I had a Puli years ago. A wonderful dog. Grooming is tedious but JD looked beautiful. His cords were separated weekly to keep him groomed properly. I loved that dog.

That matting must have been so painful. The dog must have been in constant pain, and no wonder the dog was aggressive. "No touch me, IT HURTS!"

As a retired groomer this was hard. You did a great job. When we groom dog in a neglected conditioned or a stray and use patience it shows we care. I have seen groomer butcher poor dogs who were matted a lot less than this dog. I admire you and your wife for the work you are doing.

You made such a difference to this dog. I actually couldn't work out which end you were starting with.. An all over cage of matted hair. Not ideal re sedation but sometimes you have to for the safety and comfort of the dog and safety for you. Well done. Wee tip for gloves when you need to change them, use a little bit of talcum powder on your hand as if you were applying hand cream. Gloves should be easier to put on but maybe a bigger size would hp you to. Just remember to give your hands a good wash to get talc and sweat off your hands. Thank you for showing this poor neglected dog.

Sedation was a good idea for you and the dog. Just seeing how matted the dog was it would have been too painful a process awake. Thank you both for not giving up on this dog. He has trust issues, and probably has been treated badly by humans. Maybe if he feels better, he can learn to trust again.

First view was of a pleasant dog, heavily matted. I skimmed for a minute and was puzzled, why was the equipment suddenly different and the dog lying down. Ah, he couldn't handle being groomed and you had to go to your veterinary friends. Good choice, if he wasn't willing to be groomed, having a whole matted coat come off would have not gone well. :) (Post trim, I would think that it could be quite a shock to wake up and find out you are suddenly weigh pounds less and are susceptible to drafts.) Amazing how much grooming speed you have developed over time, despite severe matting. It looks to me like the dog is not starved, doesn't seem to have injuries hiding under the fur and it doesn't look like he has a flea circus running around. Those are all hopeful. That is tricky, having to groom the head of a dog that needs to be muzzled, and do it before the anaesthesic wears-off. Thank you for all your work and travels. If I heard you correctly, you got to take a vacation.
