Actually the neutrality one is not the historical portuguese tree because that makes Portugal go democratic. The historical one is the one where you keep salazar and the Estado Novo
Monarchist Portugal is my favorite nation to play. You can easily absorb Brazil and then immediately turn around and support monarchists in the Spanish civil war. During the peace deal you can take a huge chunk of Spain and follow it up with war goals in South America. It’s stupid strong if played right.
For me it made perfect sense that France had lost all its colonies in Africa after World War 2, after all the French were deleted from the map by Germany In the game it would make sense every colony revolt if the central government fell in a war like that or even the other powers take from the French because they think they are not capable enough to maintain the colonies "🤓"
Portugal is Britain's oldest Ally, Great fun to play, Can cause Chaos and Mass Casualties which ever Faction you go with due to the very Tactically chosen locations of their Colonies and Islands that can be easily built up with AA, Airfields, Infrastructure, Ports, Radar, and Naval Forts to make good R&R&I&I Locations for our Friends :)
I actually unironically played democratic portugual a few times. I wanted to larp as a minor allied nation in single player and be relatively safe, but not out too safe. I also found out that I could just invade China through the focus tree as democratic Portugual, so that was fun.
It's ironic, as I'm doing a CK2 playthrough right now and currently there are two Frances: titular Crusader France held by me, and the Kingdom of France held by some random Pagan.
probably russia or china. russia can be partitioned into like thirty releasable states and you can get four russias on top of that from the original USSR, a civil war tag, and two collaboration government tags (you can toss in even more collab tags on top of that by collabing all the releasable states too). you can release all the warlords in china and also a few others like the sichuan and cc clique, plus you can get collabs on all the warlord and both normal chinas
Portugal was my first ever game, went commie, took over spain and ended up in a faction with communist italy, turkey and half the balkans, took over all of africa pretty much
@@pao5567 they did it on purpose to punish the Ukrainian people for their attempted Declaration of Independence during the Russian Civil War. Not a drought but a genocide.
It goes from one of the most popular and flavorful nations in EU4 To being INSTANTLY forgotten in Victoria and HOI4 The fall of Iberia in geopolitical terms happened so fast
All of geopolitics is a stage, and all the countries in it merely players. Many nations have their entries and exits, and one nation may play many parts in its time, sometimes a nation will be the most powerful empire on earth, with innate, opulent wealth, and sometimes its just that country next to Spain. Some call it tragedy, other call it the way of the world.
Blame Napoleon. When you destabilize a colonial empire, make no effort to keep the colonies loyal and bleed the country dry in terms of both blood and money you don't tend to leave a powerful nation behind you. Especially after Trafalgar when the Spanish could no longer project power overseas. One of the largest empires in the history of the world simply faded away in a few decades because Napoleon didn't trust Ferdinand VII
You mean the fall of love given to iberia by paradox happens so abruptly between eu4 and victoria? Because in the real world, portugal had been declining since 1580 when a succession crisis brought about the iberian union, in which spain treated it basically as another one of its colonies. When Portugal broke free in 1640, Portugal had lost some of their colonies during some of the spanish wars, and while after the union portugal was still considered a relevant power, new colonial powers, some of which took their lost colonies, overshadowed the new liberated portugal, such as tbe dutch and the english. The major blow however, was in the napoleonic wars, where portugal was forced to fall back on brazil, which it after declared independence under the king's son. Thereafter, it essentialy became a british protectorate.
the reason why estonia and france recieved a boost in comunist ideology is because the focus gives that national spirit to any european country with a certain amount (around 10%) so france of course because of events and i guess estonia. (thats why you see yougoslavia and then it disepeares later in the Video)
I think with the "Latin American Communism" focus, you were supposed to use your spies to help further influence communism in the region. The focus even gave you a permanent bonus for propaganda and boosting ideology missions. (7:31) That's my guess at least I have no clue why Portogual wanted to influence Estonia though....Maybe Portugal thought poor Estonia was lonely in the Baltics
3:42, Actually, the historical path is "Support the Spanish Nationalists" believe it or not. Portugal wasn't neutral, so why paradox added that path is a good question...
Omg I literally played this exact game earlier today. Like from the Allies smashing in 1940 and holding Greece, the ussr collapsing, the amount of units me and isp had when we invaded the Germans, the South Americans not joining, the Hungarian borders, the Romanians owning lots of Russia, japan going ham on everyone, the mass encirclement in the Belgian area, oml I’m typing as I’m basically watching him play the game I played this is crazy! They did annex Vichy in my game tho
Portugal historically goes estado nova snd supports the nationalist, staying neutral ish , but also offering too build naval bases on the azores too the USA and brits.
It looks like you get a boost to the boost party popularity mission with your south american focus as well, so I guess the idea is you pick which countries you want to get to the right percentage. I'm guessing they added it before La Resistance so it would have been the diplomatic option before. Also being able to attack the Guanchi Clique from a focus would be kind of useful for Go Ahead, Macau My Day. UK of Portugal and Brazil is probably stronger for the manpower, but coring Spain probably gives more factories and with Macau as a collaboration government you start to snowball manpower from taking China on its behalf, so there could be an argument for this path for that achievement.
Tysm for playing portugal and making people remember it exists and not be a forgotten nation, I'm from Portugal btw Also strengthen the regime is the historical one Edit: tysm for 100 likes, I've never had that much
The only thing I hate about this game is % land taken or even % victory point taken doesn't account for anything. How does losing troops add more then taking Berlin I will never know.
Guys, I think that there are people saying that supporting the nationalists is "historical" Idk I'm not sure I think we need a thousand more comments about it to seal the deal
