Belgian company John Cockerill unveils the latest version of wheeled fire support vehicle based on a Boxer 8x8 armored vehicle fitted with a Cockerill Defense 3000 series turret armed with one 105mm NATO-standard tank gun.

Nowdays, a 105mm gun is either too big or two small for any mission. Anything that the 105 can take out, can likely be taken out by something much smaller (30-50mm) but targets that those small guns can't take out (think tanks) can't be taken out by the 105 either. They really need a long stroke soft recoil version of the German 120mm tank gun, which i think is available.

agree... all NATO MBT carry 120mm cannon, would make since to further improve Interoperability for the army and save money by using similar ammo to equip the boxer fire support variants with "compact" 120mm cannon which i think Rheinmetall have already.

You're right, and wrong (in the context of the Cockerill system). For an anti-armor role, larger caliber guns are preferable (ATGMs not withstanding); and, against the increasing number of light & medium AFVs, (...looking at you, China) the smaller auto-loading cannons (40~50mm) should do the trick. The 105mm used by the Cockerill system is meant for (mostly) an indirect fire role, paired with a linked targeting drone, as opposed to 90mm which IIRC is a smooth-bore with a wider range of munitions (both meant for low to mid-intensity battlefields by countries with not-so-deep pockets).

@@ironwolfF1 What you're talking about is essentially a self propelled 105 howitzer. What they're selling isn't that. It's a high pressure tank gun (I'm pretty sure derived from the British L7 gun that was on a number of older tanks (think M60, Centurion, even the first generation M1.) This is NOT an indirect fire weapon. Do you realize that the images don't show the Boxer but the Piranha (or one of its derivative). Your comment doesn't fit the image. Here, you are mixing the turrent with the mission module. Yes, this turret allows changing the caliber pretty easily. Now, for the Boxer, there is the rear part of the vehicle that can completely be removed, with only the chassis left. And when you talk about about the centauro, you're showing a boxer ifv. Then you show again the John cockerill images, while the Centauro doesn't have this turret,
