Many on here just don't seem to understand these types of workstation laptops are not geared for the average consumer. They are meant to be used for CAD or scientific programs. All the workstation configurations are certified to use different CAD programs. CAD programs can easily exceed the cost of these machines. You are also paying for 1) system stability and 2) business class support. You will talk with a live person based in the US. They'll try to diagnose issues over phone first, but if it can't be fixed they'll have next business day visit. If the part is no longer available they'll upgrade the entire workstation. So think, you are paying $10-15k for a single license CAD program, you are paying a user $100-130k a year, $6500 workstation laptop that will be used for 3-5 years is nothing for a company. These are tools and not show pieces.

HP Z-Book have always been super expensive, even more than Lenovo and Dell comparable offerings. These are for a specific category of pros whose company will pay for this and probably in bulk at a discounted price. And these workstation laptops usually come with at least 3 years of on-site next business day warranty, something you do not get with usual consumer or gaming laptops: it can save your ass if each day without a working laptop is making you lose lots of money. These workstation laptops are often designed conservatively regarding performance, to limit noise and heat (it can be tweaked). But they are also designed (and tested) to support heavy processing for hours or even days.

If you downtime is worth more than this 6k device and it fits you needs - go for it. Expensive workstations are a combination of performance, reliability and most importantly - SUPPORT, if things go bad. Yes, it won't perform as good as any gaming laptop, mainly because the parts are clocked LOWER because they're tuned for reliability. The Quadro cards are clocked lower than their Geforce RTX counterparts (counterparts as in the same core), Xeons are usually clocked slightly lower than their I7\I9 counterparts (no core model here, but top spec Xeon is usually slower than top spec I9), memory is always in spec, so no overclocking for you buddy, even if the that thing doesn't thermal throttle - it's great, but you aren't going to make use of that thermal gap, if you wanted overclocking you should have went with whatever gaming laptops they have. And the most crucial thing besides aiming towards reliability is support - these things usually come with GREAT suppor. They are getting updates constantly - even when they're out of warranty! My Precision 7510 is 5 years old now and it's still getting firmware updates, even when it's 1-2 years after it's warranty expired. When I had issues with it, a technician came to my house and replaced the motherboard - the next day I called Dell. And this is where Dell gets their money from, from businesses, because usually their support is dog shit. It's not just the product, it's the the whole package. Oh, and you don't have to spec it so high, I got my Precision from an outlet, it had top specs (best Quadro they could offer, 32GB of ram, a Xeon processor), and that thing was $2k with a 4 year onsite warranty. I still use it to this day, it's a great laptop to program on. I'd rather put $3k on a business\workstation laptop than $2k on their rgb infested lineup (like Alienware) so I don't find myself waiting for a foreign call center to assist me with their 'Cinebench beast'.., but at $6k it's quite of a niche product.

You keep identifying this machine as a "laptop". This suggest it is a consumer-type notebook. And while it has a form factor of a laptop, it is NOT A CONSUMER-TYPE product. It is a WORKSTATION laid-out and packaged in laptop form factor. Next time, refer to these type of machines as portable or mobile workstations. This clearifies the targetted audience and does justice to the product and explains the higher price point.

I am still not exactly sure why it costs that much. From what I saw in this video, the performance of this machine is terrible for the cost even in the workflow that it is meant for. The only difference is that it has good support and good QA. I guess the kind of support they receive is specific to the software that this laptop is meant for. So you can ask them really specific things about those software and get quick, reliable answers.

I just ordered mine today as an upgrade to my zbook 15 g5. My use case involves enterprise software (Particularly Oracle FMW based VMs ranging from ADF, SOA Suite, BPM and Forms as customer environment replicas) and platform development (Enterprise Application Containerization, Kubernetes Ingress, Daemon Sets and Operators development on a minimal cluster with monitoring setup that involves NoSQL or time-series databases along with Stateful sets that require a pseudo-storage server ). Speaking for the 15" model (Current one that I am replacing had 8750h - 80 GB memory and 3 tb nvme + 4tb AHCI SSD storage), outside of the mobile workstations of this caliber where only zbook has the parts access with great modularity there is no other notebook option that has 4 memory slots. Now, I had to go for the A3000 instead of the A2000 due to the vapor chamber being available with the prior and higher models as the only issue I had with my previous one was getting BSODs due to overheating when driving a 4k and an fhd monitor while the machine had 70% CPU load which I forced me to plug-out the monitors to not have gpu pumping additional heat.

