Every time I see this last scene of the movie I feel like my heart is having a hard time beating & I can't breathe. For him to go through all of the things he went through to find her and then she dies within minutes of finding her. What I wouldn't give to be loved like that.

The ending came as a surprise, thought it was going to be a happily ever after when I first saw it years ago... wrong.. had me and the wife tearing up. I watch this once a year . Her dying was sad enough, thinking what could have been done to save her for years...when I got curious and looked up what she died of made it even more sad because there was no saving her.

I watched this back in the 90s and actually recommended this to someone only the other day. She wanted to see a sad movie. Certainly is that at the end. I always wondered why she died too because it doesn't really say to the viewer why but i read somewhere that she died in end from AIDS due to sharing infected needles/drugs. There is a scene that shows this.

+Nelly Kusuma Sad, isn't it? : ( Along with Kevin Costner's wonderful performance the movie itself allows you to imagine for things not shown but what you can imagine 'Jay' feeling or going through: Not knowing if she is still alive, hearing 'Tibi's' threat to 'Whore' her out, all the men then who were raping her, just the pain and longing of being separated from the one your heart Loves beyond all. And then, to finally find her only to have her die in your arms...Yes, one of my favorite movies and especially, favorite scenes....[''Chella~From 'The Arts & Artist Channel'']

I just ordered the Unrated Directors Cut, where there was so much deleted in the movie I saw years ago. This was when we had great actors and good movies made, not like today. So excited to be able to see it the way it was intended with all scenes. Great love story....
