Hey everyone,
Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. In today’s video we’re going to be tackling a topic which I’m sure will be subject to MUCH debate- who is the most powerful WEASLEY? More importantly- how do each of the Weasleys stack up against each other? If we were to RANK the famous wizarding family by power, who would come out on top? Who would fall to the bottom?
I’ve made lots of ranking videos in the past- ranking the most powerful Slytherins, Hufflepuffs, Ravenclaws, Gryffindors, Order of the Phoenix members, Dumbledore’s Army members, Marauders, professors & more, If this is your cup of tea, then you may want to check out those videos as well. However, time and time again I’ve seen this idea commented, so today- let’s look at the Weasleys.
There are 9 immediate family members of the Weasleys to which we’re introduced in the series. In no particular order- Ron, Charlie, Ginny, Molly, Fred, George, Percy, Arthur & Bill. Before we get in to this, I want you to comment down below your OWN rankings- then watch the video and see how they compare.
The Weasleys first make their mark right near the beginning of the Philosopher’s Stone, when Harry stumbles in to them at platform 9 ¾ . Almost immediately, we get the sense that Harry is going to be close with these solid, kind people- and over the course of the books/films Harry basically becomes..Family. Where Harry was shunted at the Dursley residence (which is ironic since he is actually related to them)- he was conversely welcomed with open arms at the Weasley residence- he was..Harry.
And through all their quirks- we love the Weasleys. They are good people with nothing but Harry’s best interest in mind- allowing him to spend countless holidays at their home, and always looking out for him. But here’s the thing about the Weasleys: beneath their welcoming, warm exteriors, they are all extremely magically talented. A bit of history- the ‘Weasleys’ are members of the sacred 28 - 1 of 28 wizarding families that were thought to still be truly ‘pure-blood’ by the time the 1930s rolled around. However, in spite of their pure-blood status the Weasleys did not discriminate against others, like many pure-blood families did. In fact, the Weasleys recognized everyone as their equal- muggles, muggle-borns and half-bloods alike. For this reason, they were labelled as ‘blood-traitors’. Their lineage is long (and traceable) and over the years there have been many other powerful Weasleys, but for now, let’s look at the ones we know. One thing to bear in mind is that NO Weasley is weak- they are all powerful, some are just more powerful than others. This was the hardest power ranking list that I’ve had to make so far.
9. Percy Weasley
First things first- Percy is certainly the least popular of the Weasleys- I think that goes without saying. He was born in 1976 and was Arthur & Molly’s third child- after Bill and Charlie- and though he personified many of the positive Weasley values, his mind did end up getting a bit corrupted and he went down a questionable path. He did however, eventually redeem himself.
He was a very ambitious person, but this also meant that he was a stickler for the rules. He was extremely disapproving of Fred and Georges constant pranks and tricks, and had convinced himself that in order to get far in life, you needed structure.
His structured life, calculated demeanour, and strong desire to APPEASE meant that he eventually landed himself the roles of prefect / head boy - taking on additional responsibilities while still a student at Hogwarts.
However, just because Percy was ambitious, this ambition didn’t necessarily manifest itself in the form a longing for greater magical ability. Percy was a good student- he attended classes, got good grades, and did everything that was expected of him- but he didn’t necessarily go above and beyond magically. He never wanted to be ‘powerful’ in the sense that he could create all kinds of powerful spells- he wanted to be like Fudge- he wanted to be minister for magic- he wanted..political power. For this reason, Percy is at the bottom of the list- however, don’t get me wrong, Percy is still a talented wizard.

You seriously undervalued Ron. He is a battle hardened wizard who fought on all front line, and behind enemy lines. When he teamed up with Tonks to transport Harry, she admitted that he was truly brilliant in battle. When he separated from Harry and Hermoine and came back to them later, he had spare wands he had taken off of death eaters, while he was on the run, alone. Ron is top 3 Weasley in my book.

Fun fact: Ron is one of the most magically talented people from the first half of the series. In fact, most of the spells he cast in the books were during this time period, and that's impressive because his first wand was a hand me down of a unique type of wood, that was only loyal to it's first and true user, and on top of that, it had a unicorn hair core, of which degrades itself in power when passed down to another. Ron had quite literally the worst possible wand to ever exist in the HP universe, and was still able to cast magic pretty normally

The point of molly killing bellatrix was to show that pure intention defeats big evil. Molly was fighting for her daughters life. that was what allowed her to kill bellatrix, not her power or dueling skill. She’s number one on the list bc that scene is such a crowd pleaser.

