"Little by little. We advance a bit further with each turn. That's how a drill works!" That simple quote has kept me going through the roughest and darkest times in my life. People just don't understand just how inspiring Gurren Lagann truly is. Little by little I move a bit forward with each step. That's how I work :)
I always likes how Kamina's glasses were a V for victory and when Simon wears them they become an X like two V are intersecting, and then finally a star to represent his ever growing resolve truly surpassing and combining with Kamina's.
Gurren Lagann is a great anime. Also was I the only one who cried when Kamina died and when his spirit came back to help Simone? (most likely didn't spell that right)
TTGL made me realise 2 years into a college course that I was half assing my dream for the sake of a safer career path. Next semester I ditched my course and started over again as an animator. (Thankfully restarting isn't a debt sentence here like it is in the US). Few years on, I have graduated and while i'm yet to land that dream studio job i'm still much happier with myself and my future. All because Kamina told me to "Grit those teeth" as he punched me right in the face when I was deep in self doubt and sleepwalking my way to a future I didn't want.
@@AnimeUproar Thanks man and yeah same here. Anytime I can't get myself to do something I go watch the last 20 minutes of Lagann-hen and I'm good to go! Kamina also made me consider what I'll be leaving after I'm gone as no series has ever shown so much respect for a departed character. He proves that the true immortality comes from what we make and who we inspire so by god I'm gonna keep making shit till something sticks!
damn for some reason this comment has hit me hard I´m in a really poor state right now and any decision I make may alter my life entirely so smth like this is really what I need haha ^^
I graduated from college completely unaudited and realizing how little I knew about living in the real world. In the beginning I was paralyzed by depressing and fear for the future. Opting to watch anime with my girlfriend we stumbled across this show. It made me remember who I was before going to college, before the fears and doubts. I joined the military because that's what I wanted to do before family talked me out of it. Set out on what you truly want to do, learn to do it better, take failures as lessons and successes with gratitude. See you all in the heavens
Same here, watching it for the first time was incredible, as well as the second, third and fourth times😅. Also I think that somone should be a fusion between the series and the movies
@yassine Ridouane gurren Lagann is consistently amazing. If the episodes in which they grow up don’t do it for you, that has nothing to do with the show and more to do with your personal expectation for the how the show would turn out.
I watch it at least a couple times a year. It's gotta be the most inspiring thing I've seen. Push forward, never retreat. You have the drill within that will pierce the heavens.
@@icy2275 nope i actually found the later parts to be more interesting, u did not like because you never understood the show, there isn't any part which made me dislike it. This is the only mecha anime which i liked and watched over and over again, i left all other mecha animes, but this anime is too good. Very good character development, has a badass mc, badass mentor, and badass side characters. Great anime
"Don't be held back by someone else's bullshit in fake memories. The one path you chose for yourself, is the truth of your universe. " -Kamina Still one of my favorite quotes by my Man KAMINA!
Kamina is still my biggest influence in my personality I actually find myself quoting Kamina but making it sound smarter but I live by his making the impossible possible attitude
I agree with you completely. My favorite anime by far. Not because "Ooh! Boobs! Wow! Giant robots fighting!" but because of the philosophy it teaches us. Kamina and Simon are my favorite fictional characters. P.S: ScrewAttack does minimum to zero research whatsoever.
It's a perfect message. The spirit never dies. It always finds someone to inspire. This is Aristeia. Kamina got this from his dad, the dead died and that didn't stop Kamina. Kamina does and that doesn't stop Simon.
I was happy to see this video suggested in my YT feed. Yes, Kamina is the most influental and rather deep character in TTGL’s cast. It’s a shame that not everyone can appreciate his character but at the same time I can understand why he is so decisive of a character as well... that kind of ”lifestyle” or idealogy isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. To me, TTGL is the most influental piece of media I’ve ever watched. I use its idealogy as an motivational source whenever I’m having hard time with my life (whether it’d be in work, in school, with relationships, doing my workout etc.). As you migh have guessed, Kamina has a special place in my heart and is kind of my fictional mentor. He’s easily my favorite character and TTGL is my favorite anime of all time. TTGL has so many good things going for it. It’s got great animation, epic story, great character development and so on... but still, despite all these, to me the most appealing thing in TTGL is the relationship Kamina and Simon shares and how it affects Simon’s growth after he is gone. There nothing more beautiful in this whole world than that kind of relationship between two men. I’m forever grateful for Gainax for their kick ass mecha shows. ”Your drill is the drill that will pierce the Heavens!”
Kamina is a role model for all. He gave hope to everyone that knew him in the anime and those who only heard about him. Dont believe in yourself. Believe in the me that believes in you!! I watch this anime all the time!!
GURREN LAGGAN HAS BEEN MY FAVORITE ANIME FOR 8 YEARS....... Kamina was one of the absolute best characters but simons growth throughout the story captured me. Without kamina that growth couldnt have happened in the slightest. Simons growth to the point of love then loss and being so content with his love that the loss means nothing truly touched my heart. The absolute best anime around i always reccomend.
