Flip flops at the sawmill. Check. Smoking at the sawmill. Check. Dude pushing the slide into the blade while smoking and wearing flip flops.....priceless.
Once that tree was squared up the remaining beam was majestic and super valuable. I do not believe that I would have continued cutting plank wood from it. Yes, the planks are very valuable I know, but not so much as a huge beam.
The biggest money would be if they could slice veneer from the heartwood. Sadly those rural hand mills aren't equipped to run sliced veneer (no saw kerf).
What they are doing is cutting all the sapwood off the four sides as they Square it up which is the bark and the yellow sap wood ,,,what's left is the heart wood/ dark wood which is the most expensive... as you go into the center of the log or Timber there is no knots from tree limbs which causes the heart of the wood to become clear and more expensive as you go to the center.... it is what they call an A grade as you go outward from the center cut it becomes B grade because you pick up a couple of knots here and there small knots from limbs and then of course further out towards the bark you get what they call Yellowwood or commonly known as sapwood or aye grade which is basically a construction grade once you remove the bark/ cutting it to size...
When you're in this business you don't cut at all unless it's to fill an order. And the lumber they cut is more than likely paid for already. But I do see your point. Beams are highly valuable when needed. But you got to cut for the customer.
@@dalesammann236 the quality of the wood, the wood fiber, the way each cut comes out, I had the opportunity to learn wood cabinets making, I studied it for three years and can tell the way you guys cut that tree trunk was outstanding, each section of the cut looks impressive , I just imagine a wood cabinet made out of it would have an impressive value in today's market, most kind of you and each one that one way or another made it possible and share it with us, would it be possible to see a cabinet or a piece of furniture made out of it? from the endless summer paradise Puerto Rico, Jesús Torres.
@@brightman2011 I think that’s the sawdust sticking to the log, dirty saw blade etc. The big hole is probably a kind of bug that was nesting in the tree, ants have a habit of doing that
I've watched 5 of these videos and I still yell "WEAR SOME DAMN GOGGLES MR SQUINTING WHILE NEAR THE BLADE GUY!!!" The hanging cigarette from mouth thing is just the cherry on top.

Fascinating video! Good to see everyone has all of their fingers and toes. Careful, efficient crew. Automation would be tough in the jungle with heat & humidity. Controls really dislike that.
JANGAN HANYA DI TEBANG KEMBALIKAN HUTAN MENJADI HUTAN BELAMTARA KAYA ZAMAN BELA.NDA,,,PASTI TIDAK ADA BANJIR BANDANG YANG MERUGIKAN RAKYAT. .( HIJAUKAN KEMBALI HITAN KITA ).
That makes absolutely no sense..... planks and boards will allow more of it's beauty to be seen, you get less lumber with beams. I'm sure they do some slabs too for tables and such
@@jameswulzen590 You wouldn't find barefoot workers without safety gear in civilized nations. I would bet none of them even heard about OSHA where they are.
Fantastic! I was truly impressed by the detail in this video. Seeing those huge logs being cut so precisely is captivating. The clarity of this video is excellent. I can't wait to see more of your content. Continue sharing these wonderful videos!
@@jameswulzen590 You are blessed if you live in a country where you can be fussy about working conditions. These people are satisfied with a lot less than than people from most other countries are. May they be blessed for their efforts.
@@rogershapland5042 You are right sir. People in america wonder why illegals flock to our borders it's because of the large amount of jobs available in this country that milch toast namby pamby Americans won't do anymore. These hard working folks in this video wouldn't have it any other way. They live longer healthier lives than the majority of westernized softies do. Even with smoking the strenuous work they do compensates for it and they don't sweat the small stuff. I've worked in sawmills. There's nothing like hard work to keep you healthy. And I have smoked 2 packs a day for 50 years. And drank for about 40 HEAVILY. My doctors tell me my lungs, kidneys and liver are the best things I have left.
@@rogershapland5042you're speaking for them are you? I'm sure you know lots of Indonesian farmers. 🙄 Guess what, people have the internet now and know how shitty their working conditions are. 1 x 6 x 8 inch rough sawn board from the heartwood would cost me $80.00 Canadian here in BC Canada. These fellas probably make that in a week as wages. Pretty sad eh.

How about protecting human life and limb as a priority instead of crying like an infant over a tree. Trees regrow, once a human dies he/she does not return to life.

The head sawyer needs some lessons in sawing for grade. Any idea why they nail a cleat on the end of each 1x ? Maybe to keep it from checking as it dries?
the sawyer is following a standard procedure, which is to cut "around the log", and thus generate the greatest amount of material; it looks like he is cutting flat-cut "4/4" ("four-quarter", 1" thick) material, which will be "graded", based upon dimensions/clear yield; with virtually no knots/defects, most of this lumber should pass, as top-grade, "FAS" lumber....