There are far more expensive laptops for content creators, the 10k Asus ProArt laptop comes to mind. Anyway, nice effort, decent laptop with a reasonable price, considering all the security/ugradability/service provided and so on. I recently bought a ThinkPad T15g Gen 2 which is best suited for my needs and I don't even use the touchpad, most users preffer the thumbstick (don't really know what it's called), once you become used to it.

When it's working its fanatics and I love it. Yes, you can get workstation laptops from HP with RTX cards but there are only in custom build orders so shipping them takes a very long time like a couple of months plus. which in my option is not worth the wait. by the time you would get HP Zbook G8 with Geforce RTX card. Intel 12 gen and new Nvidia GPU and new AMD CPU and GPU are going to be in laptops already. So if you are only looking for RTX cards in HP Zbook g8 it's not worth the wait at all.

Port placement on this machine is quite inconvenient. All the display ports & Power input should be on the right side or at the back of the laptop like Lenovo. These cables are thick and have higher bending radius in the beginning. Assuming almost all of the people use mouse with their right hand, this causes a slight interruption on the right side. I would prefer all the cable mess on the left/back side and two USB A ports on the right side, where I can plug my wireless dongles. One USB port on left side would be good too for the wired headphones. In a typical office scenario, this would be useful.

I have this laptop...and I HATE IT. All my other laptops and MacBooks Pro uses USB-C charger to charge. Not this Z book. It needs 120 w to charge on USB-C. A catastrophe for me. It should be my go to laptop, but I don't use it. I received it from my work, but use my old laptop instead.

It's all down to the certifications for really really high end CAD programs. Stuff like Siemens Unigraphics and the like. The software costs to run that program in an organisation are massive compared to the cost of hardware certified to run that software. This is the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software used by the Aero industry and Automotive and Subsea Oil extraction equipment. Extremely high cost product elite engineering companies. The software is certified to run correctly on certain hardware and the cost of certification is very high so any addition of hardware has to undergo the same exhaustive testing that the drivers for the new piece of hardware is not going to destabilise the system. Laptops even workstation laptops are a total outlier for these companies. 99% of design engineers will be using Dual or quad Xeon Workstations with the top end Quadro GFX and silly amounts of ram and storage driving massive monitors. When I left the oil services company I worked for the total cost of a workstation for one of these guys was well over £12,000 not including software costs. It sounds a lot but these workstations are truly at 100% performance all day everyday and sometime 24/7 if the contract is time critical. They are crazy over-engineered workstations. I have nothing but respect for HP's workstation division having worked on them since they were PA-Risc machines back in the 2000s. Buying a workstation laptop and not using it for a certified software product is a waste of money. That's what you are paying for. Luv and Peace.

OK To be fair he got to it eventually. He did put it out there that this is not a RU-vid Creator laptop (though it would be very good at that.) Bottom line is it's very specific laptop for a very limited workspace. Expensive but in these sorts of environments you can't tolerate any failures. Luv and Peace.

I work as a computer vision engineer just to say that I need the likes of that quadro card but frankly, that thing is not even worth it. I can't even see a use case for it aside from wasting money, using the cloud is a lot cheaper and building your own desktop will be cheaper/more powerful so it is stuck in this weird place between useless and expensive. I wouldn't buy it or recommend it to anyone.

Its a professional-grade money making machine It is natural that anything of this kind is extremely expensive It uses server-class cpus and gpus iirc with server-class security and management features This isnt cheap and this alone adds several hundred dollars Plus its built like a tank, it has better after sales support than average consumer laptop, it most probably goes through more testing and QC than average consumer laptop And ultimately corporations buy things like these. $10000 for something used for 5 years is nothing compared to cost of CAD/scientific/professional programs, salaries of people, etc.
