I still think a blind tasting of the same whiskey that’s been fresh cracked, open for a week, open for 6 months and opened for a year would be really, really interesting.
I recently did similar to this at my house. I used regular larceny. I thought I knew the results going in, but was shocked how similar they were. I had a fresh bottle, one that had been open for about a month and had 2/3 left and a 4 or so month bottle with a single pour in the bottom. The fresh crack had a noticable difference to me, not as much as I expected, but the others were exactly the same according to my amateur pallette. I would also like to see SLB take on the task.
@@mattschmitt9924i do not care how long it has been opened larceny would taste like battery acid to me, it is the only brand i do not like thus far. I have tried more than once same thing. What i find very strange is that the c923 was drinkable at least but the 92 proof was pure rot gut on my palate. OGD 114 great, rare breed great, four roses great. Higher or lower proof does not matter larceny is just not for my palate. Nothing against it for others because each person is different, but not for me.
@@mattschmitt9924 i like wheated as well which is why larceny was a disappointment. It comes down to personal palate. I like most by makers, and others. You might also like ones that i do not. My journey is only about 2 months old. I have just been lucky enough to try a few. Don’t be put off by bottom shelf. Technically JTS brown and ogd are bottom shelf but i think they are fantastic
Just had the fortune of experiencing Kansas City Whiskey today at J. Rieger Distillery. The addition of oloroso sherry really creates a wonderful sipper.
Nice show! I really love the Madeira finished bottles! Interesting pours of mine would be Jack Daniels Heritage Rye, Art of the Spirit Madeira Rye, Seagrass, Russell’s Rickhouse, Old Louisville Madeira finished, Doc Swinson Pineau finished. Cheers! Get well:)
Your take on what makes whiskey/bourbon interesting is exactly how I explain what makes different cigars interesting . And, when you get the perfect pairing…my goodness bliss.
Gotta nominate any Springbank Local Barley as one of the most interesting whiskies you can buy. Barley grown near the distillery, then malted, distilled, bottled all on site with Springbank’s old school methods. Cask strength, non-chill filtered, natural color, and delicious. Hard to find, expensive on secondary, but undoubtably one of the most interesting bottles you could own and drink.
I'm sorry to hear you're sick, Trenton. I hope you get better soon. That's how I would define an interesting whisky. I don't know that I'll be able to name five, but I can mention some. Balcones Texas Pot Still Bourbon Balcones Lineage Texas Single Malt Laphroaig 10 Knob Creek Single Barrel Select, Kelly Liquors store pick Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof

my 3 most interesting bottles are probably knob creek 15, Westward Single Malt cask strength, and an Old Monroe Single barrel store pick rye whiskey finished in amburana
I know it‘s a lot of work - but could you either post the complete list of bottles in the description or show it at the end of the video? I‘m not a native speaker and I often see the shown/talked about bottles for the first time and have problems understanding the names of the bottles. Love you 😍
Being newer to the collecting, the one that most people ask about is my Jameson Crested (finished in Oloroso Sherry barrels)...similar in taste to Glendalough Double Barrel, but a bit more viscus. Picked it up in Ireland two years ago...smooth and sweet. Heading back there this year...will grab a couple more.
I live in Georgia and we are lucky enough that our local liquor store has it in stock. I bought some today and WoW. At just over 58% ABV, the first few sips will get your attention, but it certainly has a rich full flavor and feel in the mouth. The finish seems to go on forever.
I'd have to say the most interesting whiskeys in my collection at the moment are releases from Good Times. Their barrel finishing is incredible and often produces unreal flavors while still letting the bourbon shine through. It's some pretty incredible juice.
If you get a chance you have to try some Australian whiskey, not upshot, but whiskey like 78 Degrees, Lark, Sullivan's Cove and Archie Rose Whiskeys if you can get them! The 78 Degrees standard whiskey is amazing with raison flavours whilst Archie Rose Single Malt is awesome with Sticky Date Pudding flavours
Hey Trenton , you gotta take your Flintstone vitamins everyday bud. Maybe you wouldn't get sick so often. The purple ones have some bourbon notes. Get well soon.
Hey Kurt! There’s a store near Atlanta that actually has an entire barrel pick of a 13 year Glenallachie that was aged in a first fill px puncheon. It is an awesome scotch. Chocolate and blueberries for days!
Can personally vouch for the ASW Fiddler Georgia Heartwood. If you're in Atlanta, Green's has their store pick of this bottle still on the shelf and they're absolutely fantastic. Might pick up a backup next time I'm up there.
I like the ASW malt series the Duality and malted rye are both interesting bottles. Another one is the Shortbarrel toasted 101 a very good toasted bottle unfortunately they dropped the proof to I believe 96 proof and I haven’t tried that one yet. I have a few others that for me are unique and I enjoy them. Great video I wish I could find a Dark Arts one day. Enjoy!!
Most interesting = gotta go with Longrow Red 15 year Campbeltown scotch in Pinot Noir. Cask strength, red berries, well balanced with a bit of smoke and peat. UFR!!
I really like Scotch and especially Highland and Speyside. The GlenAllachie is a Speyside and when I looked up the 2009 bottle found there are multiple finishes. I am assuming the bottle you have is the Madeira finish since Madeira is more of a sweet wine.
I've been sipping the Seagrass for the past couple years Can't state enough how good that juice is I've been through 4 bottles so far, and I'm nursing the 5th
very nice , enjoying , I have only been on the Bourbon over a year now, how long do your bourbons maintain the flovors once bottle is open , (shelf life?) notice you like many others have a nice climate controlled room, but lots of open bottles
I bought a bottle of Fiddler toasted barrel finished par your recommendation, it's ok. I'm more of a $50 a bottle guy and get anxiety about spending $100 on a "it's so good bottle "
Great to get back to the days with you up there by yourself. When I saw it was this way , I watched the whole thing and loved it. Please go back to you up front and Trent behind camera They were so much better
I found myself leaning my head toward the monitor trying to hear the audio better :( Thought for a second it was me until an ad came on and was super loud.
My collections isn't super interesting. But two really stand out in my mind. First is a cask strength Black Adder, sourcing juice from Dalmore. The second is a 29 year old Silent Stills from Glenlochy cask strength.
That JD SBBP Rye is Da Bomb. Look for bottles over 130 proof. I just stopped in and "surprise" bought another one on the shelf for $64.99. Incredible pour. Don't sleep on the JD single barrel Rye.Its a BARGIN !!. P.S. the Old Overholt 114 is very very good Rye! Almost as good as the JD for only $30..Ssshh don't tell!.
