and his back yard looks good compared to this dump of a mess! I wouldn't touch this property with a ten foot pole, disgusting! 😞 With all this raw sewage, everything in this entire area should be thrown out. In USA, we'd have a condemned sign on our home for anything like this. It needs more than just antiseptic!

Prisoners should be used for jobs like this, set up a team, send out and clear out such gardens and homes, this would definitely turn me off wanting to go back..... This needs to be brought to the council's attention if they don't already know, the environmental health officer needs to be calling there.
