Okay. So I vote 🗳 this is the ONLY Christmas 🎄 song that is allowed to be played, BEFORE any other Xmas song from here on out! Who else agrees?🎅🏼✌🏼🇸🇪

As a combat vet. One thing I learned. The hardest thing to keep alive in combat. Your humanity. My great grandfather was a major in the German Army in WWI. He said "I ordered my soldiers to never fire on Christmas Day." The only orders he said he never regretted.

The cross in the end actually exists. It's located somewhere near Ypres in Belgium. It's a memorial for the Christmas truce and was put there in 1999. the actual cross reads: 1914 The Khaki Chums Christmas Truce 1999 85 Years Lest We Forget

The Christmas Truce might be one of, if not the, most beautiful moments of battle... ever. It may not have lasted long but it was beautiful!

"At six o'clock everything became quiet, and it was completely quiet," wrote an anonymous English soldier in The Times on January 1, 1915. He was at the front in France during the First World War and described how the fighting against the Germans on his front section spontaneously ceased just over one week before Christmas Eve. "We sat around the fire all evening, and around 11 pm an infantry officer told us that all fighting had been called off, and that soldiers were meeting between the trenches," the story reads. There was no agreement in advance, when the soldiers stopped the firing just before the first Christmas of the war. It would in history be called the "Christmas Armistice". The soldier says that the enemies met in no man's land the following morning. The German soldiers constantly clasped their heels and were extremely polite, but not much was said, as they did not master each other's languages. Finally, a German, who had lived in the United States for a few years, stepped forward and acted as an interpreter. Cigars and small gifts were exchanged, and a German soldier asked an Englishman to send his picture to his aunt in Liverpool. "Most Germans are cheerful and happy people, and it seems so stupid to fight them," wrote another British soldier in the same issue of the newspaper. When Christmas Day ended at midnight, the fighting resumed, and the front was again marked by violence. When the British General Staff heard about the many spontaneous ceasefires, they issued a furious order that fraternization with the enemy was strictly forbidden. When the front soldiers tried something similar at Christmas 1915, they only in very few cases managed to get Christmas peace. Makes you think... who are the real enemy?

This song got me teared up many times by now. It just shows, that even in something as horrible as a world war, there can still be a glimmer of humanity. And humanity is the one thing the world needs the most right now. I'm so happy, that i get to see Sabaton Live on their Tour in Cologne (Germany) on the 1st of April 2022

this song gets me everytime 🥺💖 my grandmother lost every 3 brothers in WW1 (German Army), my grand uncle lost one leg and was traumaticised that he commited suicide in the event of the news about the start of WW2

When I first heard this song last week in my local coffee shop, I wept unashamedly; as many have said, jokingly or not, this is the ONLY Christmas song that I would ever permit to play before Thanksgiving. Can you imagine the COURAGE it would have taken to step out over the walls of your trench, holding your hat by way of parley, to try to establish peace, if only for a moment?

Carol of the Bells will never be the same after I have listened to this...

Proof that even in war you can still find your humanity if you try very hard. As a Nam combat vet this one really got me much as En Livstid I Krig LIVE had me chopping onions. Hard watching this and thinking of those buddies who never got to make it home for the Christmas holidays ever again. Sabaton's great secret is that they bring the ordinary experience of history to life so you experience it like those who were caught up in it, some gallant heroes but mostly those ordinary people long forgotten to history but not by Sabaton. Here you experience the insanity of war, singing, playing football, and exchanging gifts only to return to the brutality the next day. This is the experience of any war no matter the time or the parties involved the same insanity reins from one age to the other, sadly as Sabaton points out in all there many hits we never seem to learn from our humanity and return to the insanity so quickly!!! Well done Jen and if you didn't reaction emotionally to this then you are either dead or a soulless excuse for a human being!!!!

Jen, there is another song about the cease-fire order on Christmas, called "Belleau Wood," by I believe Garth Brooks. He also sings about how, during World War I, both the Allied troops and German troops sang Christmas songs and Carol's across No-Man's-Land. In some places, the Germans and Allies even got together and had Christmas dinner, despite the fact that the day before and the day after, they were slogging it out in the trenches. It just goes to show that even in the darkest pits of Hell on Earth, there can always be found a glimmer of hope. And Jen? I'm not sure if you or anyone else caught it, but throughout this song, you can hear Sabaton's version of Carol of the Bells, one of the most powerful Christmas songs ever made.

