Is amazing seeing such a difference in styles between this and Mick Hill. You've got Mick's methodical, inch perfect cue ball control never running out of position, then Chris's shotmaking ability and commanding the cue ball around the table to wherever he wants, it doesn't even matter if he runs out of position. Flawless Vs Flashy. Love it.

Going thinner @ 6:44 I think Chris is compensating for the "Squeeze Effect". This is when playing a cut, you need to play thinner that the "Ghost Ball" method contact point, to compensate for object ball throw sending the object ball slightly more in the direction the cueball is travelling when the cue ball is approaching the object ball.

Man, these pros always end up with such better layouts than I get in actual games. I watch these videos thinking I've learnt something then I go play and my layouts are always like 4 balls on the rails and like 3 clusters to break up all in the same rack. It's ridiculous :\ Guess it's all due to the break. I don't remember playing a rack where I didn't have at least 3 balls glued to the long rails.

I actually think Chris’s patterns combined with shot making is more accessible to me than Micks flawless positional play. Playing more in Chris’s style but without his exceptional potting ability I might be able to clear say 20-30% of the time. I know I simply wouldn’t be able to emulate MIcks play and have to rely on a bit of luck so down to 10 per cent.

The reason you go that little bit further than you think on your cut shots is to counter the effects of “cut induced throw”. The same reason why a lot of people add a trace of running side on cut shots.

I feel vindicated! When I take a shot; I line up, walk into the shot, aim, and then I adjust to hit the white a little bit thinner. The fact that Chris Melling, one of the greatest players ever to play the game does the same thing has absolutely made my day. I have been critisised for it and that has always stuck with me. Well no.. sod that.. now this video will stick with me... Nice one Chris. [EDIT]... I have a lazy (rubbish) right eye. I wonder if Chris has the same? I've always thought that was the reason.
@dhirajpallin2572
@dhirajpallin2572 Год назад
I doubt it's due to a vision problem, because if that were the case, it would probably be uneven, i.e. more prone to happen when shooting left vs shooting right. It's funny, I tend to miss shots too thin when I miss, almost never too thick.

There is good and bad in this video. The good part is that you know how to play patterns with no pressure. if you can process all 8 patterns in less than 30 seconds well good for you. The bad part is that this is a pro concept of playing patterns and that concept only take place in championships/tournaments/play for money. In these high-pressure conditions your more likely to make a mistake, your nerves are acting up, and your emotions are being challenged. It takes enormously hard work to suppress those elements that can affect you in high-pressure situations.
