In our journey experiencing the Siberia region, which is densely populated by Turks, we travelled to Khakassia whose people fought the Russian for the longest time. After a century of wartime, the population of Khakassia is now 85 thousand.
The Khakas are the descendant of the Yenisey Kyrgyz people who are referred as 'the Kyrgyz' in Chinese literature. Russians named them 'Tatar' instead of their old name 'Hooray' and in 1923, they were named the Khakas. Although they are Christians in official sources, they are originally Shamans.
The Khakas are very much like Altai Turks regarding traditions. They value hospitality the most. However, this area is very dense in Russian police. Thus it is closely examined by them. It is common for outsiders to be greeted by the Russian police first.
Despite all this, Khakassia is serving the Turkish culture with its preserved culture and lifestyle.
Nazgul Kenzhetay and Emin Karaçak experienced living in Khakassia while examining the Khakas Turks.
The first season of the 'Bir Tugan' Documentary had to come to an end in Khakassia because they were arrested due to oppression by the Russian police.
In Bir Tugan, we will trace the Turks all around the world starting Siberia.