The dreams of those who've fallen! The hopes of those who'll follow! Those two sets of dreams weave together into a double helix! Drilling a path towards tomorrow! And that's Tengen Toppa! That's Gurren Lagann!” - Simon
Gurren Lagann was one of the first anime I ever saw. It helped build my love for anime and I still watch it to this day. (started watching anime about 4 years ago) It was just such a hype show I never got that deep into thought about why I loved it but when I do now it’s simply because it’s so hype and shows that you can overcome anything. I just can’t believe people actually couldn’t see how smart Kamina actually is.
LISTEN CLOSE, SIMON! NEVER FORGET! BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! NOT IN THE SIMON I BELIEVE IN! NOT IN THE KAMINA THAT YOU BELIEVE IN! HAVE FAITH IN THE SIMON THAT BELIEVES IN YOU!!!!!
"Believe in the simon that believes in you!" Kamina I really loved this anime, it touched my heart. But it broke it when kamina died...he inspired so many of us
Immediately after I saw kamina for 5 seconds I knew he was my favourite character, perhaps, of all time in any medium. **spoilers ahead** After the time skip, when I saw that statue of him, immortalizing him in the same way we do our leaders, I cried like a bitch. It was so beautiful and im really glad they added that detail in there. Someone who even asked the question, why would I be worried about the dead? Only a few years prior. I cried again once I realized the cities name was kamina city
Kamina’s bravery, and faith goes on to change the entire universe. Even after his death his spirit that touched his comrades lives on and grows beyond the limits of what anyone imagined. If you think Kamina is a stupid character you really missed the point of the series .
Trust me, I clicked on this because I love Kamina. And his death originally broke me as a child. The way he fights to the bitter end and goes with a smile on his face fits his character so well.
Kamina is such a great dude. He’s my fav character ever because he’s so positive and uplifting and his outlook is so infectious that I’m like, hey, I need to start being more like him. He’s so incredibly inspiring to me. I’m really really glad this video got made so that I can appreciate his character more than I did already.
I’ve watch Gurren Lagann since 5 years old and now I still like to watch it over and over again. I hope this anime continues to inspire everyone who watches it to keep moving forward. “Believe in the you that believes in yourself” - Kamina -
I truthfully think Kamina is inspirational. It hit me hardest at the end, where when everyone was shown their ideal world and a peaceful life, it was solely through remembering him and his philosophy that they were able to break free and see the truth. It beautifully displayed that even when someone dies, their legacy lives on and it still impacts the world.
I didn't think I would like Gurren Laggan at first; the drawing style just seemed too wacky. But I really did come to enjoy the characters, music, and overall theme of endurance and progression. And while while Kamina can be seen at one level as just some young punk, not too different from Kaneda from Akira, he is also symbolic for the masculine drive to struggle, overcome, instill order, and inspire the next generation. And that's pretty cool...
Finally people are noticing my mans Kamina. He's part if the reason I love anime and why I'm still going in life. Though Simon is my favorite Kamina was super inspiring and confident as he helped our hero Simon grow. This is just me but Gurren Lagann is AMAZING and awe inspiring to me. I highly recommend this anime
I wanted to thank you for making this, Kamina really was an inspiring character, and honestly someone I strive to be, keeping his philosophy to heart, Gurren Lagann honestly taught us all something. And that talk about your life during that time, thank you, that's exactly what I've been needing man. I'll catch up on that next Wano review, thank you Anime Uproar.
Great video, and as someone who also studied a bit of philosophy on the side, it’s nice to get a second take on applying it to this fantastic series. When I first saw the show (also in 2010!), I was on the cusp of leaving the cave. You could say I had undone my bonds and turned around, but I was still shielding my eyes from the bright light beyond. It took another push for me to step out, and this was the starting point for me. I’m a bit pressed for time at the moment of writing, but I wanted to leave a brief comment for someone else who appreciates how much there is to discuss with Gurren Lagaan.
I’m glad that you made this video, I actually have a strong soft spot for Kamina and he was the reason for me to cosplay as him. I like his character and see him as a motivator in my eyes. Hence why I like him so much. You did a great job in your video describing him.
IVE NEVER TOUGHT OF TTGL THIS WAY!!! I love how you took Kamina’s character and I appreciate your amazing outlook on life SEE THE INVISIBLE, DO THE IMPOSSIBLE, FIGHT THE POWER
Funny how when I decided to turn my life around, trailblaze into what is uncomfortable because comfort is a false sense of safety, and just gaining momentum that videos about this anime was JUST EVERYWHERE. So, after hearing how life-changing it was, watched it. Just finished it. I feel so overwhelmed. Kamina has given me the final push, so has his legacy in the anime. Row row, fight the power!
