I am very sorry that Cartier has discontinued this watch. I agree with you that it was a great idea and a fine execution of that idea. I hope they bring it back.
It’s Cartier timeless piece but I pass on a solar movement for that price. I have some japonese movements for better results. Congrats Max and enjoy your new Baby.
I discovered that Cartier has a limited number of small solar beat watches available for sale on its website! I pulled the trigger on a small solar beat yesterday, and it was delivered today. I am a guy with tiny wrists, and this watch model is small on me. I'm not sending it back however. Its gorgeous, and well worth the $2800.00 price. If you're looking for a Solar Beat, the small model is available, but who knows for how long? Jump on one if you're looking!
cmon, for almost 3k you can get whatever the watch u want. And citizen has eco drives for as low as 100euro. This availability is just marketing gimmick.
@@felicityw30 Breguet invented many things. The tourbillon and the modern minute repeater chime, for instance. He was also one of the first real serial producers of watches but those were pocket watches. Cartier is credited with the first wristwatch, though there were kind of bangley, bracelet type women’s wrist watches before.
@@Judah.Rosenthal I just can't seem to want to have a watch from Cartier. Longines and Rolex, yes but not Cartier. For Breguet, I worry about repairs as they might not have as many repair stores as Rolex worldwide.
@@felicityw30 I used to think like that when I focused merely on calibers and technology. But if you look a bit further at the design and craftmanship and eye for details there will be a moment when you simply cannot resist Cartier. Maybe, the Chronoflex e.g. Tank Francaise is more for you. You can't tell from the outside but it houses a split chronograph, perpetual calendar and a very handy feature that lets you set the hour hand independently. The Tank and Santos models also have their history and I reckon are as iconic as a Speedmaster and always will retain value. Best regards.
Great informative video, thank you. I am considering buying this watch, and I wonder about servicing it when the time comes. Do you a have a rough sense of how much that would cost? Thank you.
Thank you for the excellent video. I'm also interested in this watch. They announced the launch in September 2021. However, I knew that the release had been postponed indefinitely. In 2022, is the TANK Must SolarBeat watch officially sold by Cartier?
Hi, Max: saying "Cartier is high quality" is a tautology. And you hit the nail: "When everyone is copying you, you don't have to try very hard to look good." Right, you just have to keep being yourself! Great examples of that are the wine red and blue versions shown at 3:50: no numbers, no indices, no second hand, no date. Only two hands and "Cartier", the seven letters that summarize what finesse and good taste are. Congratulations on your new watch and enjoy it a lot!
I got this watch, love the watch however found the faux leather strap quality is extremely poor. I only worn less than few times and the leather already started peeling off/scarped at the back of strap punched hole..
I'm so confused. In the Santos-Dumont video, you said the small version was something like "comically" small. But that watch is bigger than this one is. Did your perceptions change or?
I am in the US and have been trying to order since last summer. I have called every Cartier boutique, and dealer in my state, and not one would take my order. What is the easiest way to put an order in?
Hello Max! Nice video, I just tried the quartz version which looks the same and I felt like the large version was too big for my 6" wrist, what are your thoughts ? I precise this is with the steel bracelet. In my opinion, 36mm watches are the maximum for me. Thanks a lot
From a mechanism, you are right - there simply isn't. And that's fine. That's not the point. You are paying for the Cartier Tank design language with the Cartier name on the dial. I mean, you can go get a Seiko tank look alike for $200 if you want, it's very similar to the less interested in horological history. I'm sure it costs Cartier less than $250 to make and package this watch. Not the point.
I was chasing after the Solarbeat throughout December, and to my dismay, I heard from many retailers in London that they were out of stock. A Christmas miracle happened on the 26 December when I found the last Solarbeat in a boutique and bought it in a heartbeat! Loved it since - glad you do too!
Congratulations Max on the new Cartier Must Tank Solar-beat, the watch is absolutely beautiful and no difference with the Tank Luis Cartier. The Solar- beat technology is a big achievement by Cartier, offering a power-solar quartz movement that it will run for at least 16 years, before its rechargeable battery needs to be replaced. Such amazing how Cartier developed a technology, using photovoltaic cells underneath the roman numerals without compromising the aesthetics and classics of the watch. For me, is a Tank and looks like the Tank, keeping the same classic and luxury and also, keeping the history for more than a century. I’m also at the waiting list at the Cartier boutique and I was debating between the Solar-Beat and the XL model with the in-house 1847mc automatic movement however, the solar-Beat is a win-win due to the size and designs from the classic Tank Luis de Cartier. One more time, congratulations 👍👍👍
Got mine in January and it is as good as you say, I even had it in a safe for 2 weeks and when coming back the time was correct so it can store a good deal of power even in total darkness. You should of also mentioned the 8 year! Warranty that Cartier has with their Watches and 4 free services making this an even bigger value proposition.
@@Riverpeth Hey, as far as I understood it , it has to be within the 8 year warranty of the the watch, this is something they explained to me whilst i was in the Cartier boutique - I was firstly shocked at the 8 year warranty as that is VERY long compared to other brands
I hope more brands embrace solar. It’s a much better option than quartz. Secretly my ultimate hope is Grand Seiko make a version of an Astron. Grand Seiko finishing with a GPS Solar movement is my dream watch.
Doesn't a "solar" just imply the power source for the quartz movement? It's not a different type of movement, it's just being powered with a battery that charges via solar panels. Or am I mistaken?
Funny to see how Cartier a d Seiko are playing ball... Seiko copied the Tank in their SUP line and put a solar powered movement in, while in return Cartier took notes and now releases this.
