Today, we go through some of the most insane album covers ever. I'm sorry. SUBSCRIBE & follow meh • Twitter - / onlysmallbites • Instagram - / onlysmallbites • Patreon - ??? • Twitch - ???
album covers can make people feel a wide array of emotions, for example the album cover for that one Zach fox with him holding a cigarette between his toes right next to a plate of eaten chicken makes me want to commit a felony.
Machine Girls “…Because I’m Young Arrogant and Hate Everything You Stand For” is such a cool album cover. The arcade vintage game editing is cool and there’s more details every time I look at it
Remember when Russel Mills literally put dead bugs, nails and his own blood on a canvas for NIN's The Downward Spiral? Every piece of art made for that album is horrific and disgusting and I love it.
Dayum, I actually bought that album at one point. Sadly along with my other CDs lost to time but, that's probably in essence among the most metal sounding things I have owned in terms of the album art alone💪🏻🧐
@Xavier!! To be fair, there's only like 5 people in the rap community that have listened to FaL2 and it's a shame really. Strange Fruition is a beautifully creepy song.
King Crimson's "In The Court Of The Crimson King" is a classic one, a horrifying yet impossible to stop looking at album cover, in my opinion it's easily one of the best album covers ever made! PD: Loved the video!
As someone who listens to a new album everyday and who also designs some album covers, the medium is extremely close to me. Only until you try and draw your own cover can you really understand the complexity of how to organize a square and make it as interesting as you want it to be. It's kind of overwhelming and at the end of the day you really can't fit all you want to on it, so you should be selective. Since OSB was sharing, some of my favorite album covers right now are Turnstile's GLOW ON, Brand New's Deja Entendu, and Turnover's Peripheral Vision (all great albums too).
@@andrewstephens5885 not really, it’s just somebody who listens to more music than just the standard Zoomer/Fantano/Mu shit. Every single one of onlysmallbites videos are about the same 20 bands/artists. It’s so boring.
Baby Goat is an incredible album cover, don’t even remember the artist and have never hear a single song from it but it deserves a billboard spot for the album art alone
Watching movies with the sound off also had a great cover. Mac albums are iconic. Also gotta love Tyler. But my fave is Wish you were here by Pink Floyd. Great video!
My favorite album cover has to go to Korn's debut album. The fact that you don't know the man, his intentions, or why he is standing above the girl on the swing set, it makes you wonder what is about to happen. On top of that, when the music does play, it's like the pov of the man before he leads up to that moment. With songs like 'daddy' and 'clown', It's really intriguing how the music can fit so well with the album cover.
4:03 this was the first thing my brother asked me after i saw him for the first time in 5 months. he asked "have you seen the uncensored death grips album cover"
I think my most favorite album cover is Tyler the creators flower boy ablum because of the astheics behind it. After looking at closely you can see the car he talks about so much behind him just barely
Certified Lover Boy’s album cover makes sense when you listening to something like Girls Want Girls or Way 2 Sexy, but then it goes to a song like Knife Talk and the last thing I’m trying to associate a song trying to act all hard and hood is 12 pregnant emojis 🤰
All of Roger Dean's work with Yes (the band) and Gentle Giant are all magnificent. They combine this element of futuristic worlds brimming with wild nature, topped with extremely beautiful and strange landscapes. If I ever had to recommend an album just based on it's cover, it would be anything Roger Dean illustrated.
@@rampageblizzard That saying is so stupid to me, if you don’t put any effort into the image of your book, or product in general, what is supposed to initially entice me? If I see a lazy or generic, or just aesthetically unpleasing looking album cover I’m less likely to want to listen to it.
@@ButterscotchPenguin yes, an album art is your first impression of that piece of work. but you will have no idea if you like the album until you listen to it. It’s pretty hard to create something that will represent every track, theme, or whatever about the album in just a small square on the cover.
@@rampageblizzard It’s part of the job as an artist to make an album cover that helps represent the album or at the very least stand out, if you can’t even do that you’ve failed in a way as an artist. The cover is apart of the experience as a whole and if people don’t want to listen to it because of an uninteresting cover that’s completely fair lol. That being said yeah I’ve had plenty of albums with bland or generic looking covers that have some good stuff, still stand by that saying being dumb though and I still think have a lot more of an enjoyable time with an album with a good representative cover, just makes it that much more intimate of an experience. It’d be like making a fantastic painting of space and labeling it “white bread” or something lol.
I'm happy you started to make more longer and interesting videos then your usual "Basically Of" series. I also would love for you to go into more stuff like covering YOUR favorite albums, stuff to recommend to people who are a fan of a genre, and other music related stuff. keep it up man you found a really unique spot on this side of RU-vid 👍
Its time for every ones favorite comment series,MY FAVORITE BITS FROM THIS VIDEO!(there's some basically references, try to find them) 1:02 bites gets dumped 2:25 childish gambino way he's here! 3:09 oh god you ain't get these ear to listens to that 3:38 death grip! Your not in jail for punching a police officer with the 2 wild baby keem 3:54 death grip and his crew(plus sus album cover) 4:11 50 cent(also bites,I think you made a new meme) 5:20 gorillas, you survive the paint ball war 5:45 the mail man is here(pretty late bub) 7:01 the beatles! 7:50 THE WEEKND,he said it!!! 8:06 he said the weeknd again!!(props to you bro) 8:50 weezer! 9:10 charlie is angry at bites
An album cover that I am actually upset about is the cover art for Possession by Joywave. The singles had incredibly interesting and lively cover arts, but the album's cover art is just the golden disk. Like I wouldn't be able to pick it out in a pile of records if you asked me to. It's incredibly weak compared to all of their other album covers, which are all unique by themselves.
