If you climb up a higher dune you can get cell service if needed. If the sand condition is a mess you will not make all the way to the end in 4wd on a full tank of gas. We were out there in March when there was debris everywhere and the sand was horribly deep everwhere. We kept it in 4wd and we were down to 6mpg and we had to turn around at the 35 mile marker to make it back without running out of gas. We came out the next day and ran 2wd most of the way and only used 4wd as needed and we were able to make it to the end. We were in a expedition.

wow I have never had that issue with fuel and have been down there in deep sand. I usually go low tide when it wont be high until dark.

I’m new here - thanks for your videos. Make sure to go to a car wash and clean the engine bay and the undercarriage of your vehicle. Sand destroys everything.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate this video! This is the most informative video regarding Padre Island NS that I have ever found! I'm actually looking to visit there in November or December. From what I gather what y'all are tellin us is that I should be Ok in a RAM 2500 4x4 towing an 8k pound travel trailer. I do have tow ropes and traction boards. Thank You!!

My son-in-law and I set up his 32 ft trailer exactly here, up next to the dunes, a few weeks ago on fathers day weekend.... just before tropical storm Alberto. Sunday was beautiful with white puffy clouds, choppy but relatively normal surf. The high tide was probably 100+ feet from the dunes. Monday was exactly the same. We grilled some steaks Monday night, built a small campfire and sipped a bit of Kentucky's finest. The tide line was still about 100 feet from the dunes. We went to be about 11:30 and all was well. At 2:00 am our generator quit and the AC went off, waking us up. When we looked out the door of the trailer, the tide was coming up under the trailer with every wave that came in at least 3 - 4 inches deep. It was washing all of our outdoor gear up under the trailer, washing the sand out from under the trailer and truck wheels. We were shocked. It came up so fast. After a couple of hours getting the trailer stabilized and up on some 8' 2x10s, we waited for the sun to come up. At the crack of dawn we rescued what we could, packed it up in the truck and by 9:30 we were headed through the surf back the 3.5 miles to the pavement. The moral of this story is to always keep an eye on the weather forecast and don't overstay your welcome. The beach is like the desert. Mother nature is always waiting with a surprise. Thanks for the video. Keep up the good work.

Nice video. I'll definitely be making some trips out to surf launch soon. Won't be long before Kings start showing up.

I recommend taking a good first aid kit with a lot of hydrogen peroxide and meat tenderizer for hardheads and jellyfish stings. Great video. Very informative. I’ll probably see you down there. 👍

I enjoy your page very much. I lived on North Padre Island on a canal home in the early 90s before Packery Channel was open. I moved away for business and I'm retired now. I would love to live on the Island again, but the houses have become ultra expensive. Still, I'll probably come down to fish this summer. Thx for the info.

Texas beach bum, what are some conditions that you recommend we look for before heading down to the PINS for a surf fishing trip? Low winds, waves under 3 feet, under 2 feet ect? Also do you have venmo account ? I don't use patreon, but I would venmo. thanks for the videos.
@texasbeachbums
@texasbeachbums 2 месяца назад
the main thing is water clarity . Anything over a 5 out of 10 is best. Lower numbers bad. Fish incoming tides or outgoing. Early mornings are always best. look for the birds hitting the water. Venmo @Billy-Baumgartner-2

Pro tip.............. Air down your tires! Lower PSI gets ya better traction in the sand.
@texasbeachbums
@texasbeachbums 5 месяцев назад
I have never had to air down my tires no matter how bad the sand is. I never see any of the locals doing this. You'll make it just fine having 4-wheel drive

I always air down. You burn less fuel. Your jeep is light and has a short wheel base. That is why you can get away with not airing down.

Letting air out tires gives you better traction
@texasbeachbums
@texasbeachbums 6 месяцев назад
Understand that but nobody down here ever does it that I can see and I have never had any issue with traction. Just seems like a waste of time to me.

same here never had an issue with 2wd drive vehicle either. I have been 15 to 35mi and haven't used 4wd. I did upgrade to 4x4 last truck, but that's so I could get to the cabin in CO.
