The Raiding of Iceland was a historic event where Barbary pirates captured the island for a few years and gave it to the ottomans. I don't know why Morocco has the decision though.
From what i have read they never captured iceland, cant find that, they did take about 400 people. The reason why Morocco has it is probebly because the first pirates was from Morocco and the second was from algeria. It was Northwest africans working for ottomans.
@@huginmunin8253 The pirates may have used North Africa as a base but most of the pirates themselves were actually European converts. The ones that attacked Iceland were actually primarily English.
@@khansahb8 i dont know about all people in the raids since most sources point out leader/s and the main leader from a Moroccon part was dutch that converted after being captured by moorish people. In algeria majority of the people called turks was european converts i think, other then that they basicly called everyone in ottoman empire in mediterranean for "turks".
10:15 "why do they have so few troops". Well laith, you stack wiped a 24k stack right at the beginning of the war. Castille only had around 10-20k troop buffer at this point in the game. With that stack wipe, you destroyed any hope of them fielding a decent military aaaaand removed any hope of reconquista.
@@mlgdigimon Actually, the term 'Barbary Pirates' comes from the Barbary Coast, which comes from from the word Berber, meaning the Barbary Coast would be interchangeable with Berber Coast, so no, the term 'Berber Pirates' would be correct
actually laith, you did do the math correctly, but as you cored provinces your maximum manpower increased, that's why the discrepancy, you had looked at the correct number before, it just changed
Morocco was not the first nation I played, nor was it the first nation I played in multiplayer. But it was my favorite. It was a larger organized game (~16 players) and I managed to make a truly memeworthy trade with Denmark to secure Gotland so I could raid the Baltic, which was just wonderful. The PLC was annoyed with me, but didn't have the navy to take Gotland. Muscovy->Russia was similar, Sweden was more or less irrelevant, etc. I managed to diplo my way into reforming Al Andalus (gank on Castile and a trade with Aragon, then betrayal of Aragon), colonize a good portion of South America, Hispanola, the Leeward Islands and some of Indonesia. Took most of West Africa, secured my hold in Iberia (basically split it with Portugal with the intent to betray them later) and France, which was great until the French player I had done the diplo with left, aaaaaand... another bellicose one joined. Took some Mediterranean islands, but did some diplo with the absolute cursed nation that was Austria who culture converted to Venetian to form Italy (don't ask) and more or less split the Med with him. Made nice with an Arabia player and the horror that was the Austro-Italian Empire to help fight the PLC, who had done some good diplo up to that point, but was kinda just breaking deals and throwing his weight around because he was the strongest player on the map at that point. The major world war was most of Europe vs. PLC and his little goon squad. I was only really there because 1, just wanted to ensure the meme that was Andalusian Gotland remained, and 2, because he had supported my enemies in a prior war because... I honestly don't know. Maybe he was bored? Maybe Gotland just *really* pissed him off? I couldn't even raid anymore, so it wasn't like it was horrible for him to not have it. Anyways, the war was long and bloody, but we won! Aaaaaand the game just sorta died after that. There was some drama going on behind the scenes, and I think the host just wanted to start things on a clean slate. Was a really fun game. Not in the server anymore, people started getting *really* combative about some petty stuff in there (apparently me saying I liked Medieval 2 better than Three Kingdoms was like... an insult to this person's bloodline), but that is a very fond memory.
I feel similar for Morocco as you do for Tunis, it was one of if not the first nation(s) I played and it's extremely fun, it's really good for colonizing early game and if you annex Talifat you can colonize the province south and conquer all of West Africa early on
Laith, in case you ever read this: please normalize your voice's audio channel's volume. You really go from speaking quietly to grandly announcing something from time to time and maybe it's just me with sensitive ears, but I think your channel is where I notice it the most. Maybe it's a symptom of a very nice mic. Otherwise, I've been liking Morocco a lot since the world cup (lol), so it's nice to see you playing as them.
After an incredibly annoying rereconquista as Granada, doing a full Morocco into West African conquests into forming Andalusia felt incredibly powerful
Pro tip: When playing in the Maghreb, Conquer ports till you reach the English Channel and at least Denmark. Raiding those ports will make you rich. I've raided around 300 ducats per button click while being Tunis>>Andalusia.
Hey @TheSocialStreamers I think one thing I really like about your videos is your setup. The audio quality is great and same with the green screen to cut out your background. How do you have your audio setup for recording? I'm currently using Nvidia broadcast (to cut out keyboard and mouse noises) with Voicemeeter and I'm using a Neewer microphone. Any suggestions to get the audio quality sounding as good as yours?
The algorithm demands sacrifice. But if you are really fun starved try playing Redglades in the Anbennar mod. No flavour whatsoever, but difficult starts are the most fun starts in eu4.
Morocco is a solid nation - if - you can beat the Iberians early. There are several good guides on Morocco including Viktor Vildras', Ludi's and I believe Red Hawk has an older one as well. Keep going as Morocco to get West African. A few solid vassals down there will save on the coring costs and allow you to get most of the trade, then form Andalusia and eat up Tunisia, then back to Iberia. You know the score: spread your AE between religions, regions and cultures. 🙂
Icelanders were actually in the Ottoman/North African slave trade in the early 17th century so that's probably where the Raid on Iceland mission comes from

It is day 56 of asking you to do Croatia challenge in VIC3 (Become free from the rule of austria - then you cannot ally them, russians, serbians, ottomans and montenegro, you also cannot trade with them (embargo them and rival them). First form Yugoslavia restore old borders from that country then form Danubian state, all while staying monarchy thats the set of rules you must follow.
i literally just did a morocco game and got bored of being morocco but because i had already formed andalusia recently i just formed mali instead. bad call would not recommend
