For decades, the Leopard 2 tanks have been the backbone of the German army. But in a rapidly changing world, with new threats emerging constantly, the Germans realized they needed a new weapon.
In 2022, Rheinmetall, Germany's leading defense company, unveiled its answer: the Panther KF51. Equipped with cutting-edge technologies and advanced weaponry, this new tank aims to revive Germany's battlefield supremacy.
This video delves into the Panther's journey, from its inception to its public debut at the Eurosatory defense expo in Paris.

Hungary paid a share of the development (Germany wasn't involved in the project at all, other than Rheinmetall being a german company). And Hungary is the ONLY state that procurs those tanks. Rheinmetall's options are kindof limitted therefore - sell to Hungary, or don't sell at all. On a somewhat random sidenote - Hungary is a partner state both in EU, and in NATO. Orban may not be the prime minister "us non-Hungrians" would wish for (the very same could be said about a number of other allied countries' current/recent/future leaders, most notably D. Trump...), that doesn't change the diplomatic status though. If relationships in an alliance are dictated by mistrust, that alliance has no whatsoever purpose any more.

@gehtdichnixan8561
@gehtdichnixan8561 12 дней назад
@@verrezen That's actually quite simple: Everyone has their own fleet of tanks in service, and noone in his right mind plans to scrap that and rebuild it from scratch - unless the existing vehicles are complete trash. Hungary, on the other hand, still mostly runs on T-72's (164; the "complete trash" i referred to) and has only ordered a batch (44 in total) of Leopard 2 A7's. Thus, it has a lot of room for a new model such as the KF-51 while rotating the T-72's out, and apparently sees it as the better choice than modernized Leopard 2's (which are ~4mil/unit more expensive than the KF-51). Even more so since the KF-51 wil be built in Hungary (=jobs), and potentially open up export options (=trade revenue).

Not really, no... the KF-51 prototype was build by Rheinmetall because Rheinmetall saw their influence on the MGCS program diminished. The MGCS program is what will supposedly produce Germanys and Frances next MBT. The companies selected for it where mostly Nexter from France and KMW from Germany (both basically merged into KNDS based in the Netherlands). Rheinmetalls contribution was reduced more to a supplier rather than main-contributer. Further more Nexter is currently developing the 140mm ASCALON gun which directly competes with the 130mm gun from Rheinmetall. In order to not be left behind Rheinmetall opted to develop a competing tank on their own and offer it on the market. The goal here seems to either demonstrate and promote their technologies for the MGCS or to sell tanks before the MGCS can snatch up the entire market as the Leopard 2 did. The chances of Germany or France of actually adopting the KF-51 as their future MBT I would say are slim to non-existent. For the MGCS the best Rheinmetall can currently hope for is that the 130mm gun is selected instead of the 140mm ASCALON. The same goes for the Leopard 2 A-RC 3.0 which is from KNDS (KMW + Nexter). That too is either just a technology demonstrator/promoter or KNDS attempt to have something to offer to countries looking at the KF-51 before the MGCS is ready. The MGCS is supposed to enter service in 2040 adopting a new tank with a new gun just to replace it 15 years later is rather unlikely. Germany is currently procuring 18 Leopard 2A8 to replace the 2A6 send to Ukraine. Germany reserved the option to order another 105 of these so chances are Germany will upgrade or replace aging Leopard 2 with newer version of the Leopard 2 until the MGCS is ready rather than to buy an interim solution. The KF-51 and Leopard 2 A-RC 3.0 seem to be more for export customers who do no participate in the MGCS or want to replace their tanks sooner than 2040.

Given the history of weapon delevopment cooperation between fance and germany, its more likely that the KF51 will be adopted then that germany and france actually manage to finish the MGCS project.

Its not the New German MBT. But one of the New German MBTs. There is currently several Offerings from German Defense Industries. After the Ukraine War and the Decision in Germany to Remilitarize. (A Decision shared among many European Countries) German Defense Industries (And also other European Defense Industries) have been ramping up Activity. Quite alot of new Vehicles and Weapon Systems are currently Introduced and Presented to the Armed Forces of Europe. Hoping to get Contracts and become the new Supplier for this Remilitarization. I think alone on the Main Battle Tank Front we right now got three offering: The KF51 Panther. The EMBT ADT 140. And also the Leopard 2 A-RC 3.0. But there is also alot of other stuff. Something I personally found Interesting is the new KF41 Skyranger. (A Leopard 2 Chassis with a Skyranger Anti Air Turret) Which is likely a Result of how Succesful the German Gepard Tank has been in Ukraine. In the Past. Most Militaries have Abandoned Short Range Anti Air Support Tanks as Aircraft would generally Drop or Fire their Weapons from far outside their Range. But now with Drones being such a big Part of Warfare. It seems that this Type of Vehicle is making a Comeback.

There is no way this tank will be used in the german army. They will rather invest into an evolution of the Leo2 (still classic MBT with manned turret and 120mm cannon) than starting an adventure with an untested and unproven new machine that still has a manned turret. Everyone knows how long it takes to fully integrate new military systems. They won’t do that for a system that only goes half the way to a new generation. With an unmanned turret and 10 tons less weight the Panther might have been worthy that risk - but not as it is now

@@Benjikame mostly agree, however, ther is no "The Leopard 2AX", it is the name of the program for the next and eledgedly last evolution of the Leopard 2. The AX is in a pahse, where the German armed forces put forward their requierment for the next satisfactory evolution of the Leopard 2. Technicaly actually the Leopard 2 A-RC 3.0 could be a a possibility, so could maybe be a Leopard 2 Hull with the KF51 turret or many other possibilitys. Personally I think that it would still be the current base hull and base turret. As a result i see the combined battlefield units and tactics as the key to victory. In every scale and variations: micro - the area around every unit, normal - actions in your battlefield / front section, macro - in a whole region,...... A single unit, alone from the beginning?
