Dude, I remember holding a copy of Blood Will Tell at my local Electronic Boutique, trying to decide if I should buy it. The store owner pulled out a GamePro magazine with a review of the game that the author titled "Crap Will Tell", so I decided not to buy it. I never realized this game is a whole lot more than what the reviewer let on.

A year and a half ago a friend of mine was streaming this game on Twitch, trying to defeat all 48 fiends. At some point he was to confront the butterfly fiend in the bamboo forest, and he also allowed for the stream to have song recommendations to play during gameplay. I suggested Smoking Roll for God Hand. He did not know what Smoking Roll sounded like. My friend was taken aback and sounded like he was tearing up amidst pained laughing when such an awesome design was contrasted against such a goofy song.

This channel and overall concept of reviewing (every?) ps2 action game is so fricking good. The PS2 feels like the last mainline console that had these kind of experimental, 'out there' action games. Looking forward to Musashi Samurai Legend, Skellington May Cry, so many others. Does Rise to Honor count as an action game @Cvit ? 90% of the combat is just hitting the right stick. Also you can play as a headless, roast duck with a code after you finish the game.

I was actually waiting for this game to pop up in your reviews! Probably one of the only games you're reviewing that i actually played, as this genre of gameplay just wasn't something my family ever got into growing up. I have very mixed feelings about this game, since at times actually playing through it felt like i was constantly dragging my legs through broken glass(the final boss especially), but everything else about it stuck with me for well over a decade. "Back to the darkness" and "Away with you!" are phrases i still regularly think about saying! For a genre i had no experience with and a story i had no idea of this game will always hold a special place in my heart, i sincerely hope this game gets a remake in the future. Blood will Tell deserves it.

I think I was able to land the 48 slash combo vs Behemoth fair and square, but holy shit, what a curveball to throw at you at the very end. The only other game I can think of that does something similar is Alter Echo (please tell me you're planning to review it eventually), which forces you to nail the longest time-freeze timing puzzle in the game to deal the final blow. Also, every once in a while the button prompt randomizer glitches out and just gives you multiples of the same button over and and over. If you get lucky with one of these jackpots on the Behemoth, even a 80+ hit combo wouldn't be out of the question lol.

Sweet psychically malleable alien matter, Alter Echo. Good name to throw out there. That one's definitely a game worth talking about in some depth. Oni too. And perhaps Zeno Clash. And surprisingly, Kya: Dark Lineage. That one has surprisingly in-depth combat for a 3D platformer title. Alter Echo had interesting ideas with the transformations, like hopping onto an enemy in the Stealth form and then swapping to Human or Gunner form, to lead into either a grab for the Human form or the enemy's head being stuck in the gun barrel for the Gunner form. From what i remember, combat did feel good enough. But i kinda lost interest after the first fight with Paavo, if i remember correctly.

Acidic bioslime aesthetic, dope-ass trance soundtrack, and probably most expertly crafted difficulty curve I think I've ever seen in a game. The way it constantly mixes up the enemy waves to force you to juggle through the transformations and make use of every ability in your arsenal is just *chef's kiss.* There was a point where I was getting worn down to my last sliver of health, not nearly enough to handle the next wave of enemies, until I suddenly remembered that the chameleon form has the cloak ability, which I completely neglected to use in combat up to this point, and which was just enough for me to do a mad dash across the arena undetected and pull off a stealth takedown at the last second. Cherish those memories well. Perhaps I ought to replay it sometime and try to continue on. It's a tough one from what i remember. Here's to hoping that Alter Echo may return some day. If not as a remaster or remake, then as inspiration for others. The "Acidic Bioslime" style as you call it can have potential for a lot of very cool stuff, as well as the in-game lore of there being essentially psychics perfectly attuned with plast as it was called, to basically create anything out of. The thing I hate about being a gamer in this day and age is that many "rare" games aren't actually rare or, at the very least, not as rare as people hype them up to be. The reality is that most "rare" games are trapped behind astronomically inflated prices or horded by resellers and collectors. Currently as I write this, there are: 23 copies of the US version of Blood Will Tell, 14 copies of Kuon, and 20 copies of Rule of Rose, on the Bay and most of them are complete. I hate to say it, but youtubers (not you) over hype rarity of games and are a large reason the gaming market is messed up. I can guarantee if people didn't talk about or over hype the rarity of games and just simply talked about the game itself (gameplay, graphics, design, development, controls, etc.), the prices wouldn't be nearly as high as they are today. Over hyping rarity creates false demand and makes the resellers and flippers buy up all the inventory, an example of this would be like what happened with the NES an SNES Mini consoles. Nintendo scared people into thinking it was more rare than it was and people were buying up as many as they could and trying to flip them for a higher price online. This caused stores to be constantly sold out, but there was plenty online for about 2X - 4X the price.

For years all I had was a memory of watching my dad play the first level of this game, then I found it and was able to watch the whole thing on RU-vid. A pretty cool game, wish I got to play it.

oh I remember this game from my childhood, great game. I remember getting all body parts 🤣 Im proud that I did beat it when I was a youngster, watching you play tells me that the game is no joke. I was shocked when I started watching dororo I was telling my brother and friends that I played a game that I loved with the same concept not knowing it was legendary manga

Wow, good thing there are others who enjoy playing such games and making videos about them because I surely would've given up on ever finishing them.

Because I might be from your génération (late 80's) I do understand and can feel perfectly what you mean by all of this and I also agree 💯 Ps2 was our golden era as kid. We had time to experience the évolution of this kinda game almost from 0. And it was such a fantastic aventure, wasnt it ? +1 sub mate, keep going🔥 Games are a part of our childhood and even influenced our personalities for some of us 🫡

I'm one of those guys who actually found it in a bargain bin shortly after release still have mine and it's my favorite ps2 game and I doubt I'm ever going to sell my copy still in perfect condition😂. Also the slashes all have paterns there are about 4 or 5 combination that start over at 25 slashes once you memorize them it's easy to get into a rythem

I wish I knew about this game years ago when it came out back in 2004. I would've enjoyed this game a lot. Makes me want to go back and play my PS2 now.

I was a fan of both Dororo and Blade of the Immortal at the time this game came out, so it was an instant buy. I really enjoy the game, but I wish the "I can save the game here" voice clip would have ended after the first level.

I saw the thumbnail and thought there was a Blade of the Immortal game. On closer inspection, it looks like Samura just did the art for this. Nice.

Omg I wish I still had my copy. Found it for 10 bucks back in 07. Absolutely love this game, my #1 PS2 game. This 100% felt like I was playing through an Anime. So many PS2 games had that feel before the copy and paste arena fighter era took over
