The point of Blue Lock was always to create confident, ambitious, hardworking players who can operate within a team setting. There’s a concept in basketball that offensively aggressive players help their team, as long as they’re aggressive by doing moves they’re good at. (This concept is not an Invitation to jack up shots. It specifically calls for players to leverage their offensive strengths.) Not only do aggressive players score themselves, they draw defensive attention and thereby free up their teammates. I’ve seen people go so far as to say your mentality as a basketball player should be “score first, pass second.” That isn’t “score first, score only,” but a mindset that encourages players to put constant pressure on the opposing team by scoring whenever possible while still operating in their own team’s offense. The concept is known as “being aggressive in your role.” Applying this to Blue Lock, the strikers in the series are incentivized to play incredibly aggressively, and to be sensible in how they utilize their aggression. The first and second stages encouraged the players to try and stand out while trying to help their team win.