Damn this is Deep! I never thought about it this way, but Kamina was the most badass and inspiring character I have come across in my whole 15 years of anime. This whole revolution started with Kamina, and during the time when they were in that illusion of a good life, it was Kamina that brought them back to reality. Best anime still ever
"Reject common sense to make the impossible possible!" My new life philosophy. I just got into the anime about a month ago, n when I heard the 2 movies were getting their first US theatrical release as part of the 15th anniversary, I bought tickets immediately. Such a spectacle to see on the big screen. I instantly fell in love with Gurren Lagann. Attack On Titan is my favorite anime, but man Gurren is really giving it a run for its money. If not closely tied for my favoite anime, it's an EASY second! I LOVE everything about Gurren Lagann. Besides the hilarious moments and the over the top action that literally is in a constant state of "oh ya? Watch this" and going crazier and crazier every fight, the story was just soooo damn cool. Sure the "believe in yourself" thing has been done to death, but it felt fresh here, n I dunno why. But even that aside, imo the syory was super unique. The twist when you find out Lordgenome ACTUALLY WAS trying to save humanity, fuckin wild. He actually was a good guy, just went about things in a tyrannical manner, but even that makes perfect sense. Oh man, I could gush about this show and its story untill my fingers fall off, but ain't no one wanna read all that. Gurren Lagann is absolute PERFECTION and tippity top tier PEAK writing. Take the anime, and add the ending of the 2nd movie? Perfection perfected! I actually like the second movie's ending and major events more than the show's.
i just finished Gurren Lagann, and i´m shocked with what you said at the begining of the video... people dislike kamina?how´s that possible? He was that cool character that inspired the others to defy fate and dream bigger, even after episode 11 he became a symbol and remained the heart and soul of the show, he made Simon grow in such a cool way, if it wasn´t for kamina Simon would had never leave that cave... i mean i just finished the show and he is already in my top 10 favorite anime characters, great video by the way!
Although i'm more of a early Simon myself, i do appreciate Kamina's Message and i got your analogy! Hunting for super tengen toppa gurren lagann merch myself! Rock on Dude! Subbed!
I know this is a 2 year old video, but Kamina is one of my all time favorite characters. I think a lot of people lack the understanding of Kamina's purpose in the show. He is the igniter of the machine. His purpose was never to be the star or the focal point. He is there to ignite the flame that is Simon to power the rest of the show and its a role you very rarely seen done so well to the point that he's arguably the most iconic character in the show despite only being in so few episodes.
Ya know, after watching Gurren Lagann multiple times, I noticed something. For the most part Kamina only ever really throws caution to the wind when Shimon needs him to. If you go back and watch the scenes where he's alone with Yoko he acts much more subdued and mature then when he's in a crowd or backing up Shimon.
This video might be old, but at this time, during this pandemic, this year of 2020, after all my ups and downs in life, finally I found a video that appreciate the philosophy of Gurren Lagann and Kamina. Kamina shaped Simon to be a man, as Kamina shaped me. I am glad that someone gets this anime deep down the core. Hands down and thumbs up to this channel! :D
100% agreed my favorite character by far too and even though he died his spirit his drive lived on and pushed his friends through to the end a true legend.
When Kamina challenge his village claiming what he know, he still realize how scary earthquake are to simon and protects him with his body before finishing. He's such a great man ...
I actually finished watching Gurren Lagann for the first time a little over a week ago. (I will say that it's easily one of my top five favourite animes now xD) BUT. It really put me through an emotional roller coaster when it came to Kamina. From the very first episode, I knew he was my favourite character. My main reason for growing an immediate attachment toward Kamina is the IMMENSE amount of inspiration he gave me. I mean this man to me was just GLOWING with possibility and excitement..and I was EXCITED to see how far he would go. And.. with a snap of a finger he was taken from me. Just like that. And I must say, I have NEVER. In my whole existence. Come across an anime that made that kind of risky move. But holy shit did it work! o_o Kamina's death was probably one of the most impacting deaths I have ever seen in any anime. EVERY. SINGLE. CHARACTER. was impacted in some sort of way by it and I just can't even explain how risky and well written the choice was. Now what I find myself suffering from daily.. is wishing for a world where Kamina can be with Yoko. I think that's a tragedy that is going to stick with me for a very very long time xD
Gurren Lagann was the first anime I ever watched, I watched it about 2 years ago and have watched a lot more anime sense then. It is by far STILL my favorite anime ever. It was the whole reason I go into anime.
Broski this is my favorite video ever. Gurren Lagann is one of the first animes I've seen and has always been my favorite. Kamina was my favorite character and I've never stopped doing his pose or shouting his mantra since. Thank you for this.
Me and my Brother both got the Emblem and Believe in the Me, that Believes in You on our arms. This anime always gets me teared up, and always helps me through some shit. Right there with you man.
Gurren Lagann was an anime that still is ahead of it's time. Even the concepts of spirals being able to access higher dimensions and other universes... The only shape that is essentially 1 dimensional in it's true nature is the spiral. Junji Ito also touches on the spiral and it's nature in his horror. Even in the end, when the spiral nemesis kinda saw a vision of it's own defeat, SIMON TOLD THEM, and they still didn't get it.. that fucked me up cuz it took me years to get why he said "you only see your own limitations, not the universes!"