@@swish3432 I think it was more purposeful. Those expected to be able to defeat her could not. Nigel’s parents were in hospital, Sirius was killed, she was in Askaban for pity sakes. Molly mirrors Lily Potter putting herself between her child and danger. The Weasley parent’s fought for and defended their children fiercely. Yet even Ginny underage was there. They coddled her a little too much since she was a year too young but she even risked herself. They didn’t hide. Ginny even suffered that last year of Hogwarts Ron managed to escape. @@kristinesharp6286 I always thought of it as this: Bellatrix was heavily underestimating Molly. She saw a little chubby older witch and thought she couldn't be any good. She underestimated her and was just toying with her. That was the reason Molly won. This part they do show well in the movies I think, because she was laughing and throwing spells at her quite casually at first. Same reason why Sirius lost against Bellatrix(not to say sirius is stronger than Bellatrix), he should have been able to hold Bellatrix of for a while. But he just heavily underestimated his 'niece'. Molly is a great wizzard, but her winning the battle against bellatrix makes people overrate her a lot i think. Also the question remains: what is 'power'? Most talented i think: Percy, Fred, George and Bill would be better Most powerfull I think: Ron, Ginny and Bill would be better Bill I think is def the best.

While I agree with your list, I would move Ginny up higher than Fred and George at least. The books mention many times that they were terrified of her, she was particularly skilled with many types of difficult magic, and she survived the Battle at the Ministry, Battle of the Astronomy Tower, the Battle of Hogwarts, and possession by Voldemort. She was also very athletic, going into professional Quidditch playing for the Holyhead Harpies. All of those are tremendous feats.
@chrisrudolf9839
@chrisrudolf9839 2 года назад
I agree if we are specifically talking fighting skills, which was Ginny's most notable area of expertise, but magical power is more than just straight on fighting. Fred and George were very powerful enchanters, creating artefacts that left even Hermione baffled and impressed.
@LMSPetRescue
@LMSPetRescue 2 года назад
But to be fair Fred and George were more well rounded wizards. They’ve invented their own spells, potions and artifacts. Ginny may be able to out duel or out hex them, but they have a deeper understanding of how spells and potions are created and when given time they can not only improve upon long standing things, but also create brand new ones. Ginny is more of like a textbook badass were as, in my opinion, fred and George are the inventors of a new form of warfare if they put their minds to it. (Like imagine if they put all their effort that they spent on pranks into magical weaponry) But all in all I think if the weasleys made themselves an army the world would be screwed. Ron as a commander (his chess skills applied in real life), Ginny as a front line fighter, Fred and George as trap and spell makers, Percy and Arthur as the political diplomats, Bill as the curser and curse breaker, Charlie as the animal wrangler (aka riding dragons into battle), and molly as the healer and home base protector. Honestly the world would be doomed. They bred an army and failed to utilize them to their full potential

I think Ron had two defining reasons he was so low. 1. His wand, i feel like that was obvious, it was a handy me down for 2 years. 2. His place in the family. He was the youngest of all his male siblings and they all did great things and were very skilled. I feel like this gave him alot of self doubt. This is further worsened by being in Harry and Hermiones shadow. I would even say that Hermiones caused him to reject trying hard out of spite of her know it all-ness sometimes. It made sense that after growing up and maturing he became more confident and came into his abilities. No longer letting his insecurity of his siblings/ and Harrys notoriety get him down. Accepting his feelings for Hermione I think also helped, allowing him to get rid of that insinct to push her away due to possible rejection/ jealousy. I think Ginny should have been higher up on this list. She is basically the inverse of Ron. She excelled despite being the youngest, probably because she could be set apart due to her being the only girl in her family. We dont see it alot, but just based on Rons immediate instincts in book two I think we can assume the brothers are more caring and protective of her than "playful bullying" like with Ron. She also wasnt in Harrys group so she didnt have these people overshadowing her, allowing her to grow in a more healthy setting than Ron IMO.