I don't think Sabaton would even consider others than Floor. They goes way back, touring together ReVamp and Sabaton - Floor pranking Joacim on stage - and Hannes and Floor of course. Hannes and Floor have often guys from Sabaton on visit - and Floor uses the Sabaton guys on her covers.. They would never ask others than the Valkyrie Queen - and she would never refuse. It's not her first appearance on a Sabaton song..

Can you just imagine the anxiety and fear that the first ones to come up out of the trenches must have been feeling during that. I just cannot imagine how that must have felt not knowing what the other side was going to do at first as they came out. One thing that happened after the truce as it happened on multiple areas on the battlefield is all the units involved on both sides had to be relocated to other parts of the battlefield as the commanders feared they would not actually fight each other again after they now saw the other side as people with names and faces and now friends they just got to know. As for Floor doing the singing at the credits, that was an icing on the cake of an already amazing song. Anyone who is a die hard Floor Jansen/Nightwish fan is going to recognize that voice instantly.

every history teacher should show a Sabaton video in their class.not only is it great music, it always tells a story that can open up a discussion on a battle most people have never heard of. I’m 51 and I learn something about history that I did not know with every song and every video they do. the videography is impeccable

The christmas truce of 1914 is one of my favorite events in history ... i had family fighting for the germans during ww1 beforw they migrated to the united states and the stories ive heard from their kids about this night is truly heartwarming and heartbreaking my family members who fought in the war said that it was more of a somber night towards the end because the soldiers truly did not want to fight any longer but pawns do not have say in the queens movements ... truly sad for thoes who lost their lives during this terrible war and thoes who had to witness the atrocities of mankind

Basically, this reminded me the same message from Dire straits: "We're fools to make war On our brothers in arms"

When Joakim plays Carol of the Bells, you KNOW it's going to cause eyeball sweat!

I loved your sheer joy when you were able to confirm it was, indeed, Floor signing the end credits. And stunningly haunting and beautiful they are, too. I also feel it shows Floor's humility when she is obviously quite happy to have her name in the ending credits. Many's an artist would want their name given much more prominent billing. As for the video and performance, just what I expect from Sabaton. Quality, emotion, passion and stunning production. You weren't the only one moved to tears, Jen....

So one thing to keep in mind is that the western front in WWI was hundreds of miles long, so there were several different sections. These truces were sponatiously held in different sections and lasted from christmas night up to about 2 weeks. For the most part these took place between Germans and the British, since the French were actually fighting on their native soil, as France was invaded by Germany. Naturally they weren't so keen to fraternize with the very enemy that was invading their country. There were short truces between French and German troops on Christmas night and day though they were simply not shooting at each other. On other parts of the front the war kept on going throughout christmas. What mostly happened in the German-British sectors was this: This war was super surreal. Just months prior to this people in Europe were custom to travel and work or study abroad. Many Germans were working in Britains pubs as waitors for instance. When the war broke out they got enrolled in the Army and sooner than later they were fightng. The months prior to Christmas the war developed into the well known stalemate we know today. What made it worse was that conditions were terrible, as there was way more rain than usualy in these months. Eintire battlefields and trenches turned into muddy hellholes in which the burried dead were constantly washed into the open again and trenches were filled with water. Soldiers were not able to sleep properly in the trenches, as they were in danger of drowning. When Christmas came around it got cold and to the soldiers this was like a miracle. Finally the water froze and they were walking on solid ground after months of mud. They were tired and exhausted and wanted to rest. Now here in Germany we celebrate Christmas with our families on Christmas Eve. We fesat and give each other presents on the evening of 24th, so the Soliders started to open presents they recieved from their loved ones at home. Slowly and steadily this developed into an atmosphere of Christmas and the Germans started so sing Christmas carols like silent night (the original song is the German "Stille Nacht" which got adapted into english). When the British and Scotts in the other trenched started to hear it, they started to feel a similar desire for peace and to be with their loved ones. So they started to sing silent night as well. This turned into a "singing contest" to outsing the other side. Then the british started to joke around and shouted marry christmas across no-mans land, not expecting an answer. But as mentoned above, German troops were well educated and verse in English, as many of them had lived in Britain before, so they shouted back. Then some brave souls indeed ventured into the open with white flags or their arms in the air and the whole thing started. What is important to keep in mind is that this wasn't one big event, but a series of variing truces that happened spontaniously between the enlisted men.

