LOL Hjalmarsson is a defence machine, hes not known for doing alot of points, he does other stuff.. like.. defence.. not everything is about point production
just have to say as an AZ fan- no one expects Hjalmarsson to score points. However every game he plays amazing defense and is a great leader. also- he's a rock. he doesn't miss many games and that is something the coyotes desperately needed last year haha
To be honest, I have to agree. But he's not MASSIVELY overpaid, I'd say $7.5m would be ideal for him. I'm not surprised he got $9m though, because with him hitting 40 goals this year and it being a contract year, I had predicted months ago that we were going to end up over paying him to stay here... Kyle Okposo had a good first year, but this year he was basically non-existent. It could have just been a bad year for him, with the concussion issues and whatnot. But if he continues to decline, then I'd agree that he is way overpaid
Next video idea- The player that has the best points per game, goals per game or assists per game from every NHL team. You can do this from the 2018-2019 season or from their entire career.

You're right about James Reimer being the most overpaid in Carolina, but we traded Scott Darling to get him. So we traded away a terrible contract for a 'still bad but not a nightmare' contract lol. Great video!
Kovalchuk is only overpaid because the coach was an imbecile who either benched him or played him on the 3rd line. His cap hit would've been fine if they let him play where he was supposed to

He played with a hip that needed to be replaced. He wants to make a comback and if anyone can do it, its Kesler.
pretty accurate list but after seeing the season moving along some are having great numbers and some even career seasons not to see if it's a one off or not but I would say 75% of the list is spot on. Always hard to predict things like this. for example Pacioretty is having a very good season already passed is total points from last seasons and still has 40 games to go.

It’s crazy how many bad contracts were given in the 2016 free agency, Lucic, Eriksson, Backes, Okposo, Nielsen, Ladd, Reimer. That day really set a lot of teams up to fail.
Any Player making more than 4 millions a year is an overpaid player period. Same thing for all sports, when you see a baseball player making more per swing than a nurse makes in a year there is a problem.
I think the most over payed ranger is Vlad Namestnikov. He's under a 2 year $8M contract and does not contribute nearly as good as he did when he first joined the rangers. He is taking up so much cap space with a cap hit of $4M and I think trading him to free up cap space would be a great move.
I think that Bobby Orr qualified as The Chicago Blackhawks. Although his knees were shot, to no fault of his own, The Chicago Blackhawks did Sign him as a Free Agent, to only have him Retire shortly thereafter.
You got it right that Neal is the most overpaid Oiler but you echoed the idea that Neal can score 20 goals with the Oilers... I think last year's Neal would struggle to get 20 in the AHL... Either way, media consensus seems to be that Edmonton won the trade by getting the "better player"... IMO - These guys are basically the same player in speed and offensive production... Major difference is that one is extremely soft while the other is on most NHL player lists of guys they least like to play against... Advantage Calgary unless Neal can actually get 20 goals. The biggest reason for Neal's decline is how slow he's gotten and not lack of 'fit or opportunity' in Calgary. Obviously Lucic fits that narrative in Edmonton too and the safe bet with declining 31 year old NHL players is more decline. I hope the deal works out for both teams and players but I definitely don't like the odds of betting on either to show significant improvement...
As a flyers fans I’m loving the Hayes signing, he may be a little overpaid but you can tell he brings so much to the room and he’s an incredibly solid two way forward

Not crazy about Jeff Skinner's contract. $9M per year for 6 years. Scored 40 last season for the first time in his career, but doubtful he ever hits 40 again.
Lucic goes from being the worst contract on the Oilers now to the flames. hahaha Parise did good but still is a bad contract because he is going to start falling off because of age. My NYR have a few bad contracts, and Staal's is one of them. I think you nailed it for all the teams!
Looking at those today (just found out the video) and with todays stats Reimer, Cole, Kovalchuck (thanks to the Canadien), Palat, Pacioretty proved that their contract were not as overpaid as you think!
Even though I hate admitting it, the worst contract on Minnesota is Zach Parise but I don’t see him as the most overpaid. He’s a leader and if he could stay healthy would almost always be around 30 goals. Of course health is his concern but I’d personally rather give him 7.5 mil vs giving Rask 4 mil or even Koivu, yes Mike Koivu 5.5. It is close though. I also hate Victor Rask in a Minnesota Wild jersey knowing we gave up Nino
The flyers gave up 2 draft picks for Hayes’ rights to resign, so he pretty much could pay himself what he wanted. If flyers didn’t accept he could have just left, and the flyers would be 2 draft picks less and looking like even more of a failure of an organized
PIckle's contract is tttrrraaassshhh. I sense a potential buyout in the future. He might also be the first notable Shark drafted by them, stayed only with them, and retired as a Shark. We'll see though.

He is arguably the best defensive defenseman that the Sharks have on their current roster. He's getting up there in age and he will begin to lose a step(s). There may be a decline/fallout in the horizon and it's expected. Therefore, a potential trade with retention, bury, or buyout may happen. His contract is incredibly long, hence, the worst contract the Sharks have. I'm sure all the General Managers know this and don't want to touch his contract.
By far, Staal is the most overpaid, great observation. If you picked anyone else on the Rangers I probably would've closed the video. 5 mil is way too much for a d-man that can't score and lost his defensive prowess and speed years ago. Great call.
@@OhNyquist the reason I put Eriksson above was because he played on bad lines and got 29 points, and he also is a great PK player in the NHL statistically. while Neal played with good players and still got like 20 points, I believe?
Hjalmarsson is pronounced Yalmarson. The combination of HJ in Swedish gives a silent H in the beginning and J in Swedish is pretty much pronounced as Y in English. :)
I don’t like Ericsson at all he’s my least favorite player on the wings he doesn’t do much and whenever he gets the puck it always seems like he turns it over
Biggest overpay on Devils is Schneider...6M for a fringe starter goalie....Andy Greene is at least a great locker room leader and put up 25 pts last season
OhNyquist as a devils fan I definitely hope because we need our goalies to be good to have a bounce back season but based on stats from the last two seasons I’d pick him but Greene is still a great choice too
Price and Weber aren’t overpayed right now. It’s just the term that make the contracts scary in the future. But the AAV are reasonable for a top 3 goalie in the NHL and a true number 1 defensive dman.
Bad choice on the Devils. Greene played topline minutes and about 4 minutes per game on pk (1st in the entire league by far), plus he's the captain. I'm not saying his talent or his age matches the role he had the past years - but based on what minutes he's played he's definitely worth his contract (Could look very different this year though because he'll probably be used as a 5/6 defenseman as he should be).

I personally don't think Hayes is being overpaid too much. He's put up a lot of points and is a solid two way guy. 7M is maybe a bit too much but not a lot IMO.
Wilson ?? Hate him or not any team would wish they had Wilson lol. Not only is he a big force to reckon with he’s got a lot of speed and skill and is starting to develop into one hell of a player (he seems to be maturing too)