Did Ron dirty 100%. He should 100% be in the top 3. Literally was apart of the golden trio that was the DIRECT reason the most powerful dark wizard of all time was taken down for good. Hunted/destroyed Horcruxes, dueled many death eaters and was actually fighting them at 15 years old (same with Ginny at 14, and think she shoulda been ranked higher too)

When has Ron actually done powerful magic or has had a meaningful- Intentional impact on the story save the Chess Game, Troll, and Destroying the Locket Horcrux. I am not counting the Flying Car, did not significantly change the story. Nor am I counting him Opening the CoS to destroy the Trophy Horcrux. Without Harry he wouldn't have been able to do that in the first place. Book 2- He had a connection to Ginny and thus providing motivation to go into the Chamber of Secrets. I feel like Harry would have gone down in there whether it was Ginny or not. Book 3-His whole thing in that book was he had rat that wasnt a rat Book 4-Jealous of Harry half the book. Helps Harry learn some spells with Hermione. Book 5-I fail to recall what impact he had during that book. Most I recall was him playing Quidditch as keeper rn. What did he do in the Ministry? Get attacked by brains? Book 6- Inadvertently caused Harry to get the potion book of Young Snape. Book 7- With gang- helps steal locket by acting as a husband, Locket corrupts him. Leaves. ------- Comes back and destroys locket. Gets captured by the stalkers, gets taken to Malfoys, gets broken out due to Dobby, helps breaking into Gringotts but that was mostly due to a traitor Goblin. Goes to the school, speaks parseltongue because Harry talks in his sleep? Has Hermione destroy the Trophy, what does he do for the rest of the battle. Edit: His biggest impact was probably in Book 1 with the Chess and Troll along with becoming Harry's Friend and all the things that come from it (which I am only going to count once). But besides that, I don't recall what else he did in book 1.

I really hate to be the grammar nazi, but this calls for it. Plus, I'm an English Major and your post is driving me insane with the errors. Firstly, please learn to use punctuation. Reading a sentence should be done in one breath (pausing for additional breaths at commas), and that is impossible to do with your post as one would pass out from lack of oxygen if they tried. Secondly, please learn that it is incorrect to say "always actually..." One could say: I always found it..., or I actually found it..., or perhaps even Actually, I always found it... Thirdly, while I don't remember Ron being both Quidditch player and Prefect (except while looking in the Mirror of Erised - which he was actually Head Boy in), I admit that it has been a while since I read the books so I may have simply forgotten it. Fourth, there are differences between the words there, their, and they're. There is used when referring to a location (i.e. it's over there). Their is used when referring to a possession of someone else (i.e. that bag is theirs). They're is a contraction of they are. An example of all these in one sentence is: That bag over there is theirs, but they're still shopping. Finally, I commend you on correctly spelling and using the word perfidious in a sentence, although I'm confused how you managed that with all the errors in your post.

Not to mention that he managed to perform complex magic like human transfiguration against a former Head Auror (turning Pius Thicknesse into a sea urchin) in the middle of battle while joking around. It should also be remembered that while everyone else was summoned by Neville for the Battle of Hogwarts, Percy was summoned directly by Aberforth, who had disuaded Harry, Ron, and Hermione from returning not long after. The fact that Percy thought he might've been late suggests that he had already been delayed by then, suggesting that Aberforth may have notified him not long after Harry's return. I think Percy independently had a hand in an anticipated standoff at Hogwarts outside (but coordinated with) the Order's network.

Just to toss in a few additional random factors: Percy outduels the Minister of Magic one on one, so he should be higher. I don't think we have enough information on Charlie, so he is last just due to lack of data. Arthur was chosen to lead a platoon onto the grounds of Hogwarts by Auror Kingsley Shacklebolt so he must be a combat ace. The statement about Ginny being so powerful was made by George in front of Fred and Ron, which almost sounds like they are acknowledging she is stronger than they. And Ginny was complimented by Slughorn for her excellent skills, won many duels and was an equal to Hermione and Luna during the duel with Bellatrix. Gred and Forge are recognized as extrordinary magicians by Hermione when she visits the joke shop, so clearly they are great. And poor, underappreciated Ron, among everthing else he did, is only the third wizard to penetrate the chamber of secrets this century along with Ginny and Harry, and Ginny had help while Harry was a true Parselmouth. I downgrade Bill because he got beaten by Fenrir Grayback who isn't supposed to be all that hot at magic (easily beaten by Bellatrix) but of course Fenrir could have attacked when Bill's back was turned. I go 9. Charlie, 8. Bill, 7. Percy, 6 Arthur, 5. Ron, 4. Fred, 3. George, 2. Ginny, 1. Molly. Can't argue against Mother Molly, the bane of Bellatrix LeStrange!

I agree with your list, except I'd put Charlie ahead of the twins in 3rd. We know Charlie's job is to face one of the most dangerous creatures in the HP world, and we know that Fred and George didn't dare bully or tease Charlie because of his brawn. We can also infer from Ron using Charlie's wand in years one and two that Charlie either a) didn't need a wand to do a job [having travelled a lot maybe he learned how the African wizards cast spells without a wand] or b) he'd got another wand [maybe having outgrown his wand, or needing one with more power. Which is notable, because the only time we ever see anyone change their wand is when it breaks or they upgrade, or they fear twin cores causing unseen side effects].