Walked into the Cartier Boutique today, asked about a solarbeat, the lady pulled out a limited edition boutique only light green strapped small. It was the only one in store, and had been delivered an hour earlier. My wife is so happy!
I love the Cartier Tank. Love a lot of Cartier’s watches actually, the Santos medium was one of the most comfortable watches I’ve ever owned. My only complaint is how bad their leather watches are. I mean, it’s Cartier, one of the most famous jewelry maisons in the world. You’d think they could produce a nice leather strap.
4:51 Why don't they make the buckle section of the strap a little longer so that the buckle would sit smack on the center of the wrist instead of being offset?
My Tank Solo hasn’t had the battery working in years. It’s an art piece (designer watch) and I understand what Andy Warhol said about Cartier. I like the quartz for the lack of date window complications. I do love my Solar Seiko divers since they are the most accurate watches I own +1 sec a month.
Hi. Thanks for the information I would like to buy this tank one but I am in doubt better to buy a Qurtz one or a solar one. I appreciate let me know your experience and do you think which one is better quartz or solar.?
I have a 6.4 inch wrist and opted for the Tank Louis in rose gold (the manual wound version released in 2018 to celebrate 100th anniversary). I think it's a great size! I thought about the large, but I think with a Tank, everyone should size down!
Went to the Cartier boutique to purchase a Tank Must and SA mentioned that the SolarBeat models doesn’t function well- I was recommended the automatic movement ones and got the Tank Must extra-large with leather strap. It’s apparently very difficult to charge and will frequently stop.
Really don't enjoy a solar watch, can't keep it in a safe or draw otherwise it stops, then once stopped you're in trouble because you can't wind it, so you can't wear it when you want to.
Guess you're right on that one. Hadn't thought about that. Kinetic watches don't have that problem, you can wear them immediately even when discharged plus you can charge them on a special seiko charger in 15 minutes or so with a power reserve of 4 years for some of them.
Awesome! While I know some people pine for a Rolex Sub as a highly recognizable luxury time piece...my opinion is the Tank is FAR more recognizable.. and I also feel it's much more classy and refine. I'm stuck between a Tank and a Reverso, although realize they are two different price points.
Please do Max, Tank or Reverso is my dilemma too... if you could compare a Louis that would be a fair comparison. In the meantime you have persuaded me, the Solarbeat has to be my one quartz watch. Thanks
I tried the regular Must quartz in large, I believe the same size as this, and as much as my heart was in it, it was just too small for my 7.5” 19CM wrist unfortunately. If I did have it, I wouldn’t have worn it much. So I opted for a Santos in medium instead and while it too is small, it has more wrist presence, and scratched that itch. Great review!
I appreciate that a cow or alligator was not killed to make the strap for this watch. I use either silicone or mesh on all my watches. Also, I would not buy a battery operated quartz but I would have no problem purchasing the solar powered model. Thanks for bringing this watch to everyone’s attention. I now want one.
Been keeping an eye on this Solarbeat Cartier for a while now. Not sure the cabochon is for me, but I’m all for dressy quartz solar powered watches without a second hand.
I appreciate saying that one buys a Cartier simply for the brand etc. I fully agree, but then ppl still carry on as if they actually like this watch. Let’s be honest, it’s incredibly boring.
you just got one subs from Berlin.. Hi there.. really nice video review.. i came across your video because i am interested in the Tank Must extra large with steel strap.. may i ask your opinion please.. i mean this going to be my first deisgner watch that i would like to keep all my life and pass it along when i am not around.. please give opinion about it.. i really appreciate it. All the best for the channel
@@Peter-Alexander Hello ! I went to the Cartier AD in my city in october. He told me that this model is no more sold. A few weeks later, I had a look at Cartier webpage. Solarbeat seemed to be available. So I decided to call Cartier headoffice in Paris. They confirmed that they had reliability problems with the item, but that they were gradualyy resolved. They assured that Cartier wouldn't allow themselves to sell a non reliable product, which I have no doubt ! Watch is still in the catalog but supplies are not fluid. You have to wait a few months to get one. Does it answer to your question ?
@@mycabciechauffeurpriveastr5287 Hello MY CAB Cie /... Absolutely, thank you for this information. I am sure others interested in this watch find it useful as well. Hopefully Cartier will sort this out so you will be able to buy it in the end. Best regards.
So wait half a year on a 3000 quartz watch ...no thank you . Folks this wait hype is stupid ,just get the more readily available regular quartz tank my ad has plenty or save yourself some money and get the many other square dial quartz watches in the wild. Take a look at the Rotary for one
Vegan leather ??? Hell ! Why should the minority impose their way to the rest of us ? Cartier best note that this is not on ! I want the crocodile leather straps as before!!!
Sono went to a London based Cartier official AD, was told the solarbeat is a ghost, never seen one in flash and likely never will, no point in waiting and that even if/when they come out there is no experience with the durability of the solar cells, so better off buying a standard quartz. What’s the deal with these?
Quartz movements are alright with any Tank, because there's no Seconds hand to give it away, and in an all stainless steel case it's far more tasteful than gold-dipped, gold-filled whatever cases. However; I did like their older more script style logo than the sterile, "modern" block letter version they use now. The SEIKO Tank is a wonderful alternative and also well executed.
I thought to myself this is a SFW video, I admire Cartier but from afar and I do not see one in my future. I'm not rabidly trawling through Chrono24 yet but I've a feeling this may be the pebble that starts the avalanche. Excellent stuff again Max
Great video. Think I may get the quartz. Could replace the battery myself and avoid the inevitable extortionate Cartier service. Though obviously won’t come for 16 years!
Hey Max - thanks for this awesome video. I'm getting one for my GF - she's 5'5, mid/below avg weight with a fit build. Would you recommend she wear L or S ?
