This restoration may be the most drastic one I ever do. Never in my furniture refinishing days have I seen a dresser with 3 and a half pounds of paint (yes, I weighed it). It's one of those makeovers where I just love seeing the before and after side by side... I hope you enjoy this video!

I love that, rather than trashing the paint job verbally and physically (lol,) you preserved a bit of its original personality. That, along with recycling parts from other furniture, shows the respect you have for these items and how serious you are with restoration and preservation, and I think that's really rad.

@@Tenebarum I know, I was thinking from the beginning that I wish you could keep the colors, but lose the texture. It looks amazing from far away, but close up the paint would feel tacky and the texture would pick up grime, the sticking drawers would be unusable, the paint would flake and my cat would insist on eating the chips that fall from it, etc. I don't suppose there's a way to pour furniture paint, and have a better finish? The finished piece was gorgeous though.

“I’m sure I could find a use for this.” Oh my god, we are very alike. I’m a toy and plush toy restorer, and I always find myself keeping loose fabric cuts, felt, random plastic eyes, build a bear hearts, nylon hair, and antique doll dresses. Some of my random saved items have saved my ass for one reason or another.

it is 1:45 in the morning and I am watching this guy transform the greatest furniture make over in history and I am more than amazed with his carpentry skills but as well his ability to bring in tid bits that make it alluring (best word?) the little lady bug crawling over the cord and falling off and the camera panning up to the sky and coming down to the hardware store - this may easily be overlooked but these are things that make directors GREAT. See you at the oscars.

The finish that the wax leaves on the wood is really beautiful, it always reveals the details of its growth process. That's why I bought the raw wood for the shelves in my room and polished them all with clear wax to make them natural and protected from the sun(bcz northeast Brazil is very hot).

You never know what sort of inspiration may be taken from a video like this. That mat of paint gave me a fantastic idea for getting rid of a load of old paint I cant dispose of in liquid form. I’m going to the lumber yard to find some scrap to make a “drying tray”!

I you line the bottom of your "drying tray" with a silicone baking sheet the paint will peel of very easily as i do paint pouring and let the drips fall onto a silicone mat to use in jewellery

@@aaqilian5.085Construction workers construct, destruct, and restore things too. Not to mention they often work with wood and use a lot of the same tools he does. So I would say OP being a construction worker has relevance here. My dad is a general contractor and owns a commercial construction company. I’ve seen him use many of the same tools on his sites as this guy does in his restoration work.

The tool I find works the best is simply called a veneer edge trimmer. It's a piece of plastic with a 90 degree corner and a blade that cuts as you run it along the length of the piece. I think you can get them for like $5USD. Great looking piece by the way.

Love your work! What I love is you try to restore, preserve, and reuse everything. You are truly clever in your approach to your restorations. When that paint peeled off in a roll I thought ‘that might make a cool picture’ - so glad to see it as one. I also love that you film little creatures like lady bugs! I subscribed after viewing the first video. I love watching restorations of almost anything. But the gifts and talents of this artist are amazing. This is fast becoming my very favorite ‘watch’! And the little extra additions such as the lady bug in this video are so enjoyable. He is a master at filming and at restoring furniture. Framing the original epoxy paint swirls from the top of the dresser was also genius.

I really love that instead of just painting over the damaged laminate, you applied a beautiful wood veneer and used wood scraps. Makes for a much more durable and timeless piece that can later be refinished if desired. Great job!

My parents restored old furniture to sell at our store, so I'm a little familiar with thr process. There were certain items that my mom wouldn't touch because she knew that they wouldn't sell. This would have been one that she passed by because she didn't have the patience to fix up laminate furniture. I love that you still see the potential that a little patience and care has on an old piece of furniture

The ONLY thing I might've done different is try to figure out a way to make the art reversible, as I also really liked the colors peeking through the black pains! I think both sides were beautiful, and it'd be so cool to have a piece of art that you can just flip for a totally different vibe depending on how you feel like displaying it that day!

The art teachers at my school blame the older students for constantly making them dirty etc, whilst it's the younger kids that constantly destroy the tables. Bsically: we're the ones that need to clean the tables all the time so we aren't able to peel off paint after a while, which is actually kinda sad

Awesome work! You can use a flush cut trim bit on your router. Also if you do the side edge trim first, the top will then cover that edge.

At first glance I thought « what have possibly possessed you to pick that monstrosity?! » somehow frame by frame the pieces started to melted, peel, sanded, veneered, new pieces cut and created finally a beautiful desk appears at the grand finale. 8:27 you can buy a banding tool which makes trimming of the edges all smooth and easy it's a tool that you glide over the edge that you squeeze together to tension to the width of the edge 👍 I hope that makes sense lol

If you can get your hands on a really good, sharp chisel, then you could trim the veneer a little bit easier! I think some veneer companies also make their own little tools for it as well. (Kinda like the tiny screw drivers you get from IKEA sometimes haha)

At first, I couldn't understand why you chose this dreadful piece!... but when I saw the wooden drawer fronts I got it! The transformation was amazing! The wooden handles you made so beautiful! The piece is awesome and looks so smooth! You made a modern, unrecognizable and pretty dresser out of almost garbage! Thanks so much for sharing

This is by far one of the coolest restorations that I've seen on RU-vid. Use of the picture frame as drawer handles - ingenious. Framing the thick paint top - hilarious! Outstanding presentation! 😃

These attributes are something I notice also in Asian drama. The way your hands smooth the wood reveals the tenderness of a true artist. As a suggestion....in the future I'd suggest when putting the veneer wood on the top, you put the sides on first, trim them and then put the top veneer on. That method "captures" the side veneers and reduces that change of tearing an edge during normal day to day use.

Love how this is so beautifully filmed. The shots look so clean and very nice to see (which can be hard while working with wood), but the ones with the flowers and ladybug etc also look amazing. You can clearly see the effort put in these videos!