Hold on, you don't put the character with no data last. You just don't include them in the list Putting them last is def not how it works. Putting them anywhere assumes you have a reason for why. No data means no say, no reasoning. No data. You can't place no data low because you don't have the data that says either that it belongs there nor that another belongs higher. You place things based on data. So with no data you don't place. Placing last is what you would do if you had the data that said last is where it belongs. Not placing is what you do with no data "Napoleon was weaker than an ant because Napoleon isn't here to arm wrestle this ant" ......well...... I think "no contest" is the jargon phrase for that, otherwise non-applicable or "I don't know" would have worked............. And..... No... No, I don't think that's how that works. I think we just stick to *not* making assertions about how much arm wrestling strength Napoleon had, since we don't know how much arm wrestling strength Napoleon had. Have the ant arm wrestle people who are showed up to the competition, then tell us who won that. Don't worry about Napoleon If you have no data on Charlie, don't rank Charlie. Rank the rest

@@slipknot95maggot Jeez buddy its not that serious lmfao. And there are reasons I never said there was literally nothing to go off of, just that the info isn't as much as other characters. We still know he was an accomplished Wizard just based off of his family history, and his job. But we have never seen him duel, preform magic, or have a full list of all his accomplishments. Hence why he goes at the bottom since all the other characters have proven themselves countless times yet we haven't seen Charlie do that. That's still enough info to include him, and being last doesn't mean the weakest in his case its just that we know he is an accomplished wizard but haven't fully seen everything he can do. I'm not about to not put him on the list he is still a Weasley lol

@@hughtube5154 "Because of his brawn" - so, not his magical power, then...? The thing we were here to talk about...? And not which of the Weasley's was the most swole........? Regarding "the only time we see wizards getting new wands" - .... are you sure that applies to average witches and wizards as much as to a broke family that *needs* to pass things along between the children as they age...........? Just seems like that should factor in somewhere, at least given that we don't actually know the details and you're just assuming it somehow means something about how he was "too strong for his wand" or w/e. Dawg, who knows...? Maybe, sure. Also maybe not. Maybe since he had a job he had the money to get a new wand so he got a wand for his job and gave his brother a temp wand, rather than use what money he had to buy his young brother a brand spanking new wand leaving Charlie to go to his new job with the same crusty wand his broke parents bought him like seven years ago......? All love to the Weasley's and to broke people [as I grew up one and nearly still am], but let's not pretend like the hand-me-down family follows the same rules of wand switching as everybody else. Sure "the wand chooses the wizard" - if the wizard can afford the wand that chooses it. Maybe sometimes the broke wizard chooses the cheapest wand to not actively choose someone else. And then one day gets, like, *some* money and buys a better wand with it for work. Just because you give your little brother your wand doesn't mean you're too hot for your wand To be clear, I'm surprised to see Charlie so low. I'm not trying to take Charlie down a peg or whatever. Charlie Weasley - battles Dragons for a living 5. Fred & George Weasley - made Weasleys Wizard Weazes from scratch and even Ron said that it was amazing how they made them 6. Ron Weasley - has moments of brilliance in danger and is actually quite powerful in defence as Tonks said so while he was being attacked by death eaters 7. 1. Charlie for being able to restrain dragons 2. Fred/George for being able to create genius things at a young age 3. Percy for being able to rise up the ministry so quickly 4. Molly for the clock and killing bellatrix 5. Mr. weasely for being able to enchant the car 6. Ginny for being able to use magic so well at a young age 7. Bill or Ron. Bill is able to treasure hunt and work with goblins. Ron I feel like is much more powerful than he may seem. Let me explain. His wand in the first two books was his older brothers wand. As we all know, wands don’t work as well when someone other than the owner uses it. Then when Ron got his new wand in book 3, he still has the mindset of being bad at magic due to his mediocre skills before. Since he had that bad mind set, he performed worse. This can be backed up by several surges of confidence in Ron which leads to him producing great magic. Now I’m going to watch the video and see where this ends up.

After all it took 5 of Tom Riddle's top inner circle to kill them. If I'm not mistaken Molly was the oldest although I could be wrong but if it's true I'd say she had a hand in training them at a later point. So it's no wonders she's on the list at #1.