This is the first time hearing sabaton and my god I got goosebumps all over, this is an absolutely stunning song, very appropriate for our Remembrance Sunday coming up this weekend, never forget those who fought for our country, for those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, great reaction Jen 👍 #LESTWEFORGET

The saddest part about this is that after this happened High Command on both sides moved soldiers around and ordered that soldiers cannot interact with the enemy. They did everything in their power to prevent another truce. Had they not done that the war would have been over so much quicker.

I get emotional every time i watch Christmas truce but with you i really cried 😍

I was a hardcore metalfan as a teenager and has always been interested in modern histhory. Now at 50+ i came across Sabaton, and the way they tell about different evennts in history (often WWI--WWII) is staggering. History that mustn't be forgotten.

Honestly, good music makes me just as emotional as you. Was a marine for over a decade and I still tear up like baby. You seem very genuine. I really like your reaction videos, too.

Don't ever be sorry for feeling your heart! Your reaction mirrored mine the first time I saw that video - I cried and smiled at the same time (my father was in WWII and he lost both a brother and a cousin over there so I understand how you feel about your father). It just makes me feel so sad and happy at the same time knowing the soldiers in 1914 took the time to remember how to be human and share a holiday with the "enemy". A stunning video...even setting the mood by evoking (although not the actual song) Carol of the Bells at the beginning. (It is a soundalike, something often done when you want to evoke the mood of a particular song without actually using it. Carol of the Bells starts G-F#-G-E, G-F#-G-E. On this he`s playing E-B-C-A, E-B-C-A.) And WHAT a touch to have Floor singing at the end!

My grandfather was on the eastern front in WW1.. I remember him briefly, he always told me about the incident on the western front at Christmas 1914. Said it would have killed him if there was a truce and they had to go back to fighting the next day.. 20 years after WW1, we has back at it against the Soviets and the Germans. He knew there would ever be a day of peace during the Second World War. He survived until 1989. When this song came out, I thought of him and bawled my eyes out at it. Him, his friends, his countrymen, my countrymen going through hell and pain. This song is such an incredible, emotion tribute to the one moment of peace the front lines ever had during the two most horrific times of any generation. Really want to just grab Sabaton and give them a massive hug for making such an impactful song

Absolutely brilliant. A true masterpiece in every respect. Sabaton is much the same as Nightwish, in that they use music to tell the story and they are so damn good at it that it hits you hard every time. It should come as no surprise that Hannes, their drummer is husband to Floor Jansen whose angelic and operatic voice you hear at the end. Every Sabaton piece is a history lesson. Indeed, lest we forget, as there are those who as we speak are trying to erase our history and separate us from our past, and to no good end. We cannot allow that to happen.

I can't stop crying every time I listen to this song. Sabaton should get an award for this song.

They are immensely talented and they are such an important band for today’s era. They are the modern day bards masterfully telling the epic stories of history and heroes through their incredible gift of music and artistic interpretation. Myself and my entire family are big fans and because of them, my kids know and honor the memories and incredible legacies of Audie Murphy, Bull Allen, Alvin York and the 82nd Airborne, Marina Raskova and the Night Witches, the bravery and heroics of the Polish Resistance Fighters in 40:1 and Uprising, the story of the brave 189 Swiss Guards who gave their lives to protect the Holy Line in 1527 in “The Last Stand”… the list goes on and on. And now we have “The Christmas Truce” and a new album in March. We can’t wait. 🙂🤘🏻❤️

Dear gods, this song is absolutely killing me. First time listening to it and I was in tears, doesn't happen often, even less often to music, but they made it. As for the English, yes, there were plenty of Germans even back then who spoke English, even having family ties to the UK. Soccer games also happened, and they even redid it, with army teams. Bundeswehr won at least once, so at least one "fight" Germany won. xD Joakim started actually as Piano player for Sabaton, so he can do it.

