a derby and a rivalry are not the same thing. they have many similarities but derby's are often location based... like two clubs from the same city or something... while rivalries can arise from different things like politics, achievements, events that happened in the past etc. For example in the Netherlands you got the derby feyenoord (based in rotterdam) vs. Sparta (Also based in rotterdam) .... but feyenoord's actual rival is Ajax (Amsterdam)
