I never watched any format older than Modern until after Thassa's Oracle came out, so I have no idea what the Doomsday win-cons were like before that. I'm curious to find out, actually.
24:04 casting consulation in your endstep sets up 0 cards in library for the next turn, which seems very strong. Remember necro keeps you from decking in your draw step. You know their hand, and can easily beat flusterstorm with your own fluster (or if you want to get fancy daze would work, but would put you at 0 mana and I think you're better served holding up misstep for ancestral since they're likely to consult into ancestral to try to kill you). Assuming they make you fluster, you will be passing with 3 lands in play 2 mana up, thoracle in hand for the win, force + bluecard, daze, and misstep. Even with perfect draws and cantrips, I don't see how the opponent can win from there. For example, they could draw lotus -> cast lotus (forced) -> consult for ancestral -> cast ancestral (missteped or dazed) and then you win on your next main phase with an extra counterspell remaining.
This was a lot of fun to watch. Probably won't ever play Vintage (not because I don't want to!) but I can enjoy it vicariously through you Bosh 🙏 incredible stuff! Well played
9:15, if there is no archon, you have a simple rit rit doomsday with one saphire mana floating, cast gush, pile includes lotus, street wraith oracle and two other cards, draw into lotus and street wraith, cycle street wraith, play a land play lotus for 1, then play oracle with two cards in library
I played against this exact build a few weeks back, with me playing UB outcome. Doomsday had like a 20-5 win record, might have even been better, so it seems like a good choice of deck at the moment. Switched decks and played a few games with it myself and it just feels nice and linear, with plenty of answers for other decks
Hey BoshNRoll, did you see the card, Likeness Looter, that was previewed from Wilds of Eldraine today? Seems like it would make for some awesome shenanigans in a Phyrexian Dreadnaught deck either along side Lazaz, the Multifarious or replacing it. Just imagine it... now our Dreadnaughts fly!! Hope we get to see it on the channel when the set launches!
M1G3 on the vamp tutor i would have gotten gush instead of ancestral to play around opponent possibly having mental misstep. Mono-W initiative doesnt usually run it but it's free to play around so might as well.
At 26:00 was there any consideration to paying for one fluster and dazing the other? That gives us a land drop for black mana and let's us dt for lotus to win
Brainstorm and Ponder are restricted in Vintage, you can only play one. Sleight of Hand is used because it can dig for cards without drawing, that matters vs Narset, Hullbreacher and some other stuff in the format.
I'd be excited to see you try @IamActuallyLvl1's tinker-doomsday flavor. Justin has been billing it as "Probably slightly weaker but much easier than standard DD."
I love how he describes it as one of the best Citadel decks ever, and it sure play like it. Some of the most fun a person can have if Citadel makes it into play.
shout out to Brian for taking the time to edit in a correction because he misspoke one word 48 minutes into a video. The hero we need, not the one we deserve.
When taking out probe in round 1 thoughts on going down a wraith instead? They seem very similar, and I know wraith gets around a thalia on board, but even if you don't value the information highly I feel the fact probe is blue makes it better than wraith? I don't think wraith is ever a creature.
I am currently planning to play this at EW, but I may pivot into Oath. I am considering playing only two Street Wraith. It just always feels like the first two cards I want to cut. I am thinking about two Force of Negation instead, or maybe one FoN, and go to three Daze. Or maybe cut only one SW. What are your thoughts?
Just a thought. But can’t you just consult at the end of their turn with necro online because you won’t have to draw a card on your turn. Then you beat fluster.
It's clearly a strong build of Doomsday, but the deck feels odd to me without even a single Chain of Vapour. Steel Sabotage is great, especially vs Jewel, and Cut Down / Snuff Out answer the vast majority of creatures in Vintage, but I can never cut the safety Chain myself. I suppose it's a matter of personal preference in deck construction - how much do you lean into going off as soon as possible, versus making your combo more resilient to hate - and this deck just wants to shove immediately.
You should flex on your opponents with "I like to live dangerously" consultation names of cards you play but are not in your library because you drew them or sided them out or commonly played flexslots not in your list etc.
I think adding in a Virtue's Ruin would be quite helpful for the Mono W matchup. Its helped in my leagues a lot, especially since people picked up a lot on the deck
>Bosh playin vintage :D>< >Bosh playin Doomsday :'( (Real talk tho thank you for everything you do, including both for playing more vintage and showing good vintage philosophy)
Justin (IAmActuallyLevel1) has a nice UW control shell with Samwise Gamgee he's been playing around with. Hope that'll show up in Brian's exploration of the format given his love of control.
So, tell me if I’m an idiot or a genius, but why not have 4 Darkness in the sideboard for the creature matchups instead of spot removal? You just DD, 4 Darkness and Oracle.
It gives them 4 draw steps to lock out your Oracle and doesn’t kill the problem (like Thalia or Archon) that’s stopping you from casting DDay in the first place.
man necropotence is such a f'n sweet card. i thought about how good that card is when bryant cook posted vitage doomsday recently, it's really impressive in your video too. yesterday i managed to t1 it in cedh. such a fun card. i mean, that card is very obviously cracked, but still.
Im not super familiar with vintage content, but ive been following your legacy stuff for a while now. Is there a particular reaspn why its 4x preordain and only 1x ponder? I thought ponder was better in basically every circumstance because it gets to look at more cards, generally? Is it because the scry is actually more valuable because if you only see 1 card you like with ponder, you have to keep the other two?
Also, sorry if these are noob questions, but what's with the 1x sleight of hand? For narset/bowmasters effects? Isn't that normally just worse than the other cantrips?
