The Most IRISH club in Argentina - Ferro Carril Oeste 

Feels like if you are anywhere in the city of Buenos Aires you are close to 2 or 3 stadiums... How many Stadiums/Clubs do they have? And you hear statistics saying 70% of Argentinians root for Boca or River in the country... Oh and I live in Miami we have a certain Argentinian player you all might have heard of, that's why I am intrigued. 😁

@@MB-xq9hu There are 16 of 30 first division clubs in Buenos Aires. Furthermore, in the capital alone there are 36 football stadiums between the first and second division. If you're in BA, no matter where you are, you're probably 20 blocks at most from one of them.

Estimado! Le hago una pregunta, por que el nombre del club se escribe separado ( Ferro Carril ) y no Ferrocarril. Muy linda e interesante nota. Un abrazo.

@@sebastiangi5260 ¡Hola Sebastián!.. El Ferro Carril Oeste fué la primer empresa ferroviaria de la argentina, comenzando a rodar en Agosto de 1857. En ese entonces la Real Academia Española no había fijado reglas para la escritura. Camino de fierro, camino de hierro, y Ferro Carril eran acepciones perfectamente válidas. Y así quedó a lo largo de su historia. Todas los registros oficiales del Oeste ( 50° anversario, 75° aniversario, libros de registro, planchas de acciones de bolsa etc ), siguieron manteniendo la grafía originaria, lo que no se dió en ninguna de las empresas ferroviarias posteriores. El club por lógica mantuvo ese criterio histórico, aunque a veces se puede ver escrito todo junto "Ferrocarril". Tambien remite al escudo del club que mantiene las siglas F C O en gótico.

Amigo una pregunta ¿Por qué no se avanzó y terminó la tribuna esa que hace unos años sufrió un derrumbe? ¿Qué va a pasar con esa obra?

Most people in Britain and Ireland only seem to know about the people who left for what became English speaking countries. It's really interesting to see what became of the ones who settled in the Spanish speaking world.😀👍

@@MrLaizard Both those clubs were founded by the English community in Argentina. I'm sure the Irish and Scottish communities were also involved to an extent - as they all mixed, but the clubs roots are English.

Yes, I believe the Irish in large numbers came to Argentina to build canals/waterways down from the Andes in the eighteenth century.

But the part about canals, and even from the Andes, that's the very first time in my 50 years of living that I hear about that, and I'm an Argie. We barely have any canals in Argentina, and certainly not from the Andes, otherwise we would be harping on them all day like it's another Messi. Anyway, I'm going to google it up just ouf of curiosity. In echange for your trivia, here's mine: during the early days of the disastrous Malvinas campaign in 1982, our Junta sent a guy with excellent English to be the new Chief of Police. This Argie guy's name was Douglas Patrick Dowling, he was of Irish descent and hated the Brits with all his guts. He was a Major in the Argentinian Army (and was accused of torture by political prisoners) and the nightmare of the kelpers (who are even more loyalists than the orangemen up in Ulster). He had to be sent back to the continent after a month because he had immediately alienated himself all of the Scots-descended occupiers of Malvinas. I've always wondered if this Quinn had anything to do with a Quinn family from ireland who were neighbours to my father when he was a kid in Buenos Aires in the 50s and 60s.

River y Boca comenzaron como un mismo club, de hecho la bandera de Génova es blanca y roja, y por ello los colores de River.

Nada q ver... River se funda en 1904 ( todos dicen 1901 pero la verdad es q no hay ningun registro) Boca en 1905... En el mismo barrio si, pero nunca fuimos un solo club.

The"turcos" that came to Argentina were not really from Turkey, but from those countries under the domain of the Ottoman empire carrying a Turkish passport, however, most of them were from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, North African countries, etc. But as a single origin country, there were more Irish. The wet pampas are filled with Basque and Irish in the countryside. The sauce called chimichurri is a distortion of the word jim Cary, a gaucho gringo that invented it. As of Germans, definitely way more Irish than Germans. Germans concentrated in certain cities. Specially in Cordoba. Even Argentina history is filled with Irish individuals, the most famous admiral brown.a true national hero
