Maddy Morphosis faced the same comments towards her being a straight male competing on a queer show yet by being rational and understanding to those who didn’t understand she managed to become a favorite in the community. Nina’s comment was not malicious or even irrelevant, it was something many people subconsciously took into account when Gottmik was first introduced as a FTM competitor on a primarily feminine based drag competition.

So Nina….I heard a couple of clips of Nina Bo’Nina Brown speaking about Gottmik and trans males. She did not sound nasty at all. In the context of drag race, she has her preferences for what kinds of contestants should participate. Show preferences don’t equate to being phobic all around. People need to be careful to not equate viewpoints about drag race as being applicable in all contexts of life. For example, I am sure a lot of drag race fans would not want to see straight ABFAB women competing on the show, but I doubt they are ABFAB hetero phobic. After all, Drag U failed. But a lot of drag fans still love female icons, in spite of their drag show preferences. I can’t speak to Nina blurring out pics, but I know she has a blunt, silly, and slightly devious and dark, and exaggerated sense of humor. Nina is punk.

Your comments about Nina Bonina Brown have been taken out of context. She is not transphobic, and has blurred Gottmik from her show because of her not saying anything when people falsely attacked Nina for being transphobic. She had just voiced her opinion, even if it’s admittedly unpopular, and if you listen back to it in context it’s clear that the intent behind it was misconstrued to be transphobic.
When I first heard the whole Nin Bo'Nina is transphobic rhetoric, I was so genuinely confused and when I asked someone to share the genesis of what caused this and they showed me the 2 second clip of the Mik comment and what it turned into, I was genuinely shocked. I think classifying things like that as "phobic" minimizes the real impact of what that means. The fans of the show intentionally sought out Nina and harrassed her and so did some of the queens in an attempt to show "allyship". Mik is a hyper rich, hyper visible person with a fanbase that jumps on ppl who have anything critical to say about Mik.
