Karen, this didn't pop up in my notifications until today and the second I saw it I was captivated by the image of the painting. What a fantastic tutorial using such a limited palette to create a really atmospheric landscape. Can't wait to give it a whirl. The late, great Ron Ranson used his finger nails to great effect in many of his paintings 🙂Thank you so much as always.

Majestic effects by keeping it simple, but also paying attention to those classic methods of: wet into wet, damp into wet, damp into damp and wet into dry. I'm finding that using more muted colours also helps with creating more atmosphere. It's hard for me though, because I can be a bit over the top with my colours. This approach here will definitely be one I'll be trying TODAY! This video is so helpful to me, as I'm still in the stage of being too heavy with the paint, often using too many brushstrokes and not really getting the best our of watercolour with its transparency and white of the paper here and there. Occasionally, I do manage it pull it off, so it's not that I can't paint that way. I think I get too carried away at times and probably need to step back more often and learn when to stop!

I notice you use both hot and cold pressed paper in your paintings. How do you decide which to use?
@KarenRiceArt
@KarenRiceArt 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for your question Jean. I mostly use cold press paper. However, I do love to use hot press paper, especially when I’m painting line and wash, detailed flowers, and some of my apps tracks. The paint tends to flow better, especially when using the plastic card.