Too many other reactors skip the credits entirely - or fail to recognize just who they are hearing there. That said, a little above Floor in the credits there is another name you may want to check out. Antti Martikainen. He also has a youtube channel where he posts some pretty darn amazing music of his own.

I went down late in the day on the 24th, struck in the engine I could not press on. My crate nosed over into shell hole, I came to much later. I could do nothing but hide, the madness of no-mans land reigns terror on those caught in it. Darkness fell, and an eternity lay before me as I plotted my way out. But something happened that night, a soul deafening silence fell upon the front, followed soon by a single voice in song. Not believing what I was hearing, I peered over the mangled wings covering my hole. I saw a single man, standing above the trenches, hands behind his back, singing as though his humanity depended on it. It filled me with a chill the night and snow could not give. Then more of his comrades stood to join him, and they walked onward, slowly and un-armed. I heard a heavy Scottish voice say; "Are ye a'right lad?". A highlander with his pipes was standing aside my hole, his hand extended. Without a thought, I responded: "Shaken, but not dead." "It's Christmas, Lad. C'mon." I stood, and took his hand for help from the hole. Around me I saw what could be described as a wonderous occasion. Men of all sides stood in the desolation, talking in what tongues they knew as though there was no war. There was no hate, no blood, no malice, only cordial respect and humanity. I wondered then, what we were fighting these men for. It struck me then, that each of us had a job to do, but tonight we all refused to do that job and simply be human. The voices rose again in song, and the piper played as we walked to the gathering. I couldn't help but feel that there was hope for us afterall, that we are all the same, no matter our uniforms, our rifles, or our futures. Thank you for this reaction. This song made me cry too and I get goosebumps every time I hear it. Its an amazing video, song and story. Two of my grandads were in the trenches when these events happened, sadly both were killed in WW1 One of them wrote home about the events saying it was very surreal and heartwarming. There were French, Russian, Serbian (prob more) groups on the western front at that time also. The event was an impromptu series of truces right along the western front some lasting one, two or even 7 days. As you can imagine the generals on all sides weren’t happy about this and gave orders for it to stop. Soldiers were threatened with court martial or even death if they defied orders. Sadly the only victor in war is death. 😥😥 P.s. I’m going with my daughter and grandson to see them in Glasgow next March, can’t wait 💕🤗🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

It boggles the mind to think about the level of raw courage it took for that first man to climb out of the trenches into no man’s land…

I highly recommend you to see the movie "Joyeux Noël" from 2005 wich is a movie about the events that took place on christmas in 1914. I love the fact that this song is so powerful, you mentioned that your father served and you must be so proud of that. I myself was not allowed to serve due to loosing an eye, but my respect for those that did has never waned. I did manage to help our services in different ways (IT etc) but will never loose respect for those that were the real heroes.

Yup, Me to. This story always so inspired me and to see people remembering that this happened and WHY.

Arguably the best video EVER. Appreciate you went to the trouble of researching the material. It didn't end well. After the Truce there was disciplinary action. Officers promotions and leaves for the troops were canceled. Many of the troops were rotated out for fear they had lost their fighting spirit once they regained their humanity for each other.

My great uncle fought in WWII in the free french forces especially in the french 2nd Armoured Division that fought in Falaise Pocket, liberated Paris, fought in the Vosges at Dompaire, liberated Strasbourg, crossed the Siegfried line and was the first allied unit to reach the Eagle's Nest in Berchtesgaden. My great uncle was in a family of soldiers, his own father fought in WWI especially at Verdun.

This was incredible live at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville last Monday. Very emotional song, especially for Vets that have spent several Christmases deployed to Iraq/Afghanistan in the last 20 years. It sucks but being with your buddies makes it special and bearable🙏🏻🤘🏻

hi my grandpa was a german soldier at ww2 . he was captured by the allies (USA). The first thing he noticed was an american soldier in a sherman tank .