I was honestly expecting this video to suck absolute ass because most music youtubers do. but this was pretty good. nice pacing and sweet animation. cool stuff
I’d love for you to make a video about remixes, especially considering the different types of remixes out there as well as their “evolution” in hip-hop & R&B. It’s such a unique aspect in music!
Tech N9ne is very iffy with his album covers. He can put out something cool and mesmerizing like the covers of Special Effects, Asin9ne and Anghellic, but then he'll have an odd and/or unappealing album cover like the deluxe of Something Else or The Storm. Sorry, I just missed the community post and needed to discuss it here.
If you’re looking for minimalist covers, the blue and green albums by Weezer definitely are those, if you’re looking for maximalist covers, you get something similar to the Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Music album by Tally Hall. Both are amazing alternative bands, and you know what you’re getting into by seeing them
I never really paid album covers any mind until I recently started going to a thrift store and buying albums. One of my most favorite albums of all the albums I bought so far was a purchase solely off the album cover. Some of them I purchase off the words like if it says jazz or Celtic music but not always.
You're right! I was mainly talking for around the time BTI came out, but yeah it's honestly really cool! Apple Music is taking the right steps. Spotify's still putting on their shoes over there...
One album cover I absolutely adore so much is Let's Be Animals by The Downtown Fiction. Everything about it is perfect. The custom paper mache helmets, how the one on the kid is waaayyyy too big and falling off a bit, the woods setting, how their jackets perfectly match the background colors, the adult in the back who actually is doing a lil pose, as seen with the hand on the side, the hazy aura around the entire thing, all with the small and not distracting text at the bottom makes it all feel complete. Not only that but it perfectly sets up the "gotcha!" element the album has. Whenever I showed the cover to anybody, 100% of the time, they say "aww, that's cute" but one of the very first lines in the album is "Thanks for nothing, kiss my ass". Truly one of my favorites ever.
Oh man, it's great to see album covers get love. I feel like they are never talked about enough. Edit: since I love them so much, I thought I would share my favourites: Radiohead: Com Lag EOB: Earth Nirvana: In Utero Radiohead: Kid A Boards Of Canada: Geogaddi Thom Yorke: The Eraser The Smile: A Light For Attracting Attention Tame Impala: Currents Smashing Pumpkins: Melancholie and the Infinite Sadness Green Day: Dookie Weezer: Raditude Radiohead: In Rainbows/ In Rainbows Disc 2
Thank you so much for the shoutout!!! Seeing how many people still admire that jump I did almost 14 years ago makes my day. Raditude is truly one for the history books. Don’t stop partying!!!
Just some random additions to the great list. Enter the Wu-Tang and Liquid Swords, Weezer's Pinkerton, PUP's The Dream is Over, Husky's Forever So, Sufjan Stevens' Illinois and Carrie and Lowell, Radiohead's A Moon Shaped Pool, Avalanche's Since I Left You, Funkadelic's Maggot Brain, Hole's Live Through This, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' Push The Sky Away
I would also add Birthday Party’s Junkyard and Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures. Btw if you like Nick Cave you have to check out the Birthday party. They’re one of the most chaotic post punk bands of all time. Nicks the lead singer.
My favourite type of album covers for some reason are photographs with no text or anything on them usually not in the best quality. A good example for is "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" it just let's you focus so heavily on an image while music is blaring into your ears and mind
As a fan of punk rock, punk rock album covers can be the same thing From really badass designs to what in the actual hell? Same with some metal albums like my personal favorite; GWAR
I was today years old when I learned that Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" album cover was not just Lady Gaga posing with a motorcycle, and she was in fact, FUSED WITH the motorcycle
One of my favourites is Funkadelic's Maggot Brain; on the front of the record a woman's head is planted in the dirt, with an expression of pure anguish and on the back only her skull remains... Safe to say the cover really lives up to its name.
Honestly funkadelic have much better album cover’s than Maggot Brain. Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On and Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow are much more interesting.
There's an album called Titanic rising by Weyes blood I listened to it soley based off the album cover and it's now my favourite album of all time. (Also the shoot for the cover was an actual set underwater which she swam in which makes the cover even better)
And yet, not one mention of the best album cover and title out there: Thanks to You Song That I Don't Understand How People Like It I'm Forced to Listen to This S--t Everyday Cause My F---ing Sister Plays This Every Time Without Getting Bored of Listening to It Thanks Ghost for This Piece of S--t You Introduced Into My Life (usually shorted as Thanks to You Song) - the album who's title is literally just a hate comment that Ghost and Pals (the producer/artist) got on one of the songs in the album (it was on The Distortionist, in fact). Ghost themselves is a great producer too, do check them out :3
4:56 intersting fact there was supposed to be a kids see ghost video game. Kanye mentioned it once before in a clip where he was playing Sonic 2 (i don't know who posted the clip, sorry)
King Gizzard & the Wizard Lizzard Always have amazing album arts, and they are all done by Jason Galea. You sure to find something you personally like in their 20+ options to choose from.
you know that website dalle mini, I've put in a few things and gotten some really interesting album covers and a lot of my favorites came from just looking up "best album cover ever"
The fact that the album cover for Get To Heaven by Everything Everything wasn’t mentioned is a literal crime, so, I’m sorry, but I’ll have to sentence you to a year of community service for it. Also, I’ve grown to really love the Born This Way album cover, though just loving that album generally is partly to do with it
Toto’s self titled album is my favorite album cover personally. It’s pretty simple but imo it completely incapsulates the sound and feeling of the album.
