+laclaude1234 Yeah and we never even had a decent hockey team. We have two or three teams in the whole country that compete few times a year. True story. :)
I always asked this question even as a kid: How is it possible that nobody in the entire crowd saw her make this save? They all stood up in suspense like "did she make the save?" And they only react when she drops the puck onto the ice. Well you didn't see it hit the back of the net, did you? Somebody out there had to see her make the save.
It is just a movie after all. If you really want to get into all that, there are so many illegal things that go on in these Mighty Ducks movies that would be called for penalties in normal hockey.
Well they did call Dwayne Robertson 2 minutes for roping :) I dunno, they def did illegal things that were called for penalties and the Ducks just didn't care because they were determined to be badasses and go nuts in the penalty box. But this is the climactic scene in the movie. You should have it make sense so it can't be torn apart so easily. With that said, I still love this movie. Great shootout, and great musical score.
***** Of course it would have counted either way. I just figured it would have been highly unlikely that a slapshot that hard would end up just dribbling across the goal line softly. It's either getting saved, hitting the post/crossbar, or it's hitting the back of the net. And that's why I used that expression.
CrackaCarpinda if you undertsand cinematography at all younwould know that thats supposed to be a split second delay shot. We get to see the crowd 2 seconds ago. Because we the audience know that she saved it and eventually in 2 seconds so will the crowd thats why we see GUNNAR stop before makimg the shot as to silence the crowd because when we see the audience thre is no crowd roar, in real person he wouldnt have stopped it makes no sense but in a movie were your building suspeneful emotion and adding creative sequence you need a CONTINUITY..
Sherlock Holmes cinematography needs to make sense though. I can see your logic but it doesn't work here because there's absolutely no reason why both the hockey audience and the film viewers can't determine right away that it wasn't a goal. They would've seen it as soon as we did since nothing touched the net. The cheer would've been near instantaneous. A cinematic pause doesn't work in this context. It just looks stupid
@@joeberger3441 if it needs to make sense then the entire franchise would not exist and also wouldn't be that good. Defenders jumping out of the way of knuckle puck, 2 hockey teams at a college, players switching uniforms, flying v formation? Cmon dude lol
Gunnar Stahl is supposed to be one of the best younger players in the world and his move is a slap shot from the blue line? A statue could make that save.
More like just outside the hashmarks and ironically, slapshots have been used with some success in NHL shootouts. But yea it's weird how she had to count down his "deke" but then he stops and tees it up wtf was that.
When a team captain has more honor than the coach, then you know the makings of a great leader. Gunner likely had great success in life, even if not hockey. I've coached rugby before & always treated kids with good character, respect & sportsmanship like we were all in it together. Yielded some great results.
@@sbarrow06 because Wolf (the coach) cared more about just winning than accepting good sportsmanship and acknowledging that his team lost because it was all about him and his ego pride. He didn't really care for his players, he just cared about himself.
I watched the first one at the cinema in Australia. It's what got me into skating in general. After this me and friends would skate through public places pretty much the beginning of #2
I like the parallel between Gordon and Riley, and Gunnar and Stansson. Gordon was too young to defend himself against Riley's abusive guilt trip, but Gunnar was older and was having none of it from Stansson.
+Charlie Kelly I think I remember that they said Goldberg had a better stick side, but Gunnar is the type of player to go glove side, so that's why she was put in for this situation.
The commentator was right about Bombay putting in a cold goal tender to save the shot. Going up to Gunnar and saying "Nice try" to rub salt in the wound...that was cold, colder than the ice they were skating on.
Every time this movie comes on I quote (as I can most of the movie..) "Gunnar.. you lost it for me." "You lost if for yourself. Let's go shake their hands." Great movie. :)
In disgust of his native Iceland and humbled by Julie "The Cat" Gaffney, Gunnar Stahl then defected into the U.S.A; he changed his name to Scott "Scooter" Holland and enrolled at the Eden Hall Academy. From there he rose to prominence now starting goaltender himself on the Eden Hall Warriors Varsity ice hockey team. In an epic grudge match between the school's Varsity and Freshmen's team, Scott allowed a single game winning goal made by Greg Goldberg in the final moments of the 3rd period. Ever still the good sportsman, he congratulated Julie and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
I love the movie but now that ive seen real hockey..why does he shoot from that far away in a penalty shot..and what's the point of counting if he's going to stop n wait before the shot lol
I liked when Gunnar said "You lost it for yourself." to Wulf before he wanted to have his team join him to shake the Ducks' hands for their hard-earned victory, and for a hell of a game.
That's the essence of good sportsman ship right there. And it seems like it actually struck something in Stansson, seeing as he went to shake Gordon's hand after (despite having been an irredeemable prick the entire movie).
Brad Morgan The Trinidad team had an amazing uniform though, and when they scored a goal, the Carribean music they played!!!!!!!!!!!!! Imagine if they'd made it to the final, how epic the music would've been after each goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No it wasn't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hockey pucks are small, and the goal lights/sirens might've been broken by the velocity of the shot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So shut up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Imagine Gunnar Stahl actually said “Let’s go shake their Honz” and the next scene is team Iceland just legitimately hoisting Honz up in the stands and shaking him.