I think it’s funny that at first, you assume the Weasley’s aren’t very good wizards. They’re poor and you never really see anything flashy from any of them. Then, after reading more of the books/ watching more of the films, you start to realise that they’re all incredibly powerful Their magic is more lowkey. They don’t really show off too much. They’re very down to earth, and the way they use magic really reflects this. Unlike dumbledoor, they don’t go around creating fire rings. I think we’re supposed to look down on the Weasley’s. Many of the other characters do. I think we’re supposed to underestimate them, because when they do cool things, you are amazed, and then when you think about it, you’re even more amazed, because you realise that the family is actually pretty strong Ron has a borrowed wand, and then a broken wand. He is held back for few years. Then, when he gets an actual wand, he can actually do magic. Whilst seeming incompetent, he is knowledgeable, and keeps everyone getting along. Arthur enchants a car so well that it almost gains sentience. He survives being attacked by nagini, as well as other creatures. Ginny is invited to the slug club. She is described as talented, and learns magic incredibly quickly, despite looking pretty normal Fred and George create multiple spells, and are shown to be very confident with their magic. They’re good students, and very talented. Even though they act like idiots, they’re very powerful. Charlie looks after dragons… That’s not an everyday job. Only people that can control and understand dragons would be considered for that job. He’s obviously incredibly talented if he can easily control dragons. Molly kills Bellatrix, and many people comment on all the enchantments that she has put on to the burrow

I would rank Molly and Charlie lower. For Charlie, I feel like we do not have enough info. Yes, he was working with dragons, but I feel like that is not enough to be able do judge since we did not really see him in other situations. In the books he is just a sketch of a Weasley. For Molly, yes, she killed Bellatrix and was a great home-spells-master witch, but I feel like she was not as an accomplished comparing with the others on the list who had much more experience in the field. I agree with Bill and the twins and Ginny should probably be higher.

Ooh I love this idea! 1) Molly, she destroyed Bellatrix, which clearly no one has done before and Bellatrix was known to be a highly skilled and deadly dual-er. Obviously raised a brilliant family too. Bloody love Molly the most too. 2) Fred&George, powerful skilled at business and their charm work to create their products. They were fantastic problem solvers which is undervalued in wizards and witches I think. 3) Bill, curse breaker, kinda have to be pretty powerful I should think, plus he survived being attacked by a v powerful werewolf. 4)Ginny, at least in the books, she was very talented and great at spells and jinxes. Probably having so many brothers, she would have observed them and felt a need to be as strong if not stronger than them. Slug horn saw her power and wanted to collect her, I don’t like him but he clearly had a knack for seeing powerful or talented witches and wizards. 5)Charlie, we don’t know a huge amount about him but a works with dragons so... that’s got to hold some powerful weight. 6) Arthur, brilliant and compassionate but not very powerful really. Order of the Phoenix member that gives him a kind of magical power or strength or moral fibre? 7) Ron, Rowling wanted to kill him off which shows that he wasn’t v powerful. He only survived because of his friends. I loved his jokey persona but he relied on everyone else to survive. 8) Percy, he seemed to have much more slytherin qualities than the rest with a strong self-preservation and need to succeed. He didn’t seem to care who he pushed under the bus, including the rest of his family. He only finally saw sense in the second wizarding war, the rest of his family saw sense far before him.

I think the first book gave the the full measure of Ron. He defeated McGonagall's chess set and showed that he was willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good. At the same time he saw himself clearly in the family lineup. He really was the least loved son. Why shouldn't he just mess around most of the time? No amount of achievement would ever be enough, so all that was left was to enjoy life and not suffer from too much disappointment from mommy and daddy. At the same time as mentioned before able to make mature decisions about life and death that most adults can't make. Maybe not power, but real strength of character. At age 11. With only Dumbledore, Harry and Hermione really showing any real appreciation of it at the time. Sorry for the essay but that has always bothered me about how casually most dismissed Ron.

I seriously need an epilogue/ novella of the Weasleys mourning and coming to terms with Freds death. Obviously all the Weasleys, but especially George. I mean damn, who have fckn store with your deceased twins face large on the front building. Id love to see George come to terms, cope, and honor Freds passing. I think their story is so interesting, and the representation of "wild children" who are really just too smart for the school system is very relatable. I would love more stories of them, they deserve their own spotlight right next to the marauders. I mean...yeah their exit in book 5 was amazing. But in general its just a fantastic plot point that the twins really just came back to do testing on their joke shop and shit. A bigger emphases on their relationship with Harry would be awesome too. The marauder map given to harry by the twins, Harry giving his winnings to the twins. So underrated and just swept under the rug. Would love to see page time devoted to moments that focus on that. (i dont think the movies even explain where Fred and George got he money to start the business)
