A cry of a mother losing her child is the most painful thing to hear. My soul felt this.

So moving. The parent/child bond is unbelievably strong for so many living things on earth.

Aside from this breaking my heart, the fact that her friend came over to comfort her made me cry even more :( Animals are so fascinating.

The fact the other penguin had compassion and tried to confront her, shows that animals have emotions like we do and an intelligence to understand

It’s so crazy to think that friends exist in all living things. The women friend knew that she was going through pain and comforted her, just like humans do.

Anyone ever says to me that animals don't have feelings and I will haunt them with this video forever.

Even in the animal kingdom, penguins show more emotion than some of the humans I've seen, real talk.

That is why I never really could watch animals documentaries. There is no show, nothing is staged, just pure life, beautiful or sad.

Animals feel every emotion we feel, and to see another female come up and comfort the grieving mother speaks volumes of their intelligence. Penguins have 1 mate and mate for life, their soul purpose is to raise their young to maturity. Which is almost identical to human behavior

My cat lost her sister from one day to the other (she had an accident) she kept looking for her around the house for weeks, calling her... It was heartbreaking to see her like that, I guess one day she realized her sister wasn't coming back and she got very depressed and was not eating well and lost some weight, she got better with time, but she never got to cuddle and play like she did with her sister with our other cats... The attachments animals form are really strong, just like ours...

Her friend comforting her 💔... cows do this for each other in line at slaughterhouses, they push to get to their friends for comfort. Sentient beings all 😢.

These types of scenes are clear indications, though on a different, though perhaps not well-understood, plane from the human experience, that there are other species more sentient than they are given respect for. Those we do give respect to some, such as dogs, they were selected based on how they benefit us, not for their intrinsic value, or simply because they exist and they evolved for an ecologically-oriented reason and have a role to play in the web of life. It pains me to think about the highly intelligent pigs being bred and raised in factory farms, and other intelligent sentient beings that suffer at the hands of humans, or whose habitats are rapidly being wiped out, or who are slaughtered for body parts (e.g., elephant tusks). It is a tragedy that the top predator and self-proclaimed master of the planet--the human being--thinks it is so smart and so entitled to do what it wants with all that is of the earth, that it has disconnected from the ecological realm within which it belongs and is on a suicide mission. What's that organism that kills its host? Oh yes, a parasite. Kill the host without another host to invade spells death of the parasite. I could carry this further, but for the reality that exists in the near and not so near future, this is all that matters. I hope a documentary entitled "The Expression of Grief in Animals: A Universal Bond." Or something like that, showing the various ways animals grieve and respond to others that are grieving, and what might influence the forms of expression, whether and how it is learned or instinctive, and whether it serves an evolutionary purpose in survival. That would be very interesting!

Ugh this is so horrible. I remember when our cat Morgana had her litter and one of the babies died. She was devastated. The body of the little one was still on her box when we found him and she meowed for so long when we took him away. Then when her babies stopped nursing, we gave them to close friends and had Morgana neutered... She was depressed for 2 months. Went from a playful streetcat to a still sentry. She just stood there, watching movement. Ate very little and barely responded to our petting. After she recovered from the surgery she got a little better, but she was never the same