I wont say the most epic, but it definitely is top 5. And i luv how even though Bombay told her glove side, you can clearly see she was ready for stick side just incase. She was ready for anything..

Totally had a Gunnar Stahl moment last night in our intramural floor hockey playoffs. I was the leading scorer on the team, and we went into a shootout. Down 2-1 as the final shooter, I f'd up. Ironically we were playing a team called "The Mighty Ducks".
I love how at the end Gunner says "Let's go shake their hands" like an actual athlete. That's how you actually show your respect for your competitors and how you respect them.
I thought it was so sweet that Gunnar Stahl was part of the reunion they had a few years ago. He came out in the third one too as another character. So it was only fair that he was part of the reunion as well.
That's not a triple deke, the goal Charlie scores at the end of the first movie to win the final game is this particular move, this guy stops so far away from the goal, but still the pause is effective in the suspense of the movie
Does anyone else think Gunnar Stahl kind of steals this scene? 1:36 His reaction is really good without even saying anything until his epic line to Stannson.
Also, love the look on Wolf Stansson's face at the end after Gunner tells him off and says "let's go shake their hands". It looks like he's thinking "Well, I deserved that."
He may very well have been, since afterward he shakes Gordon's hand, like he's thinking "Y'know, Gunner's right. I've been a shit of a sport so far, but let's end this with some humility."
I suppose since it would be more difficult to score on the glove side that would be why it would be considered fancy, but then again I don't know much about hockey.
Dpal93 I've been playing hockey since I was 6 years old (I'm now 21) and Id say it's equally difficult to shoot either side. Going glove side is definitely not known as a fancy move in hockey as they make it out to be.
I play softball quite often and at the end of each game the teams usually line up and give high 5's. I always yell "Let's go shake their hands" like Gunner, but no one gets it :(
That choice was done on purpose, apparently. The big ice hockey competitors to the US are/were Canada and Russia, and Steven Brill (who wrote the scripts) didn't want to risk "getting political" by using the latter. Instead he chose a "stock country with a Nordic mystique" that not a lot of people were familiar with. This of course raises another question - why not go with Sweden, which apparently IS an ice hockey powerhouse?
"I know this kids move, triple deke glove side, he's fancy he'll go glove." Stick handles 3 times, stops at the top of the circle, and takes a stand still clapper right to the mit lmao so fancy. Poor Goldberg must have died a little inside to see that he got replaced just for that.
Imagine being surprised when you glide in on a breakaway, make no deke, stop literally entirely and take a butterfly shot into the easiest glove save of a little girls life.
The first thing my dad taught me to do after learning how to walk was to learn how to skate. Not only was he my dad but he was my coach and he coached me all the way from mites to bantams. My dad reminds me of bombay the way he brought our team together as a family. I remember he would one time he brought the whole team to the mall and we all had our jerseys on and roller blades and pretty much felt like the mighty ducks. I will keep playing hockey till the day i die as i played since i was born
>Tiple Deke glove side >stops at the top of the circles to take a slapshot you know the writers / producer or whoever has no clue about hockey when this happens
Those movies were great when I was a kid. I think I'll watch them all again now after seeing this... I don't think I'll be disappointed. Great series....... but definitely not anywhere near the most epic scene of all time.
And now the Dutch football team are doing this. Bringing on a cold goalkeeper (Krul) in the penalty shoot out against Costa Rica at the World Cup last night! And they won!!
They obviously should've been facing team Canada in the finals, except the Canadians wouldn't make realistic villains. Team USA beating Canada also wouldn't have been realistic lol so I guess that's why they went with Iceland
I wondered when I was younger.....they made Iceland into this Soviet evil team like Russia or Ukraine or something! I found it weird to make "Iceland" the enemy! Maybe the obscurity of Iceland in American audiences is what made Iceland the "villain" in this movie! lol
Bilal C I remember thinking that as well, and I think you're right. I don't believe I'd even heard of Iceland when I saw this film as a kid, so the fact that it was some obscure place meant they had to be bad guys right?
"Team USA beating Canada also wouldn't have been realistic lol" Well, two years after this film came out, USA defeated Canada in the final game of the 1996 Hockey World Cup. :) Unless you're referring to the actual Team USA from this movie, then yeah, they would have gotten their asses handed to them by the Canadian team.
All you anti-Americans need to stop hating on this truly patriotic moment, every bit as good as the US upsetting the Russians in the 1980 Olympic semis.
To this day i cant thank my dad and mom enough for getting me into hockey at 3 years old and having the privilege of my dad being my coach for every single team i was on. Mighty ducks has always been my favorite movie and will still be my favorite movie for the rest of my life cause just like everyone else here i eat, sleep and breath hockey!
I get it, they try to build suspense and all that but come on! Either it's in the goal or it isn't. It's hilarious actually to see everyone's faces like "Did she caught it?"
